Death metal legends Blood Red Throne, has been around for some time, during which, they have released several albums, under their namesake, including "Union of Flesh and Machine". A latest addition as it's just like their previous releases, still groovy, aggressive, and in your face, death metal. The style these guys have been known for, well forever. The lyrical context, and instrumental work, is fast paced, filled with energy, and pulsing adrenaline, that never lets up. Such songs as "Leather Rebel", "Legacy of Greed", and "Revocation of Humankind", are just the tip of the death metal cake, that makes this release, so mind blowing and great. It's filled with that fast paced energy and pulsing adrenaline, but they maintain so much more, just a lot of pride and overwhelming sensations that makes the music bounce. Like, stand out a lot more, making it be very memorable to Cannibal Corpse or even Deicide at times. Having listened to Blood Red Throne for years now, this release, shall not disappoint the fans who have been there, and the new comers, just being engulfed, it's death metal style that is for everybody to say the least.

Candlelight Records is pleased to announce the signing of Blood Red Throne

Daniel “Død” Olaisen started his musical career in the legendary Norwegian black metal band Satyricon in 1996 at just 19 years of age when he joined as a live guitarist. Since 1993 Død had been writing death metal riffs and in 1998 he started working on material for his own death metal band and with his friend Tchort (Emperor, Carpathian Forest), who also played bass in Satyricon, Blood Red Throne was officially a born.

Shortly after, the young and talented bass player Erlend Caspersen was found and the search for a drummer and singer could start! After a while BRT got in touch with Freddy Bolsø; he was just the drummer they were looking for and the band could now begin rehearsing material.

A demo was soon recorded with Ronnie Thorsen from Trail of Tears on vocals which became ‘Deathmix 2000’. A deal with Hammerheart Records was then signed.

A debut album had to be recorded, but they still hadn't found a permanent singer. Just three weeks before entering studio, BRT asked long-time friend, Mr.Hustler to join the band, despite never having played in a band or done vocals ever before. But ‘Monument of Death’ became a fuckin' killer debut album, released in 2001! The limited edition included a package called 'The Suicide Kit', which not only contained the actual album, but also a printed razor blade and a poster. The kits were hand numbered in the band member's own blood!

Espen "Beist" Antonsen (The Sickening) replaced Freddy Bolsø on drums and the band recorded ‘Affiliated With The Suffering’ in 2002, playing a host of European festivals with it. Nothing lasts forever and Beist left the band when BRT were about to record their first album on Earache Records. With help from Bernt Moen they managed to record their darkest and most intense album, ‘Altered Genesis’, released in 2005. Soon after Vald replaced Mr. Hustler on vocals and Anders Haave became the new permanent drummer in time for a new European tour and the recording of fourth album, ‘Come Death’.

After more touring 2008 was devoted to the writing and recording of fifth album ‘Souls Of Damnation’. After this release, Tchort decided to have a break to focus on his family and work. Nevertheless, the band went out on their first headliner European Tour in October 2009 with Hate. Soon after the tour, Anders decided to leave the band and he was replaced by Swedish wonder boy, Emil Wiksten. Ivan "Meathook" Gujic also joined in 2010, at first as a session guitar player while Tchort still had his break, and within a year BRT went on tour with Dimmu Borgir and Enslaved across the states and Canada.

In 2011 new album ‘Brutalitarian Regime’ was released on US label Sevared Records. Unfortunately, Erlend Caspersen and Vald decided to leave BRT in October 2011. They were replaced by Ole Bent Madsen on bass guitar and Bolt on vocals in December of that year and the new line-up went back to Europe and toured with Suffocation in March 2012.

May 2013, marked Blood Red Throne’s 15th anniversary and seventh studio album, simply entitled ‘Blood Red Throne’ which was played on their headline European Tour in May/June that summer.

After playing this summer’s Bloodstock Open Air with great bands such as Down, Hellyeah, Megadeth and Emperor, Blood Red Throne signed to Candlelight Records. In December 2014 the band is going on their first headline tour of South America with a new album planned soon.

Blood Red Throne is the death metal sense that has hit the metal community heavy and hard. Over the course of their careers they have released album after album and are now on their seventh album to date that they decided to self-titled. Guitarist, song writer, founder, and only original member left in the band Daniel Olaisen or Død took the time to discuss the band's latest efforts since our last chat with the band back in 2009.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Blood Red Throne, and how long the band has been together.

Død: Cheers. This is Død. Guitarist, songwriter, founder and only original member left in Blood Red Throne. I started BRT back in 1998 and we just released our 7th album.

2. How would you describe your style? Which bands influenced your music?

Død: Death metal. All great bands inspire me, but there's no doubt that the US death metal scene inspired me a lot in the 90's.

3. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Død: Basically to explain and understand evil, but also be your own master. We question a lot about religion and the madness going on in the world.

4. It's been 4 years since we last spoke can you give me a brief summary as to what the band has been up too? Last time we had talked about your album "Come Death".

Død: Well, Souls of Damnation was released in 2009, Brutalitarian Regime in 2011 and now we have a new album. We did two major tours in the US/Canada in 2010 and 2011. We did a European tour with Suffocation in 2012. We played Hellfest 2012. And at the end of 2012 we did our first headliner tour in Norway. Now, we're up for a headliner tour in Europe and several summer festivals. So, we'been pretty busy!

5. With your new album you decided to go Self-Titled. Do you feel that's a big statement? Band's tend to name their albums self-titled when they feel it's indicative of the sound they've been trying to craft. Do you feel this is the sound you've been trying to achieve with the band?

Død: BRT is celebrating their 15th anniversary this year. I had a clear vision for the album cover of this mighty and blood-drenched throne. There could be no other title!

6. How did the writing process differ this time around as opposed to the past?

Død: Not much to be honest. I still write most of the music, but Meathook contributed with two great tracks this time.

7. Lyrically, do you think this album has a different feel because of where you all are in this point in your lives?

Død: Well, introducing a new singer on this album, surely brings a different approach lyric wise. It's still about religion and evil and trying to understand and explain the madness in this fucked up world.

8. Who produced this album and what was it like working with them?

Død: The bass player of my other band, Zerozonic, mixed and mastered the album. He's very talented and knows how to capture the sound we want!

9. Who did the cover artwork and how much input did you have on it?

Død: Rafael Tavares from Brazil. I had the concept for the front cover, but Rafael made it all and he nailed it.

10. Tell me about your video/song for the song "Primitive Killing Machine".

Død: Well, I specifically wrote this as I knew it would be the video song. It's very catchy and among the slower songs on the album. A perfect groove throughout the song and some bad-ass riffs.

11. Has Blood Red Throne ever played in the States or plan to do so in the future? What are your upcoming touring and show plans?

Død: We toured the whole US and Canada in 2010 with Dimmu Borgir and Enslaved. In 2011, we did it all over again with Grave. We'd love to come back and we have many us fans. We hope to return in 2014. Now, we have an upcoming headliner tour in Europe, a mini your in the UK and several summer festivals.

12. What is your opinion on sites posting your guys material and other bands material?

Død: It's inevitable. However, most bands put out their music on iTunes, Spotify and Wimp, so I can understand why someone has to upload it elsewhere. Personally, I'm old school and have been collecting CD's since 1993. I will never stop.

13. How do you guys feel about the classifications in metal? like death metal, metalcore and other subgenres and how some get a negative rep.

Død: Well, we DO play death metal and that's the way it is. I guess it's necessary to label all the zillion types of metal anyway.

14. What is your opinion on the current state of metal?

Død: I think it's great that more people acknowledge this genre and see us as professional musicians. At least some of us, hehe. But there's no doubt about it that there are too many metal bands. And too many
crappy metal bands. But who am I to judge...

15. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Død: We have a lot of gigs ahead, so get your ass out there and have a good time with BRT.

16. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Død: A bunch of places, hehe. Live in your hometown. Buy our CD's and listen. Facebook, soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify, Wimp. You name it. The albums should be available worldwide. They can also be ordered from Sevared Records. There's a limited vinyl box this time. including a t-shirt exclusively, signed poster and several other items. Can be ordered from bloodredthrone.bandcamp.com.

17. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Død: The power, the groove and the killer songs.

18. Any final words of wisdom?

Død: Only death metal is real!

1. Can you shed some light on the band's history and briefly summarize the saga of Blood Red Throne for those who are not yet familiar with the band?

Tchort and Død played in Satyricon between 1996 and 1999, but our passion for death metal resulted in forming BloodRedThrone in 1998. We got the very talented Erlend Caspersen on bass some time after and the three of us are still the remaining original members of the band. We're about to release our fifth studio album through Earache Records and we hail from Norway!

2. You have a brand-new record, "Come Death," out in the open, what can you tell me about its creation - writing, recording, and how you managed to capture that classic style you're known to carry out when expressing yourselves musically.

Well, Come Death is not brand new at all anymore, hehe, and we have a new album comin' out in May, but anyway, we wanted a more old school feel to it on Come Death, so Tchort and I on guitars made some cool riffs and put them together nicely. We always write our songs separately and this time I wrote six of the songs, while Tchort wrote two. We also added one of our all time favorite bands; Gorguts, and included a cover of the track Disincarnated from their best album, Considerd Dead! We went to a local studio, dUb Studio and recorded all instruments and vocals, but we mixed the album in Sweden in Studio Deadline. We're very happy with the sound and the songs indeed and this is the path we want to go!

