Poland's black death metal mavericks of DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS are wrapping up the year with the recent release of two live videos to the tracks "Eosphoros" and "The Dove and the Serpent" respectively, both taken from their latest "The I", full-length album (Lifeforce Records, 2017). Shot during the group’s headlining appearance at this year’s Metal Head's Mission / Black Sea Storm Festival the videos show the band perform in a refreshed line-up that features both new guitarist and new drummer. Comments the band’s founder, lead guitarist and vocalist Quazarre: "Ladies and gents, as some of you know, we've got fresh blood on-board for some time now. Please welcome Jakub 'Isemal' Bogatko as the band's second guitarist and Adam 'Avernatvs' Niekrasz taking over the drum throne. A new chapter has began...".


DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS will headline Dark Winter Meeting Festival set to take place in Malta on the 26th of Jan 2019 with more shows to be announced in due course.

Hailing from Poland, the epic black / death metallers of DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS will release their new album,  “The I” on September 22nd, 2017 via Lifeforce Records. The album will be available as CD digipak, limited vinyl LP and digital download.

Recorded at various studios, including Dobra12 (drums) and Icaros Studio (guitars) the disc was mixed and mastered at Impressive Art Studio by Przemyslaw Nowak who also handled vocals recording sessions and guitars’ re-amping. The album’s artwork, design and layout were created by Infected Minds.

The album features special guest appearances by MERCYFUL FATE / KING DIAMOND’s guitarist Mike Wead and by Norway’s dark metal masters AETERNUS’ vocalist / guitarist Ares. Other artists who also contributed to the record are shamanic ritual meditative experimental act BÖN and Impressive Art Studio’s owner PRZEMYSLAW NOWAK who came up with interludes, additional background tunes and effects.

“It’s been a really long way to be finally able to wrap it all up, countless nights spent on writing the music and lyrics first, then working on the album’s pre-production, followed by what seemed to be never-ending, proper recording sessions, and tones of work that had to be done for the band afterwards. We really wanted this new album to become something really special and therefore, to avoid any haphazard decisions, we let them come out of us smoothly, without putting ourselves under any external tension and stuff. Did it pay off? Well, we’ll see… We surely worked our asses off, pushed things back and forth to get the best out of it. As a result we’ve got something we are damn proud of, something that we believe surpasses on all possible levels everything we’ve done in the past. I simply believe we’d outdone ourselves and recorded something that will cause your hearts beat faster…” – comments Quazarre, the band’s composer, vocalist and guitarist.

The title chosen, “The I”, for the record is not only a phonetic acronym of the band’s name, but above all it reflects the manifesto they stand for since the Horde’s inception in the year 2000 – the notion of freedom of choice and will. A supremacy of an individual over any external factors being imposed on us by others, with special emphasis on religion and its convictions, dogmas and paradigms. “The I” is a rebellious manifesto targeted against all those who stand opposed to anything that drives us towards individual perfection.

Formed in the year 2000 as a studio project and then as a regular live-band six years later, DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS from Poland is a dominant Black Death metal band that’s quickly pummeling through the genre and making their way to fans and media around the globe.

After already having released their 2012 third studio album “Simulacra” with Lifeforce Records we are very happy to welcome back DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS to the Lifeforce Records roster for the release of their new album “The I”, which is set to come out in late September.

Hailing from Poland, the seasoned black / death metallers of DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS have recently finished Chinese and Taiwanese tour supporting their latest releases “Adventvs” (Hammerheart Recs) & “Simulacra” (Lifeforce Records – EU/North America; Mort Productions – China; MSR Productions – Russia, CIS; Icaros Records - Poland). The trek lasted for nearly a month and is believed to be the most extensive tour any foreign metal band had ever played there.

“Back home from the ‘Adventvs Regis China & Taiwan 2016 Tour’. Way over 10,000km, not to count all the flights Warsaw-Helsinki-Shanghai-Taipei and back of course... It seriously was a hell of a ride! We would like to thank each and everyone involved in making the tour happen as well as those who helped it run smoothly: Chen and all at Mort Productions for bringing us over to China, our tour manager Kui aka "Super-Nanny" for taking great care of the band while on and off the road, Kassandra of Inferno for hospitality during our days off in Shanghai, Eric Lee, Ronnie and everyone behind the Taiwanese dates. Poland’s black / death metal rebels DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS launch the official live video for the song Adventvs Regis taken from their MLP Adventvs, released last year by Hammerheart Records.

