Stellar Corpses has come a long way since their debut EP "Respect The Dead" (2007), with follow-up debut full-length album "Welcome To The Nightmare" (2009) leading to another full-length sophomore album "Dead Stars Drive In" (2012). Where would all this content end up, well to where it began of course, with an EP, this one being titled "Hellbound Heart".

This EP taking in the influences and inspirations that their previous content managed to contain, except enhances it, more so that it becomes grounded yet defines who they are as a band. Not just your horror punk style, being similar to other horror based acts within the spectrum, i.e. The Misfits, Calabrese, The Other, among others, but a few modernized acts as well, AFI for instance. Where this is all coming from, is their material, both the old and the new, their context within this EP "Hellbound Heart", is well crafted, put together, and has a solid binding, to keep it together.

On such tracks like the title track opener "Hellbound Heart", which happens to feature a guest spot from a Calabrese member and brother, Jimmy Calabrese, is quite captivating, the hook and edginess, keeps that horror punk vibe pulsing. Whereas "Dark Side of the American Dream", keeps the energy consistent, as "Cruel and Unusual", maintains all of this and more, bringing forth an never ending angst of momentum, that never fails to lack in quality. In short the EP just keeps on pushing with the finishing material to which is "She'll Claw Your Eyes Out" and "In Her Lover's Arms", both of which, just wrap up the entire EP for it to be just a well rounded piece of work.

Literally Stellar Corpses "Hellbound Heart", EP release is just very fitting for this type of act, who has come a long way, not letting go of what made them whole, their style is original, vivid, and fun to experience, through this EP or their previous works, either way, they are an act not to miss, but here to stay forevermore.

Horror punk rockers Stellar Corpses have spent the last few years, playing shows on and off, while writing and recording towards what will be their next effort an EP "Hellbound Heart", set for release this spring in April, of on all days FRIDAY THE 13TH 2018! Stellar Corpse's band members Dusty Grave (vocals) and Emilio Menze (guitar) briefly both discuss the matters of the EP, and gap between our last interview that happened back in 2012, up until right here and now with the plans for 2018!


1. It's been 5 years, since we last spoke, during that chat you had released your album "Dead Stars Drive-In" as well as your single turned video for "Vampire Kiss". So what else has happened between then and now?

Dusty: Yes, it's been a while! Thanks for having us back in your world! After "Dead Stars Drive-In" we took a much needed break. We did play a few shows with The Misfits, The Damned and Tiger Army, but no real touring until the past year or so. Now we're back at it and hitting it harder than ever.

2. Since we last spoke, you went from having a line-up of all males, to adding in a female temporarily, then changed back to being an all male act, why the change of pace then change back again?

Dusty: We didn't really think of it that way, we just wanted to add a shredding lead guitarist. It was never a conscious decision to have a guy or a girl, just a good guitar player who can tour.

3. The last release for you was your album "Dead Stars Drive-In", but have a new release coming forth in the form of an EP titled "Hellbound Heart". Why go with an EP as opposed to an album?

Emilio: We wanted to take time and focus on making 5 songs as special and fleshed out as possible instead of going the route of a full length where it is much more difficult to give that same love and attention to 10 tracks or more. We want this to be what the "All Hallows" EP was to AFI.

4. Why go with a title such as "Hellbound Heart"?

Emilio: The title track "Hellbound Heart" is about falling in love with someone who is a musician or artist of any kind that is submerged in their craft and is gone a lot, traveling for work/their passion and how it can be painful. We used some imagery and ideas from the 80's horror classic Hellraiser in the lyrics as a metaphor for the dangers of giving someone in that line of work your heart.

5. Can you depict the EP's artwork, what does it represent for the album's concept, theme, and music?

Emilio: The artist Jasmine Rain is incredibly talented and a wiz with colorful yet macabre designs. She's done work for us since "Dead Stars Drive-In". We wanted something simple that would immediately catch the eye. Its short and sweet, just like the EP.

6. This EP is being released via Batcave Records, how did this all come together? That label was not the one, you were with prior was it?

Dusty: Batcave Records is a label started by me and my friend Rene from The Brains. We both moved to Los Angeles about a year ago and decided to start our own record label.

7. What do you think of band's or band's members creating or founding their own labels?

Dusty: I think it's a lot of work! Haha. But I'm proud of what we are creating and the community that is growing around it.

8. Do you prefer your own label or have an official real label or is it all the same deal really?

Dusty: So far I really like having my own label! I'm meeting a lot of musicians and creative people in the underground music world, which is super cool!

9. Throughout most of your merchandise and releases as far as music, you tend to always have your star skull mascot guy front and center or hidden as an Easter egg to find, will we ever see him coming to life on stage in a full form costume figure?

Dusty: It's funny that you say that, because I've always imagined him coming alive and being a part of our stage show, like Eddie from Iron Maiden. Maybe it will happen this year!

10. Does the star skull mascot, have a name?

Dusty: Yeah, his name is Buster!