3. What kind of expectations did you have for the album when you first started writing the new material? How do you feel about the record now, that it's done, pressed, and soon to be unleashed upon the masses?

Well, the previous album to Come Death was Altered Genesis and that is our most brutal and intense album in our discography, so we knew some expected this to be continued. But we were a bit fed up with all the bands playing extreme all the way. We wanted to get back to our roots and incorporate the classic stuff from bands like Obituary, Death, Gorguts, Pestilence and so on. But of course, combine this with modern extreme metal, so the whole album is a perfect mix between all the elements we enjoy. The album's been out in the stores for one and a half year now, so the response has mostly been very good. We also introduced our new singer and drummer on Come Death and though some misses our former singer, Come Death has been well accepted by our fans!

4. Traveling across the world to share your music, where have you guys been? What are the plans on the road? Any particular destination spots you have in mind?

We've done several European Tours, we've been in England and Scandinavia, but we haven't been to the US or South America or Japan for that matter. These are continents we really want to visit and we're currently workin' on some US and South America dates! In Europe, Netherland and Belgium have always been great countries for us to play in!

5. Has your band had the Los Angeles Murderfest experience? Is that something you'd be interested in?

Nope, we haven't, but as I mentioned, the US is a big goal for us. We have many fans over there and we often get questions from US fans who wonder when we will get over! So, let's hope 2009 will make this happen!

6. Is the tour you're on now in support of a new album you're working on?

Hm, we're not on tour. The latest tour we did was with Divine Heresy, December 2007! Anyway, we're in studio these days recording our fifth studio album, entitled Souls of Damnation and after this there will be quite some touring for us!

7. What shaped together Blood Red Throne and how has your sound progressed?

Like I said, the passion for death metal has been huge to Tchort and I and I got to know Tchort right after he quit Emperor in 1994, and we soon hit it off and knew we had to form a band together! We've pretty much had the same riffs and sound going on, but there's a great improvement productionwise from our two first albums to our 3 latest!

8. Aside from expecting an awesome record, what else can we expect to see from you guys?

Well, this time there will be a dvd release ro celebrate our ten years anniversary! And most likely, we will visit countries and continents we haven't been before!

9. How do you feel it fits in with the rest of your releases?

Souls of Damnation will be a continuation of Come Death, but I think with even cooler production. Fans also requested more solos, so this time there's some lead shit on every song, hehe!

10. How did you guys get into the metal scene in the first place? What drew you towards it, and why do you still devour every minute of it?

Personally, I got into metal as my mom listened to a lot of rock music and some metal. So, I stole her Tell No Tales cassette by the Norwegian band TNT back in 1987, and from then I've been addicted to metal. I got into more extreme metal in 1992, when my friend showed me bands like Pestilence and Obituary! I like all kinds of metal music and I just feel empty without music. It's a huge part of my life and I listen to metal every day!

11. What's kept you guys together for such a long time, having gone through line-up changes, solo/side projects, and all that jazz. What makes you guys stick it out until the very end of your days?

I wonder that too sometimes! I guess Tchort and I have a invisible bond having played together for more than 13 years. We like each other's songs and way of playing and we never question each other's songs. We know it's quality anyway. Last original member, Erlend, is also so smooth workin' with and he's just an easy going guy with extreme skills. Vald, the singer, is also the greatest to work with and there's never any problem with him. But we have tough days too and it's not always easy when the band never meet as a band and rehearse. But, no pain, no glory!

12. What is the writing and recording process like for Blood Red Throne?

For me, I record everything at home in my home studio. It usually starts with a riff I have and I record it with a drum beat. Almost suddenly after that, I have an opinion of what kind of drum beat or guitar riff should come next and this continues to a whole song. I also like having verses and chorus to some extent, and not just have a thousand riffs put together. Then I e-mail the song to the drummer and we take it to rehearsal to see if everything works and maybe add some of his ideas. I make the necessary changes back home and e-mail the song to Erlend. Mostly, he figures out all the riffs and send it back to me. Then, I send it to Vald (Singer) and he makes his lyrics and vocals and some of it we get to listen at rehearsal. If not, we do on the album, haha! Tchort also likes to jam on his riffs at rehearsal with our drummer and the rest of the band rarely hear his songs until they're on the album!

13. What inspires you to create this music?

17 years of explosion to this music and a personal ego and creativity to make our own music. We also think it's important for Norway to have a few great death metal bands!

14. Where do you see yourself and Blood Red Throne in twenty years?

Most likely dead and buried, but you never know. Not because it's hard to play, but it's not easy keeping a band together for ages anyway!

15. Do you have any parting words or messages?

Thanks for supporting Norwegian death metal and catch us live someday. We will destroy! Also check our new album featuring a DVD when it's released in May! Cheers in hell!
