AIRBOURNE is announcing their new self-titled album in a truly original manner. See below the band's heartfelt letter to Lemmy, sharing their journey through this album's process and paying homage to their mentor and friend.

Dear Lemmy,

Well, mate, it’s been a long time since we’ve said “g’day” or shared a stage together. We’ve never forgotten one of the things you said to us, which was: “No matter what, stay true to yourselves. Don’t worry about all the other bullshit in the music industry.

Make music that your roadies will like. Because they’ve heard your shit more than anyone else, if they like it, everyone will love it.”

Mate, we did it.

Six years ago, we shut the roller doors to everyone and got to work writing songs for this record, spending many, many hours, many, many days, weeks, months, and yearsnwriting and writing, throwing things out, starting again, and always sifting for gold.

After about five years of this, we felt that we had a solid bunch of Rock’n’Roll songs happening. Then, Mutt Lange and Bryan Adams brought in their big guns, and a couple of those songs we wrote with them have made the record. We wrote a lot with Bryan, and he was incredibly inspiring, and we learned a lot from him - a true rock ‘n’ roll gentleman. At that point, a long-time mate of ours, Vick Wright, flew out to Australia, and we wrote and wrote and wrote some more with him. He’s a rock ‘n’ roll street poet, and he taught us a lot as well. We ended up with some real good rockers with him.

We sent everything to Brian Howes, and he said we have a solid record now, and he was pumped to work his magic. Dante from Spinefarm, who has been a real champion all along the way on this record, gave us the green light to make 'Airbourne.'

We shipped out a ton of gear from our Manchester compound and from all over the world, loaded it into a semi-tonne truck, and drove it up the Eastern guts of Australia from Melbourne to Music Farm Studios, hidden in a jungle on the surf coast of Australia. This place is surrounded by snakes, Sydney funnel-web spiders, rats, and cane toads—plenty of stuff that can kill ya. We know you would have loved it there because that which doesn’t kill you only makes you louder!

We coped with hurricane weather, flash flooding rains, and palm trees that were torn out of the ground. One of them almost killed Streety, our bass player. That was a very near miss. The tape machine was a fucker. It wouldn’t stop blowing up, but she sounded great, so she was worth dealing with and waiting on.

Every day we would wake up, jump over a brown snake or python, feed the pigs, say “g’day” to the goats, watch the one male rooster with a harem of hens swooning around him whilst he’s strutting around the place like he was King Dick. Who knew that fowl could be so inspiring?

We’d make our way down the hill to the studio, jumping over “old mate,” the resident snake that lived at the front doors of the studio. When we entered the studio, we’d make some heart-starting coffees, put some pies in the pie warmer, VB’s on ice, then Brian Howes, Mike Fraser, and Karl Dicaire would show up. A few cigarettes, laughs, and caffeine later, we’d talk some bullshit, and then we’d get rocking. For about 12-16 hours, we would go. Time ceased to exist for us, and it was the best fun we’ve ever had making an album.

The last batch of songs we wrote with Brian around the Studio Kitchen table, often whilst hurricanes had killed the power. While they were smashing the Studio together, we brought this album home. The main console was the original Neve desk from Albert Studios 1 here in Australia, (AC/DC, Rose Tattoo, The Angels, Billy Thorpe and more), there’s an unmistakable Raw Oz rock tone in this desk, and you’d love it.

We didn’t finish the record in time, as we had to go back out on tour, which actually worked out really well because lyrics that weren’t written in that studio needed to come from being on the road, and that’s exactly what happened with the song “Alive After Death.”

We came back after the tour to our Melbourne studio home, down in St Kilda, the famous Hothouse Studios, where we recorded our first EP. We’ve always had a love affair with Hothouse—it has the Neve console from Albert’s Studio 2, so it was gutsy to go back there and finish this record off.

Craig Harnath, who we’ve been mates with forever, joined the team, and after another tour, and another few months and trips down to Hothouse, we finally finished the record. Zakk Cervini joined the team and mixed up a Rock’n’Roll storm of a record. He’s a real weapon! Ted Jensen—aka “the great one”— gave Zakk’s atomic mixes a real supercharged spit and polish and brought it all home with his classic trademark Sterling master print that only he can do.