11. What are the plans for touring and shows?

Dusty: Our next show is April 14 with John 5 from Rob Zombie. This summer we have a West Coast tour that we'll be announcing soon and June 23 we're playing with Batmobile and Gorilla at the Observatory in Orange County.

12. How about for 2018, what else do you have planned?

Dusty: We're planning on doing our second annual Monsters of Horror Rock Tour and more surprises we will announce soon!

13. Anything else you want to add on or say?

Dusty: Live fast, die young, leave a stellar corpse!

Dead stars, vampire kisses and teenage witchcraft—welcome to the twisted fantasies of STELLAR CORPSES. Often labeled "psychobilly" or "horrorpunk," this five-piece band of brothers delivers their own deadly concoction of anthemic punk, melodic metal, and gothic rockabilly. STELLAR CORPSES have toured the world with bands like The Misfits, Tiger Army, The Damned, and others.

STELLAR CORPSES attribute their look, sound and attitude to growing up in Santa Cruz, California, a small town with a dark past.  From being Brian Wilson’s "Surf City" in 1963 to being deemed "Murderville, USA" just a few years later, like its famous Giant Dipper roller coaster, Santa Cruz has seen its ups-and-downs.  Subsequently, in 1987, the troubled town was cast in a horror movie and renamed “Santa Carla,” for its befitting role as the filming location and hometown of Keifer Sutherland and his gang of motorcycle riding, punk rock vampires, who fed on teens and tourists at the boardwalk in the 1987 vampire cult classic, "The Lost Boys".  From this influence, STELLAR CORPSES was born, and Santa Cruz’s fluctuation between the light and the dark has served as an allegory for the band’s personal and collective journey.

Want a fact about STELLAR CORPSES? The lead singer Dusty co-founded Batcave Records with Rene D La Muerte from The Brains, another band on the Atomic Music Group roster. The record label is home for Stellar Corpses and The Brains as well as some very talented up-and-coming bands from all over the world.

Stellar Corpses Santa Cruz, Californian locals are horror punks of our day and age and have just recently released their all new album "Dead Stars Drive-In". To celebrate this latest achievement the band has departed on a tour of promotional dates getting the word out as much as possible. With that said the first single and video for the song "Vampire Kiss" caught the craze of what these guys are capable of and the rest is history….


1. Why the name Stellar Corpses I didn't think corpses were stellar being's I thought they were the undead?

Stellar Corpse is an astronomy term that means "dead star." A black hole and a super nova are stars that have died.

2. Congrats on the release of your second album "Dead Stars Drive-In" do you think now you can take a sigh of relief that it's done and now out?

Yes, we're very happy that our monster-piece is finally out! But now the real work begins, touring! We're just starting a two month tour in the US including 5 shows on the East Coast with Marky Ramone and Michale Graves.

3. So you had a few special guest appearances on this new album of yours mind telling us about who they were and why did you want them to be a part of it?

Hunter Burgan (AFI) was kind enough to do some backup vocals on three songs and he appears in our music video for Vampire Kiss too. Jade (AFI) did some sound design on Be Still My Heart and Michale Graves (Misfits) did guest vocals on Twisted Fantasy. We are big fans of AFI and Michale Graves, so we were thrilled to have them be a part of this project.

4. What about the video for the song "Vampire Kiss" tell me about that what was the concept behind it?


Both song and video pays tribute to the best vampire movie in the world The Lost Boys. The video itself was filmed in our hometown Santa Cruz, California.

5. Dead Stars Drive-In why did you want to go and call the album that? Are there really dead stars at the drive in?

As I mentioned before, Stellar Corpses refers to stars that have died. Not only black holes and super nova’s, but also movie stars and rock stars. Some of our favorites are Elvis, Marilyn, Bela Lugosi, and Vampira, all of whom are referenced in the title track Dead Stars Drive-In. The drive-in part comes from our local drive-in movie theater that got torn down. We're paying tribute to the ones that are gone but will live on forever in our lives and memories.

6. It’s been three years since your last release why such a wide gap between albums?

We spent a long time writing the songs and saving up for the recording. We are our own record label. We also tour a lot. We could put out an album every year, but the quality wouldn't be as good and we only want to give our fans the best.

7. I noticed that your good friends with Calabrese have you ever considered doing a full tour with those guys?

Sure! We would love to tour with our good friends.

8. Do you remember the day that you got signed to Santa Carla Records? What was running through your mind?

It's actually just our own record label, we just made the name as a reference to the Lost Boys... they changed the name of our city from Santa Cruz to Santa Carla for the film.

9. Valentine's Day is coming up how would Stellar Corpses celebrate it?

We'll celebrate love of course! Everyone we love, have loved and will love. Emilio's birthday is on Feb 16th and we're taking a day off in Las Vegas to party!

10. Which member has their way with the ladies?

We all do, but sometimes the ladies have their way with us.

11. Describe the person next to you using one word.

Heartbreaker.

12. Have you ever done an interview where you ended up killing the interviewer after the camera got turned off?

We could tell you but then we'd have to kill you.

13. What makes you guys special and why should we check you guys out?

You will never in your life see such talented, smart and handsome young men share the stage for the sole purpose of entertaining you!
