Australia's extreme metal titans Thy Art Is Murder have released their storming new single, "Keres," the second taste of new music lifted from the band's forthcoming album, Godlike, out September 15th 2023 via Human Warfare.

A stadium-sized death metal anthem, "Keres" has it all: bone crushing verses, colossal stomping choruses, an urgent guitar solo, and frontman CJ McMahon's vocals demolishing all in his wake as he rams that hook straight into your brain.

"Keres" is an absolute standout in the Thy Art Is Murder collection and guitarist Andy Marsh explains why the band can't wait to get it out there.

"It's not often we have this level of excitement to present a new single to the world," Marsh states. "'Keres' is a metal anthem filled with grinding verses and stomping choruses, stripping down some of the complexity that may have gotten in the way of previous attempts to deliver a song of this magnitude. The Keres was an evil sprite in ancient Greek mythology that would feed on the dead, but could not participate in acts of violence. We think this behavior is as relevant in the arena of news and politics as it was on those ancient battlefields."

Australia's extreme metal titans Thy Art Is Murder have announced their long-awaited new album, Godlike, arriving September 15. Godlike marks Thy Art Is Murder's first 100% independently released record, out worldwide via their own label Human Warfare.

The band has also shared the devastating new single, "Join Me In Armageddon."

Opening with a foreboding riff that feels like you're being marched into the arms of evil, heed the warning of Thy Art when they advise to "dress warm for nuclear winter."

"'Join Me In Armageddon' is a song that started off with one idea, self destruction," says guitarist Andy Marsh. "I suppose throughout this record, we have ended up touching on a lot of themes that came to the fore these last few years, for us, and maybe you, as well. Loss, distance, doubt, pressure, and tension have made their way through our lives and now are intertwined and immortalized in this record — Godlike."

Australians Thy Art Is Murder is a deathcore act with four albums down, lots of shows and touring done with so much more in-store there is no stopping them! Drummer Lee Stanton one of two of the original founding members of the band, discusses the band's formation, name, newest album and their future.

1. Introductions, who are you, and what is it that you do in the band for those who may not know it?

Hi, my names Lee and I play drums in Thy Art Is Murder.

2. Can you tell me the story as to how the band got its name Thy Art Is Murder and what does this mean actually mean? Does it relate to art in any which way?

Sean and I are the original two founding members and even we don't know how we got the name. An older member thought it sounded cool and Shakespearean so we just went with it.

3. Your frontman vocalist CJ McMahon said bye bye a while back, but is now saying hello hello, so what happened between then and now?

He took some time off I guess and spent it at home cleaning his life up and focusing on himself and his problems. When he left we were sure he would never return but in the time off he really got better.

4. CJ McMahon went on to say this about the album "This new record is going to shape our future; we gave it everything we could and then some. In the past, I was the weakest link and now that I have re-built myself, we are stronger than ever and nothing can stand in our way." So elaborate this for us?

I think he is just trying to explain to the world that he had some issues and that is why he had to go away. We have always worked really hard on the road and on our music and maybe he feels he was always self-sabotaging those efforts. Who knows. The new record is pretty rad though. Speaking of the new album it is called "Dear Desolation", with a title such as this does this mean that this album is indeed a letter of sorts or nothing like that whatsoever? It kind of is and that's why we are giving away "Dear Desolation" postcards with our pre-orders at Indie merch. The album covers all sorts of things that could finish the human race, it’s almost like a letter to our future selves but we need to take action now.

5. This album is also your fourth album to date, what comes to mind when thinking such a thing, looking back to when you first formed way back in 2006 up until this point and time in 2017?

We are just so lucky to be able to make music and tour the world and have people enjoy it. At the end of the day this is something we all dreamed of and we are so grateful to our fans and the people we work with.

6. You guys got signed with Nuclear Blast back in 2012 up until the present day today in 2017, so how has the relationship been with them after all this time?

