Reigning Phoenix Music, a rapidly ascending record label specializing in hard rock and heavy metal, is excited to announce a strategic, multi-year partnership with Maurizio Iacono's Distortion Music Group. Founded by music industry leader Gerardo Martinez and avionics and tech entrepreneur Sven Bogner, RPM will manage the release, distribution, and marketing of DMG artists under the RPM umbrella.

Martinez brings over two decades of label experience to the partnership, highlighted by his collaborations with prominent bands like SLAYER,and pivotal roles in the careers of CARCASS, DIMMU BORGIR, KERRY KING, KATAKLYSM, MESHUGGAH, MACHINE HEAD, DEICIDE, SOULFLY, and others.

"I met Maurizio back in 1995 while he was touring the US for the first time,” shares Martinez. “Years later I worked with him with KATAKYLSM, and other bands he manages such as SEPTICFLESH and FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, and since have built a very strong career and relationship that has lasted over two decades. I'm very much looking forward at the prospect of this new partnership that will bring a lot of new talent and well established artists!"

Maurizio Iacono, not only the enduring frontman for death metal legends KATAKYLSM, but also a successful artist manager, has nurtured the careers of influential bands such as SEPTICFLESH, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, WIND ROSE, and UNLEASH THE ARCHERS. With a keen eye for talent through his own record label, he first signed WIND ROSE and has continued to discover and support rising artists.

“Gerardo and I have known each other for over 20 years,” adds Iacono. “From teenagers with a love for metal at concerts to working in many facets of the music industry together, we have grown in it for over two decades. Two years ago, I started Distortion Music Group, a label imprint designed to give the artist a voice and fighting chance to shine. When Gerardo approached me about partnering DMG with RPM and bring some fire power to the label, it was a no brainer for us to accept this new venture and bring it to the next level!”

This spring, Death Metal fans will be treated to an epic night of music on the 'Cancel Culture Over North America 2024' tour. For almost three decades, the US/French Canadian-based melodic death metal syndicate KATAKLYSM has delivered unapologetic waves of powerful sound across the entire globe.

The band’s fifteenth full-length studio album, Goliath, was released last August via Nuclear Blast Records. Today, the band releases the music video for the title track.

KATAKLYSM'S Maurizio Iacono states, "As we enter a new year we cannot forget about the struggles the world is in and the darkness that engulfs it, however as the story tells of ancient bravery. No enemy is too big and no enemy is too strong … we are living through a modern-day Davis vs Goliath situation, it’s time to rise up together and bond that energy as one against the machine! Enjoy this video we shot for the title track GOLIATH as we prepare to embark on a world mission in the name of metal and freedom!"

For almost three decades, the US/French Canadian-based melodic death metal syndicate KATAKLYSM has delivered unapologetic waves of powerful sound across the entire globe. On August 11th, 2023 the band’s fifteenth full-length studio album Goliath will be unleashed unto the masses via Nuclear Blast Records.

Today, KATAKLYSM releases the second single, 'Die As A King'. The single is the prequel to the first single 'Bringer Of Vengeance' both lyrically as well as the theme of the video. Musically, 'Die As A King' is the modern update of traditional death metal meets catchiness.

Maurizio Iacono comments, “'Die as a King' is the prequel to the first single 'Bringer of Vengeance,' the song shows the fall of King Richard I 'Lionheart' and the message is one of standing tall for your convictions until the end, even when facing certain death. The song embodies some of the KATAKLYSM melodic trademarks with a brutal undertone and groove-ladened rhythmic section that intertwined with each other."

"Bringer Of Vengeance" is the first single from the album. The song opens with drop-tune guitars and takes the listener on a journey mashing together modern Metal and Djent components that are layered over the traditional KATAKLYSM sound.

Maurizio Iacono comments, "Our new album Goliath comes at a time in our society where division and hate are growing and spreading on a worldwide basis, where ideologies on how the future should be for humanity is colliding, This is also a time of unprecedented power structures fighting for the control of our lives, the story of David vs Goliath has never been more important than these modern times, Metal has always been a voice of rebellion against oppression and for the protection of our freedoms, the album also touches on inner conflict and doing what needs to be done to confront your inner demons.

"The 'Bringer of Vengeance' single’s main idea is about a carefully and patiently plotted revenge. The song is inspired by the events surrounding the assassination of King Richard I 'The Lionheart' and the idea that it might take time but, one day justice will always be served".

"Here it comes" is entirely what was said throughout the night at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, California. For it was because of Canadian's in the form of death metal act Kataklysm and other Californians in Exmortus! These acts rounding out the night at this known venue, decked out all in black, as the people themselves also wore black attire left and right, all was a buzz, as people eagerly had awaited these bands arrival that evening.