Meanwhile the band’s putting final touches to their new, 4th studio record. We're now listening and implementing small changes to the last of the songs and, believe me, we're as excited as if it was our first studio-experience ever! Sounds huuuge !!! What's left? Well, several things, including sth to put it all into one monolithic monster... Beware! - comments the band’s composer, guitarist and vocalist, Quazarre. The title, tracklist and cover art for DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS new album are yet to be revealed while the record itself is said to be their most intriguing, darkest and heaviest offering to date.

In February 2015 Hammerheart Records will add some freezing coldness to the Winter! We are extremely proud, and others will be extremely jealous, to release an extremely limited 12” Mini-LP by Polish black/death crushers Devilish Impressions called 'Adventvs'!

Formed in 2000 Devilish Impressions has become a Lethal machine of majestic supremacy when it comes to mixing Death and Black Metal.

 With their 2012 album 'Simulacra' they should have deserved a spot among the great names as Behemoth and Septic Flesh, and the two new tracks could best be described as a thunderbolt-mixture of just those names… without giving in an inch to their own uniqueness and quality!

Recorded at Studio Hertz and Sound Division Studio those two tracks (clocking still close to twenty minutes) need to be heard, they are among the best ever done in this style, and this EP will become an object of Cult status.

The fitting and crushing artwork is done by Upgrade Studio... it will cause some eyebrow lifting!

Blackened death metallers Devilish Impressions went and released an EP and are in the process of following up to that release with further plans also in the works. Frontman vocalist, rhythm, lead and acoustic guitar, composer, author of the lyrics, production and everything else Quazarre discussed briefly about this release and the future.


1. Why did you want to take the demo release "Eritis Sicut Deus" and re-record it for the "Adventvs" EP? Why not just re-release the demo as a new EP release and not include it on this EP?

Quazarre: Actually, “Eritis sicvt Devs” has not been re-recorded, it’s been digitally re-mastered only. The idea of releasing it along with the new tracks was to make it more attractive to fans, so that when buying an EP they simply get lot more music, over an hour rather than 20 minutes only. That way, they can also check out what we do presently and compare it to what we have been doing back in the day. Besides, I think we more than owed that to all those who have been loyal to us throughout the years, especially because the demo songs have never been published before and thus very few had a chance to give it a spin.

2. How does this "Adventvs" EP different from your last full-length release "Simulacra"?

Quazarre: A number of things have changed in comparison not only with “Simulacra” but also with Devilish Impressions’ earlier works. First of all, when listening to “Adventvs” you easily notice a different approach to issues related to the production process. This time, instead of making it sound like “in-your-face” sort of thing, we've focused on making it wider, deeper and less compressed. More like the middle 90's productions. You know, acoustic, natural sound of drums, lot of reverb on toms and a snare drum – this kind of things. Due to the use of 7-strings guitars during the tracking our music has also turned way heavier than it ever was. Furthermore, for the first time ever you can hear other vocalist backing me up, as Vraath (the band’s bassist) took over the growling parts. Also, for the first time ever I decided to sing in Polish, and although it’s just several phrases here and there never have I done something like that before. So, in a way, the new tunes indicate a re-defined sonic direction we will be heading to on our next full-length. Well, maybe not exactly, as we always try to keep some aces up our sleeves when it comes to the follow-ups… Moreover, we did not merely want to bring about more diversity only for the sake of making it different from the past records. It has come out this way naturally, most likely as an inner need to explore fields we did not touch before... So, let’s say it indicates something’s about to change.

3. Through all of your releases you've released 1 demo, 1 EP, and 3 full-length albums, why did you see releasing full-length after full-length to be the right choice as opposed to releasing an EP, full-length, an EP, full-length sort of thing.