So, we finally ripped off the Band-Aid and mustered up the balls to play it to the roadies…. And guess what? They love this one! Thank fuck! Only took us 20 years!

Thanks again for all of your words back then, mate. We’ve never forgotten them, and we wouldn’t be here without ya. We’ll always keep you "Alive After Death."

Rock on, Lem.

Much Love,

Joel O’Keeffe

Eufobia's third full-length album went the "Self-Titled" approach with titling. It was released only two years ago back in 2016, so while it has been sometime since it's release, does the album actually still hold up? Well it actually does, Eufobia taking the approach of titling it after themselves is one thing. But another thing that makes this release so unqiue is probably the styling of the music. They play metal, except combine the likes of metal music and some elements of death metal mixed with thrash metal at times. This combination being quite decent for them. The album as a whole really makes such tracks as their included singles like "Liquid of Creation", "Hater", and "Graveyard" really "pop"! How so? Well the tracks just have this source of rhythm going, it's fast paced, edgy yet energy driven through and through. Whilst the vocalization provided throughout these selected tracks, makes the material sound more vivid and fluid, almost running on an unstoppable flow of motion. These along with the rest of the album, really just pack in the material wholesomely together; as a nice tight package that sounds fierce yet extensive. All in all Eufobia's "Self-Titled" album is a third album release, is a solid piece of work, that will likely continue to develop as the band progresses and grows together as musicians.

Black metal band Mascharat who formed in 2010, released a demo in 2014 with a follow-up debut self-titled album in 2017, with quite the story behind it. This album not only is the continuation of the previous demo release, but it is as well the conclusion. The album is structured like this, a tale of the symbolic kind, representing a path of initiation, that's been divided into various phases and led by the masks. The path begins with the overturning of moral and social values with the destruction of one's own identity in order to embrace the than new truth. If any of that makes sense, than great, if it does not, then think of this album, as black metal to its finest accountable abilities of creation. In other words, it is an album that has promise and grace. More or less, Mascharat's self-titled efforts, is loaded with lots of aggression mixed in with adrenaline, like take for instance "Médecin de peste", "Mora", "Simulacri" and "Rito", these selection of tracks, do those depictions justice. If not more so than that. Mascharat's style is black metal per say, but it stands far from the usual method that is heard countless times over. Their rendition of it, makes it more unique, vivid, and original. The vocalization and instrumentation used, is performed well, keeping the melodies in tune, while still molding a sound that works. It is really hard to say anything more about this band, its genre, or this album, other than it is an album of sorts, that may have been done prior, but this act keeps it together, to be not like the others, but be themselves.

What better way to describe how you should listen to Homerik's self-titled debut full-length album, well with your imagination of course! That is the best option according to Homerik, your only limitation is your imagination, but using your imagination nevertheless. With that said, Homerik takes on quite the role of unusual in this case of music that is particularly metal. It is a rather collaborative effort from not just Homerik but by others as well, friends, colleagues, all over come in to put in their two cents to make this take of the metal style, be various and inspired by the world and it's classical genres as well. In other words, your imagination and mindfulness are taken on an experimental journey. You getting hit with such momentous energy sources, you just find yourself rather at ease of it all. Everything coming together as it all works within, crafting the music together, as the harmonics and melodies just build upon one another. It delivers this in-depth sensation that has a flow of the unknown, making the music more on a variation that is mystic yet wondrous. In other words,  each of the tracks off this album is very different than the last, some being mellow, while others fast neck pacing, as the rest are in the in-between aspects. You just get this whole jest of this, that, and more. That is how Homerik's self-titled debut, works itself out, giving you this grasp of what can be and how it should become. It's their ways of doing music and it suits them fairly nicely.