Exmortus were the ones to kick things off before headliners Kataklysm took the stage to wrap up the night. The crowd of on lookers, took ready, as Exmortus erupted the stage, bringing pure chaos and thrash metal across the venue, the mosh pit, opening up literally, as males and females alike, were shoved and pushed each and every way possible. Others falling to the floor, being quickly lifted upwards, as they run a muck once more, throughout the band's performance. The band's presents upon the stage being brutalizing yet intense. As the crowd cheered with glee to their mannerisms, as the songs thundered through, causing fists to raise high in the air, while others drank to amuse themselves, everyone else, nodding if not bobbing their heads to the tone of the beat. Exmortus playing material old and new especially off their fifth album to date "The Sound Of Steel", just released, had brought forth a presents, that caused such excitement throughout the night, that all who witnessed them were left in total joy.

EXMORTUS:

After their set was concluded, all stood watch, as the roadies took down equipment to just set up all new gear for the headliners, that was Kataklysm. As they were preparing themselves back stage, the clock struck along, until close to 11PM of which time would be that the band would play. Going on to play a good solid hour or so set list, consisting of all new material and old material working's as well.
Their most latest album and thirteenth album to date would be titled "Meditations" released just this year and start of the summer. As the band would be playing the Whisky A Go Go in the form of an album tour, miniature portion though. While this may have been a mini tour it was still a successful one, as tonight would be the finale of said tour.

KATAKLYSM:

The band went on, playing for that time frame given, as the vocalist went on and on about saying "Here it comes", to other expressions of "move" down "raise your horns!" The crowd easily listening, doing as told, the mosh pit, opening up far and wide, as again the people being thrown, shoved, and pushed everywhere available. The crowd and band together were in high hyper tensions, not letting their energy fade away but lighten up.

Fans cheered and applauded throughout, given their thanks to what was happening during the set, as the band would go on to play such tracks as "As I Slither", "Crippled And Broken", "Shadows And Dust", "Black Ship", to newer tracks off their latest "Meditations" release like "Guillotine" and "Outsider". All of which given great responses by the crowd, as all were thrilled with delight to the sound waves sent off from these song selections.

Overall though, Kataklysm and Exmortus both rounded off the night, in a mighty way. As both shared the same stage, given a performance, that all would recall in no time at all. Surely a mixture of death metal and thrash metal, that will not be missed, but be cherished forever more.

Melodic Death Metal band KATAKLYSM, whose hard work ethic has made them a household name in the extreme metal genre, have entered into a co-management deal between Hard Impact Music and FM Music Management.

Hard Impact Music has been involved in the careers of world recognized artists such as Fleshgod Apocalypse, Iced Earth, Alestorm, Septicflesh, and Carach Angren just to name a few. FM Music Management’s impressive roster includes Nonpoint, Through Fire, Deadset Society, The Orphan The Poet, Marty Casey, Screaming For Silence, Well-Known Strangers and Kildare.

Frontman Maurizio Iacono says, "It was only matter of time before Frank and myself would get involved in a business venture. I’ve known Frank for many years as a promoter, manager and friend and there has been many talks about co-operating on many facets of the music business over the years and today I'm happy to say my management company Hard Impact Music has taken its first step in North America with Frank and his team at FM Music Management with a co-management agreement for Nuclear Blast recording artist Kataklysm. The band will be releasing its highly anticipated new album “Meditations” via Nuclear Blast records this June and we see a positive outcome behind this new partnership made with the FM brand. I consider this a first step between both companies into bigger things on the horizon and also a chance to spotlight Chicago as a center and major hub for rock and metal development worldwide."

Frank Mastalerz of FM Music Management adds, "Maurizio has long been an integral part of the metal scene worldwide leading Kataklysm in front of fans across the globe for many years. I’m more than excited to be working with him as a friend and partner in pushing Kataklysm to new heights and expanding our business on many levels. I’ve long been involved with all things metal so bringing a genre stallworth like Kataklysm along with Maurizio's industry knowledge to our company was the perfect partnership and addition. FM Music Management will continue to expand on all fronts and this was the first of many new pieces to come."

HEADBANGERS BALL - The original will have a loud and live comeback! Headbangers Ball - a name that bears pure heavy metal nostalgia - will come to life again! By the end of this year, MTV's classic 80's show shall return as a series of events. MTV Headbangers Ball, hosted by Continental Concerts in cooperation with MTV, is going to tour Europe. Just like the classic TV show presented by Vanessa Warwick, the festival tour is going to embody the cutting edge and timeless essence of pure f**king metal!

Headliner of this festival tour will be U.S. metal gods ICED EARTH! Formed in Florida in the mid-80s, the band celebrated its international breakthrough with the album "Burnt Offerings", which defined the band's trademark style between power and thrash metal. Their last album "Plagues Of Babylon" came out in 2014 and charted on #5 in Germany. To this day, the band is recognised as one of the most successful traditional metal acts.