Quazarre: It’s been sort of a natural choice for us, regulated by contracts’ conditions and so on… Besides, I don’t see a point of releasing an EP after the first album for instance. Seeing our debut “Plurima Mortis Imago” suffered from different fuck-ups made during its production, we've been lucky enough to be able to work on a sophomore record right after. And I’m really happy we have had an opportunity to do so, because it certainly needed much stronger follow-up in order to constitute our capability of doing greater things not within two or three songs only.

4. Do you have any new music in the works for the next full-length or plan to release another EP or is neither on your plate right now?

Quazarre: Several issues have to be solved before we give it a go, other than that we’re ready to hit the studio. I’m nearly done with the new album’s pre-production so I guess we’re to begin a recording process anytime soon.

5. Would you ever consider releasing any of your music in acoustic format except do it acoustically with the growling/screaming vocal chords not clean vocal chords?

Quazarre: Never actually thought of that but I don’t think it would work for us, honestly… Seeing way over ninety percent of Devilish Impressions’ music is actually based on heavy guitar riffs with distortion being sort of their prime mover, taking it off them would probably deprive them of their intensity. It’s like with the top carnivores… What if you’d pull their teeth out? After all, would you still call them predators? Would you be afraid of snakebite if the snake had not been venomous? See my point? I believe the parallels here are quite obvious, hahaha.

6. Your lyrical theme of choice is Satanism, Anti-Christianity, do you use this theme for every release or is it featured on a few songs and the rest are based on other topics?

Quazarre: Well, believe me that having been raised in a country where the Catholic Church dominates practically all areas of life had a significant influence on our perception of the world around us… You know, you've got these priests constantly telling you what to do, telling you what’s good, what’s wrong, fucking inquisitors who’d do basically everything to hoodwink the society by imposing guiltiness on people, persuading them such an absurd as that we are being born stigmatized with original sin, and this kind of bullshit. At the same time most of them don’t actually live according to their beliefs and commandments. Quite the contrary, giving a closer look to the Church’s history or its recent activities make it very clear just how little it values human rights, especially rights of the disobedient ones… I mean, who in their right mind would trust in words coming out of a mouth of a sleazy hypocrite, murderer or a pedophile? Therefore we have been anti-christian and anti-religious from at Devilish Impressions’ day one. And thus we spread such message on each and every record we put out under this name. It doesn't mean though that we’ll be repeating ourselves over and over again. I mean, the attitudes and the spirit of the band remain the same, not that we are to bring up some shitty subject matter instead; it’s just that sometimes we focus also on different issues. As long as we consider them subjects exceptionally relevant to our way of thinking, relevant to our complex worldview that corresponds to reality in the world we were born and the world we live in.

7. Has Devilish Impressions ever played in the U.S.A. or plan to do so in the future?

Quazarre: We’d truly love to yet at the time it’s pretty difficult to say when this would happen. It costs a fortune to make it to the US for a European band due to expensive flight tickets, working visas and so on. Obviously, if there’s anyone willing to bring the band to the shores of America feel free to get in touch either with us or our booking agency (all contacts at our webpage and social platforms).

8. What are your plans for the rest of this year?

Quazarre: Recording of the new album is definitely one of our priorities but we find it equally essential to promote “Adventvs” EP the best we can, especially as the new tracks point the direction we are heading to, in a way they can be considered sort of a pre-taste of what is to come.

9. Anything else you'd like say or would like to add?

Quazarre: Well, let me conclude this interview by quoting something… Although it’s quite easy to guess where it comes from, one may finally find what “Eritis sicvt Devs” stands for. The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” “You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” I bet you've found the line I was talking about? ;-) Hail Natalie and all of the North America’s Devils!!!!

Black metal was one of the metal genres that struck little to no interest to me only having very few acts interest me i.e. Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, Belphegor, Dark Funeral, Mayhem, Immortal, Ceremonial Castings, and Devilish Impressions. Devilish Impressions being one of the latest additions to my black metal agenda and liking list, with their last full-length " Simulacra" and latest addition the "Adventvs" EP.

