Black metal has been an on and off route with me some of it is good some of it is bad. But black metal isn't just a standalone genre it has it's subplots as well, for interest depressive black metal combines those elements with atmospheric to create an act they call Hateful Desolation with a brief demo entitled "Withering In Dust". The demo is indeed brief consisting of only 3-tracks, 2 of which come off the band's yet to be released album while the 3rd track is bonus addition, any way you listen to it, this is like all the other black metal acts available, these guys expressing that high pitched growl, with mellow dramatic instrumentals that crypts the environment with ease and harmony yet intensifies it. The vocals are appealing with the instrumentals just as compelling making Hateful Desolation an act to follow through on, in short one to indefinitely check out.

In just two short years, Stockholm/Sweden's all-girls-band Frantic Amber, were attitude adjusted and filled with brutalizing force just ready to explode. Now that they’ve released a 5-song demo it is time for their voices to be heard once and for all.

The demo starts off with the song entitled 'Bloodlust", which captures a rather slow but steady pace up the ladder if you will. It builds the music from the ground up and lets out a rupture of energy which can be noticed on "Doomed to Walk This Earth". That captives the music's ability of loud guitars with an aggressive field of energetic propositions that cannot be contemned. "The Awakening", and "Unbreakable" retrace back to how "Bloodlust" was laid out, having the same formula except with added additions here and there. For instance the vocal chords are deeper stretching the lyrics as they're being spoken.

Lastly comes "Wrath of Judgment", the one that also has its video counterpart completes this demo in a thunderous wrath of rage unlike never before. This song compels the listener from the inside out embracing the music at the forefront and letting it all easily seep into their flesh. So as Frantic Amber put it, "hear me roar, taste my wrath, and watch me rise above", which is precisely what these ladies plan to do.

Who would ever think that sex and death could lead to something dealing with the likes of industrial meets alternative rock, known only as SexyDeath. Having an emphasis on the 'T" being an inverted cross, SexyDeath combines their sources of industrial alternative rock by enforcing it with similarities to that of Marilyn Manson meets London After Midnight with a minor crossover of Dope Stars Inc. meets DeathStars. A rather crazy mix-up of other resembled acts all known into one solution but it manages to pull itself together in the end.

With that said, SexyDeath is nothing more than your average take on the goth industrial society showcasing their own abilities within this genre mix-up combining a rhythm of guitar riffs with a bouncy upbeat drum tactic that keeps the music constantly flowing without ever missing a beat. Whereas the vocal tones are rather deep and hypnotic memorizing its listener by its enchanted technique for one “Beautiful Disaster”, rather displays a heavy yet mellow take when it comprises itself showcasing a raw but emotional concept that overpowers the music altogether, compelling such texture and grief it keeps the listener at bay to want to hear more.

“Lick Out The Pain”, continues to rotate this heavy but mellow drift of emotional concepts overriding the music with its heavier aspects unleashing a thorough glimpse into what Marylyn Manson sounds like when put together with London After Midnight, you end up with a rough and tough tune with such heartfelt emotion written all over it, it compels the music drowning it into sorrow and bitterness.

‘A Chemical Rabbit”, embraces the listener taking the music down a notch or to going down the lines of sounding precisely like Dope Stars Inc. except with a softer tone, while the concluding song “Sins So Dirty”, has a repeating formula going back to sounding just as the begging songs once had done. Overall SexyDeath have expressed their own skills and obsession with the dark side of life, one of which will forever reign within the deepest depths of their misguided souls.

After picking up a demo copy of what I considered was the next upcoming resemblance to Suicide Silence meets Bleed from Within there was definitely a connection between the two – for one the vocals were quite similar whereas the instrumental structure was indeed well rounded but could use some more development.

As it turns out, Orange County, Californian’s Illusionist brought out the best they could do in terms if performance technique during their set –up at this year’s California Metal Fest which brought on such an impression on my behalf that their demo was surly to do the same. Which it just so happens did - the demo starts off with a heavy but intensive tune "A Sight Worth Seeing", which promises to be nothing more than a mixture of breakdowns meets a round-up of fast pacing guitar riffs clashing against the alignment of drum beats. While “Legacy”, has that same repeating texture of breakdowns but brings out a clear vocal effect that comes and goes every so often tending to overwrite the growling effect it was known to produce on its previous counter partner.

As the demo rounds itself off it completes with “Six Feet Under”, and “Tom Riddle”, both indicating that fast but heavy beat that is rather catchy at first glance but soon changes its course of rhythm returning to that breakdown tone of beat, showcasing that this isn’t just an ordinary illusion but this has been done by the Illusionists themselves.

Do you have forty-two minutes to spare in your regular day to day activities? If you answered yes then by all means get your attitude into proper adjustment because Wooden Jesus is here to resurrect your mind and expand your heart and soul.

Not only does their current but only demo release, resurrect your body from the inside out but it truly delivers and exposes the ultimate expression that is hidden within the essence that makes up that rock n’ roll vibration. The band tends to combine the classical styles of Soundgarden, meets Alice in Chains with a little added flare of Pearl Jam thrown in between to mix it altogether. By doing so, this instant combination of tunes brings out that crisp clear sound, of rock that defines its meaning.

For instance, the combination of Alice in Chains meets Soundgarden is quite remarkable, having those added flare ups of added guitar riffs with the double bass drum attitude really expresses the rock vibe rhythm that keeps this rock adrenaline absolutely alive. Let’s not forget the vocals of course, now these really set up the entire lay-up because those vocals clearly demonstrate that true blue essence of Alice in Chains because of those vocals. Now they are the ones that set up with that unique soundwave that makes the music shutter.

Wooden Jesus’ style is vibrant and smooth with added class that casts out that flare of modern rock attitude with outstanding energy that seeps right into the skin.