Finish headbangers ENSIFERUM are considered one of the most successful musical exports from Northern Europe. Integrating traditional instruments such as the Finnish kantele into their rousing, aggressive metal sound, they can rely on a rabid fan-base and recently scored #1 in the Finnish charts as well as #15 in Germany for the latest album "One Man Army".

Comments ENSIFERUM's Sami Hinkka: "We are really proud to be on the MTV's Headbangers Ball -tour. Hell, we were one of those kids who stayed up on Sunday nights to check out the show and all awesome heavy metal videos and interviews of our idols! And now we are part of this legendary tour and a start of a new era, it just feels like a dream come true. So brace yourselves for the ultimate metal experience of a lifetime! See you in front row!"

Earlier in this year Canadian / American Death Metal Act KATAKLYSM completed an incredibly successful tour throughout Europe covering forty four cities in support of their new album "Of Ghosts And Gods". The band is considered as one of the biggest and well-established acts in Death Metal for many years now and stands out through their characteristically musical interplay between aggressive drum sounds and melodic guitar tracks and crushing grooves , the band recently won the Juno award in Canada (Equivalent to a grammy) for best "heavy metal album of the year" for their latest album "Of Ghosts and Gods".

Modern metal outfit UNEARTH from Massachusetts/USA completes this diverse and absolutely crushing billing. The band's most recent studio album "Watchers Of Rule" was released in 2014 and this furious live act will perfectly open up the MTV Headbangers Ball tour.

Canadian death metallers Kataklysm has been around for over 20 years and are still going strong. Eleven albums under their belts with tons of touring in between with no plans on stopping. Guitarist Jean-Francois Dagenais discusses the tour, history, and future plans.

1. Do you ever see the original line-up to get back together ever?

Jean: To be quite frankly I don't see it happening. It was great for what it was back in the day. Espically our old singer we liked him for who he was but I don't see myself or the other members to play music with him ever. There's no hard feelings, I think who Kataklysm is for today is who we are, myself, and the other guys, I think this is who we are and how we're going to die. Money talks and promoters for festivals or record labels ask for certain people or groups to get back together for one day or a few days, but for me and the rest of the guys, it's not about the money , but I don't see it to happen.

2. Would you mind telling me where the band got its name and what the meaning is behind it?

Jean:  Our old singer he got the name but wanted to call it by its Latin name kataklusmos which means in Latin a great devastation or an event that changes the world. We thought it sounded funny so we changed the name to English and switched the "C" to a "K". The English word is spelled with a C but we wanted to keep the Latin letter of K because it looked like Kreator and thought it looked cool back then.

3. You got new drummer Oli Beaudoin, how do you go about finding a new member that you know, clicks with the band and meshes well with your music?

Jean: So far so good. We had a great time writing the record with him and touring with him, musically we fit really well together. But personally he's getting part of the family slowly. It always takes longer to get someone with the band, the other members have been with us for so long that it's harder to get someone into that inner circle. He's doing a good job and it's working really well at the moment, we met him at a show we had to cancel because Max couldn't play so Oli played the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise a few years ago with us, and he's worked with other bands, so we knew he would be the one for the job, he's learned the songs really fast, he was also a fan of Kataklysm, so he knew the songs already, the chemistry was just so natural so when Max needed to take time off we knew he would be the one to call when he decided to do it with us.

4. You're on your eleventh album to date, what can you tell me about this album that hasn't been said about it already?

Jean: It's a long time when we started 20 years ago. Probably before the internet was really popular before, it was a different time back then. We went through years of different technology and music and still can't believe it. When we first started they told us we wouldn't last 5 years with the way music and bands go, the way the industry is and we're still here doing better than ever. I don't how to call it if it was faith or us just being stubborn and stupid, I think we're all happy to be around in this crazy music world. I think being part of this music scene is fun and a ton of great musicians and people out there, meeting them all over the world, to be here in this day and age.

5. Did you get the album you wanted? Is everything on there or were there some things that were just impossible to pull off?

Jean: It's never 100% the way you want it. Art is never really finished it's just released. It has to come to a point of just releasing it otherwise you go insane or you miss deadlines or make choices on finishing stuff. That said, I think everybody gave 200% in the song writing and everyone worked really hard. I have to give it to the vocals sometimes you work 6-8 hours a day and you don't get much done, you have to keep that will alive to do this. I am happy about it and it sounds the way we want to do it and it's at its best and it's a mix of our roots and us as 2014 and I'm very proud of it.

6. You will be heading out on your own headlining tour, with no days off why did you want to go full force with this run?