The EP composes of two new tracks and their 2002 demo “Eritis Sicut Deus”. Totaling 5-tracks of a lengthy runtime of 62 minutes giving you an experience that is highly entertaining.  The instrumentals performed here are extensive with explosive drum beats, catchy guitar riffs and solo pieces, with even catchier bass lines with such upbeat vocals, it makes it to be a well rounded set of tracks, that doesn't get out of your mind let alone headspace.


Devilish Impressions "Adventvs" EP is an experience that as said highly entertaining offering the listener an easy going headbanging exposure to the black metal genre in a whole new fashionable way.

Black, death metallers, Devilish Impressions have been hard at work writing and recording all new material for their upcoming new album due out soon. Vocalist and guitarist Quazarre and bassist Vraath talks to me about their band, song writing styles and recent signing to Lifeforce Records.

1. What type of band are you?

V. DEVILISH IMPRESSIONS is a band continuously searching and experimenting, a band never afraid to break the mold and go a step further. We used to be called avant-garde blackened death metal, which was pretty nice as I never found another band called this way. We play extreme music and I guess words such as black/death metal will always be correct if someone wants to label our music.
     
2. So why the name Devil Impressions what does this symbolize for you and the
band?

Q. It symbolizes the way the world’s changing… As well as the way we are and will always be changing… When forming the band I knew we’ve got to find a name that would give listeners a hint on what’s more or less our music and lyrics are like. At the same time I wanted to label it with words suggesting it can’t be associated with black metal only… Words that would offer something different…

3. Tell us the brief history of your band.

V. The official date of Devilish Impressions’ birthday is November 2000. D.I. started as a three piece. Within 12 years of existence the band faced several personal changes so the founding singer/guitarist Quazarre is the only member of the original line-up. Albums “Plurima Mortis Imago” and “Diabolicanos” were supported by intensive touring alongside the biggest names in metal world. “Simulacra” is the third full length album and opens the new chapter in band’s history. 4. What are your songs about? What specific themes do they cover?

V. This would be the question for Quazarre who wrote the lyrics but I can tell you he doesn’t like to explain them. They are opened for interpretation and any one can do it differently. I can only say that as the title of the album indicates the lyrics cover duality of things, not everything is always what it seems to be.

5. Do you write your own songs? Can you discuss the songwriting process in detail.

V. Of course we do! The music is composed by Quazarre, who always was responsible for writing most of the band’s songs. He brings the tracks yet he is opened for other band members’ suggestions and ideas. The rest of us band have freedom in arranging our parts (drums, bass).

6. Who are your musical influences?

Q. Well, I wouldn’t say there are bands we take direct inspiration from but there are so many we appreciate that it would be hard to point them all. I, for example, started my musical journey long time ago with Metallica, Kreator, Sodom, Death… After that it just went  on and on, during the passing years I got to know dozen hundreds of excellent bands and… eventually landed on the same stage with some of them afterwards.

7. You signed a deal with Lifeforce Records what set them a from all of the
other record labels? What do you think they will bring to Devil Impressions?

V. We had talks with several record labels and chose Lifeforce simply because their
offer was the best for us. Stefan - the Lifeforce main man seems to be a real professional guy and his attitude and faith towards the band make us believe that together we can do a lot of noise around Devilish Impressions.

8. Tell me about your latest release "Simulacra" what go with a title like that what does it represent and is this a concept release?

Q. “Simulacra” reflects duality of things, religions, symbols… It should open the mind of someone who’d even accidentally bumped onto it, show him nothing’s as clear as it seems to be… No, it’s not a concept release, but there definitely is a general idea behind both music and lyrics. When thinking of words just imagine they may all be taken other way round… It’s all about how we’d name particular phenomenon… What gives us a right to say something’s good, while in fact it could be real evil?… Why people tend to think the morals and ethic someone worked out long time ago shall be the only acceptable and respectable now or in the years to come?… As mentioned earlier, the world’s changing… People are changing, and all these changes are irreversible…

9. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album? How does it compare to previous Devil Impressions releases?