It’s amazing, everyone that we’ve met there or chat to is a total legend and totally loves metal, to work with people that actually love your music too helps you feel like you’re in great hands.

7. While you guys have a handful of releases to your namesake, when can we expect to see a live release in the form of an album or DVD, have anything in the works?

Let’s just say its coming. We have been documenting most of our tours with our ‘sixth member’ Thomas for a few years now, hopefully we will be able to pull together a story worth sharing with everyone.

8. What about playing any of your releases past or present in full from front to back, or from back to front, is that something you would consider doing?

It has been talked about but no locked in plans just yet. We haven’t ever had the chance to play one of our records front to back but we would really like to present the albums that way in a live setting.

9. You guys will be out on the road between now into the rest of this year, so what do you have planned as far as setlists and performances, anything extra special?

We are working on that this week actually, but a good blend of some of the new stuff and bringing in some more stuff from ‘Hate’ and ‘Holy War’. We are probably going to be bringing ‘No Absolution’ and ‘They Will Know Another’ into the fold this year as well.

10. How about the rest of the year, what else can we expect to see from you guys?

Not a lot outside of touring our asses off and releasing some new music, hopefully everyone enjoys it!

Thy Art Is Murder has split ways with vocalist CJ McMahon. The singer posted his reasons via his Facebook page saying "With a mix of both negative and positive emotions, I inform you all that I have parted ways with my band Thy Art Is Murder. It has been a wild ride I have traveled to over 40 countries around the world and played alongside some of the worlds biggest and best bands, it brings me great sadness knowing I will never perform again for my amazing and supportive fans, this will be the hardest thing for me to deal with. My reasons for leaving: I spend too much time away from my fiancé , family and friends, touring has taken a massive mental, emotional and physical toll on me. One of the biggest reasons is money, I / we have been broke for years and being 32 years old I can't live like this anymore. I am getting married next year and plan on having a family, these things cost money, to put the finances into perspective for you I /we have earned between $16k-$18k each over 6-7 years, I feel there is something massively wrong with this, I will not live like this anymore. I'm sorry to my fans that I have to go, I have loved you all and I thank you for believing in me supporting me. The money made from my closing down sale of my clothing label will be going to my wedding, I will also be selling my Northface stage jacket I have worn the last two years on stage via eBay soon to try to pay for my wedding for the people interested, again thank you for the love and support, Your Prince Of Darkness Cj."

The rest of the band released a statement on the Thy Art Is Murder Facebook page saying,

"After much conjecture and ambiguity on his behalf, it is with a heavy heart that we must announce today that CJ is no longer a part of THY ART IS MURDER. We have worked so hard from day one to make this band what it is now and develop the reputation that we have and he had been there with us every step of the way. We like to think that even if someone doesn't like our music that they can at least respect our work ethic.

This band has taken us to places we never thought we would see and to share stages with many bands we never thought we would get to play with or meet, let alone call friends. It is unfortunate that with our best year to date and our biggest paved out before us that he has decided to leave.

All this being said, touring as hard as we do does take its toll on you physically, but, more importantly, mentally and emotionally. We are an underground metal band and have been so fortunate over the last two years to carve out a small income thanks to so many dedicated and generous fans around the world. For some people, it comes to a turning point in their life where that income is no longer enough for their personal goals, and that point has come for CJ.

We would like to wish him all our best as he leaves the band and moves onward to start a family and new life with his loving fiancée. The four of us are continuing forward into 2016 for some of the biggest and best tours of our lives. We won't be slowing down or missing any shows. We head back out next month with PARKWAY DRIVE and ARCHITECTS throughout Europe and the U.K. and will be taking one of our favorite vocalists with us, Nick Arthur from MOLOTOV SOLUTION.

THY ART is what we have done with all of our adult lives and we have put absolutely everything we have into the band and the friendship between the four of us. That friendship and drive to create extreme music is what has kept us together through thick and thin. Unfortunately, not everyone can share this fire."
