Hinder's Cody Hanson Discusses Band Activity

Oklahoma rockers Hinder formed not that long ago and since has toured, written, and recorded various albums and showcases since. Drummer Cody Hanson talks of the band's current activity.

1. Can you tell me how did you guys come up with your band name?

Cody: We were sitting around trying to think of a band name and getting really frustrated and upset that we couldn't think of one, so we looked up "frustrate" in the thesaurus.  Hinder was the coolest sounding word under it.

2. What was it like to perform at the half time show in Oklahoma City?

Cody: It was a great feeling! We are very proud of our city and our team.  To be asked to perform at halftime was an honor.

3. Do you think not being from a big city like LA or NY influences your sound?

Cody: I think it did in the beginning.  We never felt the pressure to do what was "cool" on the coasts at the time.  We just got to be the band that we wanted to be.  We've always stayed true to that.

4. You received a gold certification for your 2008 album, Take It To The Limit, how does this make you feel?

Cody: It always feels good to be recognized for your accomplishments. Plus, it looks good the wall.

5. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Cody: We always try to either write from personal experience or at least touch on a subject that people can relate to.  We love hearing stories about how our music has gotten someone through a tough time in their life because they could relate to it.

6. When you performed at the half time show you had performed acoustically, will we ever be seeing an acoustic record?

Cody: Who knows what the future will hold.  I will say that doing an acoustic album has been discussed but as of right now, nothing has been set in stone.

7. What about a live CD or DVD?

Cody: Same answer as question 6 ;-)

8. Do you guys have any new music in the works?

Cody: We always have new ideas floating around. We have several songs that weren't used for the last two albums that we absolutely love.  We feel that those need to be heard at some point.  However, right now our focus is on "Welcome To The Freakshow".

9. What is your opinion on the current state of rock?

Cody: Well, right now there is no state of rock.  I don't know that rock will ever be "dead", but it's definitely in a coma.  All types of music has up and downs in natural cycles.  This seems a little worse for various reasons. One thing that I know for sure is that until rock radio will support artist that appeal to a female audience, rock won't be making a comeback anytime soon.

10. What are your thoughts on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?

Cody: At this point all bands, especially in rock, can use the exposure.

11. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Cody: As I said before, no one knows what the future will hold.  All I can say is that we plan to continue to make music for ourselves as well as our fans.  As long as we have fans that support us, we will be here to make music for them.
Thanks