Q. “Simulacra” is definitely the most epic one we’ve done so far. When trying to describe what’s going on within the album we’ve come up with the following: MUSIC for the EXTREME experiMENTAL generation ONLY. It clearly indicates whom our music is addressed to yet by the word ‘experiMENTAL’ it also shows there’s much more into it. We’ve always had songs with lots of melodies, but this one goes even further. Obviously, it’s not all-the-fucking-time-long melodies only First of all, there are massive, sometimes very heavy riffs used as each song’s solid base, so all the melodies were built upon it, not other way round. If we’d release the album with all of the orchestrations and additional effects removed, you’d definitely get it way more brutal. But the thing is – we didn’t want to! There are hundreds of groups around that were, are and will always be hell lot more extreme than we are, so we’re aiming into different directions…

10. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the
recording process began for this album?

V. We wanted to make a great album for both us and the fans, a masterpiece- nothing less. It was supposed to be the stand out album, music wise, with great production and graphics.  It was especially important as the band was absent for 4 years. We wanted our “comeback album” to be possible the best. I think we achieved this goal. It took us some time to finalize all aspects but it  was definitely worth waiting.

11. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording
process before?

V. If you compare “Simulacra” to previous albums you will hear a lot more orchestrations. We’ve always been using keyboards but this time we took it to a new level. We had two people working on “electronic” parts for this album and they did amazing job. Using such intensive effects added another dimension to our music.

12. When did you start writing for this album? How was the songwriting process
different/similar to previous Devil Impressions albums?

Q. I’d started sometimes in the middle of 2009. It was rather similar to the way I’ve worked on the previous albums. This means, I compose the songs, lay down the guitars’ tracks and such version present to the others in DI as the album’s pre-production version. I then write lyrics, think of additional guitars, synthesizers, vocals and so on, while Icanraz and Vraath work on their parts. Once ready with that we meet on rehearsals, play it together, introduce changes and collectively work on further arrangements.

13. Did you feel any pressure for a follow-up?

V. I don’t think we did. We are in very comfortable situation as we don’t  have to fulfill anybody’s expectations.  Of course it is very important to us that people appreciate our music but even more important is making us happy as creators of this music.


14. What is the music scene like in Poland? Are there any band's you'd like to
recommend?

V. I’d say that polish scene is stronger than ever. There are so many great bands that it is difficult to name just a few. I think that nowadays Poland is like Sweden in the 90’s. It is a cradle of good metal music recognized and respected all over the world.

16. What are your upcoming tour plans and plans for this year in general?

V. We have been confirmed for a number of 2012 summer open-air festivals and once the summer is finished we shall start booking regular tours. We really can’t wait to hit the road.

17. Anything else you'd like to say or add?

Q. Well, thanks a lot for your support! Watch out for “Simulacra” and let it blow your mind away…

Polish blackened death metal act Devilish Impressions is welcomed to the Lifeforce Records to the family. The bands Lifeforce Records debut and third album "Simulacra" will be released July 30th in Europe and July 31st in North America.

"We're very pleased to land this record deal with Lifeforce Records. From all the offers we've got this one seems to be our best option at this point of the band's career and we truly believe working with them will push us up a huuuge step forward. What impressed us the most was Stefan's, the label's driving force, work ethic and attitude towards Devilish Impressions music. His seriousness and passion about the band let us believe this was the best choice we've made. Despite having only two albums under their belt Devilish Impressions quickly managed to put their name out there. Critically acclaimed records and intense touring along with some of the biggest names onto the metal scene made them one of the most promising acts on the European map of extreme music. After a row of personal problems that eventually caused several line-up changes and temporary stage absence, the band strikes back with the brand new opus called "Simulacra" and is now ready to take the scene by storm again.

"Simulacra" is the 3rd full-length by Devilish Impressions, considered as one of Poland's leading and most innovative modern black/death metal acts. Wrapped in breath-taking artwork created by Xaay (Nile, Kamelot, Necrophagist) the album also features guest appearances of Orion (Behemoth, Vesania), Jacek Grecki (Lost Soul) and Roman Berežnicki (Lecter) as well as session synth/samples/fx appearance by Flumen (Asgaard) and Lestath (Metransmissional).