Jean: When you're out on the road throws you off,  because you get into a zone where you get comfortable having a pattern everyday that you do, when you get the day off it throws everything off balance. I prefer to do it in one shot, with this run we decided to split it in half instead of the one shot we usually do. We're going to do the other parts of the U.S. on the next run in the fall. We wanted to do it this way in one straight shot no days off. When you play for 3-4 weeks in a row you have the energy but when you play 2 months straight you get tired. I think the fans and people coming to the shows deserve their money's worth and if you're tired and not giving it your all so I think doing it this way was the best way to do it.

7. Why did you want this touring cycle to just have you and Aborted only as opposed to the usual amount of acts taking part in a tour?

Jean: We always try to do new things and I think the way we wanted to do this was to find a way to keep the ticket prices as cheap as we could. We wanted to give the local talent a chance to play with us and we are always getting bands asking us if they can play, there's never enough spots on the bill. We don't want to play after 10 bands late at night. We want to keep it at 5 or 6 bands max or if it's just us and Aborted we could have only 3 or 4 bands play. So the promoters for every city was happy with it, they can get their best bands to play the shows, now it's only us and Aborted but the costs are low and at the same time all the local talents get promoted that was the idea. It's a trail run and if it works we will do it again and if it doesn't do great we will do it another way and we're always trying new things.

 8. What can fans expect to hear on this tour? More new songs or old songs?

Jean: We're stoked about the new album and want to play as much as the new stuff as we can. We also have a ton of classic songs and I know our fans want to hear. We're always trying to switch the setlist around for all the tours and the fans who come back hearing the same stuff, so it will be a mix of both. I think there's a lot of the new and the old stuff on this set list to please the people.

9. You guys have yet to release a live CD/DVD combo, when can we expect to see something like that from you guys?

Jean: We released a documentary a few years ago so it's like a DVD of the band's career if the fans want to see the whole story. You see how we choose to do things the way we did, it's 5 hours long so mostly people watch it in parts it's interesting and if you want to check it out it's called "The Iron Will". We did some live stuff in the past and released a live DVD filmed in Germany "Live in Deutschland – The Devastation Begins" that the fans can also check out.

10. While out on the road and doing tours and shows with other acts, how does the road trip work, do you all follow each other on the road in a long train or does everyone go their own way and meet up at their destinations and break stops?

Jean: It depends on the tour we always try to get a tour bus for ourselves because we feel that we have a choice of how you spend your money and how you travel, you can get a van and a driver and spend time in a hotel room every night. Or you can take that budget put it into the tour bus but don't get hotel rooms every night, you get a bed that rolls as you travel while you sleep. You feel fresh each and every day and I think it's smarter to invest your money, so this tour we get the front and Aborted get's the back with the bed's in the middle. We have shared buses with them before so we decided to do it this way. Some bands prefer the vans and I understand that, I can see you want the control and not be stuck with a schedule I think I prefer the bus and we're getting old and it's nice to have our sleep and it's a smarter option for us.

11. Would you guys ever consider releasing any of your material acoustically? IF you guys did go the acoustic route and do a show all acoustic do you think the fans would go?

Jean: I am an artist and experimenting and I think some of our material would translate well acoustically with some of the songs. But I don't see us doing that live or doing a type of thing like that. We're a metal band and it's how we started and how we will die. If we decide to do anything acoustic or orchestral type of direction it will be a different project it would not be called Kataklysm it's not going to be our songs. We worked a long time to find the sound and style we play and will continue pushing with every future album.

12. Anything else you'd like to say or want to add?

Jean: Just a big thank you and thanks for the interview and support. For anyone who wants to check us out we will be out on the road for the next few weeks and if you can't see us you will see us in the fall, check out the new album wherever metal is sold and cheers everybody!

Maurizio Iacono, frontman of the veteran death metal band, Kataklysm, has issued a statement on his official Facebook page commenting on the recent layoffs at Roadrunner Records and the state of the music industry in general. Numerous press outlets have picked up the strong and impassioned message in the wake of this massive hit to the heavy metal community.

“This is just the beginning,” wrote Iacono. “Not buying albums is affecting the labels who in return invest in the bands, tour support, recording .. it's destroying all newcomer bands and [it’s] making middle class musicians poor. You're not hurting the labels by illegal downloading, you're killing the bands.”

He continued, “Starting a band these days is a suicide mission. If music becomes a hobby for musicians, then no more tours, no more good music. Dark times ahead. Well, wait, we have holograms now, don't need REAL people on stage... my bad ...

“Again, it's not about me. I've had a great 20 years; if it ends tomorrow I can keep my head [held] up high for what I've done, but what about the new comers and the future of music? NOT good. It's not you the fans' fault, don't get me wrong. It's the system that let it happen. Governments, etc. could have stopped it. They didn't. Now it's up to us, the fans, to help out.

“Buy a shirt, CD, vinyls, download on iTunes, Amazon, the songs you like .. DO SOMETHING! I love you all, and always remember, you guys have all the power to build or destroy, we are only messengers of your voice.”