Thrash metal act Bastardös had released their self-titled album back in 2015 but after 2 years they went on to re-release the album because why not? That said, this album is nothing different than its prior release, the quality of it may have been enhanced a bit, otherwise it is still as thrashy as it ever was beforehand when it first came about. As far as Bastardös' themselves as a thrash metal act, their style is very reminisce to the classic thrashers of the 80's to 90's era like Destruction, Slayer, and even some Sodom. When listening in to get some of those acts dashed in for good measure of account, because that's the flare of ability that is going on. Lots of fast paced energy, loads of momentum, with tons of fun! All in all Bastardös self-titled re-release of an album that is this one, is by far a decent quality of effort and is surely one to hear time and time again.

A debut release whether that would be a demo, single, EP or full-length album, could be the hit or miss track for a musician. In the case of post metal act Ssanahtes, with their Self titled debut EP, they have taken influences from Meshuggah, Electric Wizard, Neurosis, and the New Orleans, now this combination could be a good thing or a bad thing for this release, it turns out to be in the middle. For instance, the band wanted to offer their listeners not one but two different listening experiences, one being loud while the other being louder. In both cases, both versions sound the same, they are equally loud enough. As for the rest, the instrumentals are easy going, but enjoyable, allowing the music to easily pull you by each of the melodies provided. While the vocals are raw and aggressive, screams echo on and off, pulling the instruments at it, than away from it, if that makes any sense. As far as the song selection goes only  "Black Dragon", tends to stand out the most on this offering. This debut EP makes the first impression and glimpse if you will, into how Ssanahtes sounds, in this case of release, it's in the middle for their style, sound, and music approach, you can like it or you can dislike it, it's up to the listener in question.

Conducting From The Grave's 2009 debut "When Legends Become Dust" with former vocalist Lou Tanuis is what drew me towards the melodic death metal act but as they progressed forward with touring, showcases and writing and recording for future material so did the band themselves. A year passed with the follow-up 2010's "Revenants" with new vocalist and current placement for good Mikey Powell which would later continue his work with more touring and shows and later lead to latest follow-up release would which be the band's self-titled works. Since the arrival of Mikey Powell the band has lost me so hearing their self-titled release with this vocalist put into effect has the band sounding good but not great as they previously had sounded. The instrumentals are done quite well being aggressive yet progressive at times while the vocals just scream their way through the music - like cutting through a thin slice of cheese you just hear it all mash together. "Lycan", "The Rise", "The Harvest", and "The Calm Before..." bring out what these guys are trying to do on this release - everything is just put into place yet sounding out of place if that makes sense. When it comes down to it this time around yet years later Conducting From The Grave have got the guts to keep the ball rolling but the quality just isn't as great as it once was but it is still good just not good enough.

Combining the essence of the 80's with raw hardcore metal crossing over with thrash metal you get something by the name of Activator and their self-titled release. That said their usage of music takes that era of music and creates a style that makes you cringe. The instrumentals works well together having an on-going beat to each own while the vocals sound very thrash metal than hardcore - making the vocal chords be not as entertaining as they could be. For instance songs like "Beside Manor", "Tramp Stamp", "Savior", "Left Unsaid" and "Shackle", are the pick of the litter here, allowing everything just describe to be put into full on effect. The music is downright plain and boring. It has skill but it could be so much better. The vocals and music itself can be much faster and aggressive as opposed to how it all sounds currently doing like a whole 360 if you will would make this release a whole lot more fun yet entertaining than this.

Edge Of Attack is an act that crossed my path a while back with the single release of the track "Forever" from then on their music stuck with me and since we last spoke the band has grown in more ways than once.

With the release of their self-titled debut the band has changed members written all new material and the recording for it came out well for them. Some of the songs on this release that stood out above the rest includes “Forever”, “The Damned”, “The Haunting”, and “Crimson Rain”. These tracks alone really showcases the band’s ability as musicians, having the music be straight forward but raw from start to finish. Lyrically the context is meaningful but powerful keeping the listener to the groove of the beat of both words and music being played here.

Edge Of Attack’s debut indeed a raw case of aggression mixed with plenty of power and emotion written all over it.
