Southern Califorians Scream The Dream is a 5-piece post hardcore screamo rock band just getting back into the mix of things when it comes to making music. Guitarist Nicky War took some time aside from him and the guys writing new material for their yet to be released EP to discuss this release as well as some shows that are in-store very soon.

1. So it's been a while since we last heard from Scream The Dream, can you tell me what's been going on with the band as of late?

Nicky: The band was on a little bit of a hiatus for a while. We all started jamming together again and now we've been in the studio nonstop.

2. Where are you in the process of the new EP?

Nicky: Still tracking a lot of it. We have a couple songs done but the overall finished product isn't gonna be ready for a bit.

3. Who is producing the EP?

Nicky: Our good friend Ahmad Alkurabi from Rob The Cartel and A Smile From The Trenches.

4. Where are you recording the EP?

Nicky: At Ahmad's place out in LA.

5. "Bright Blue Eyes And Butterfly Knives" is the current teaser song you've made available, when will this song be released?

Nicky: As soon as we can release it we will, which will be soon.

6. Can you tell me about the song, "Bright Blue Eyes And Butterfly Knives"?

Nicky: The song is actually a song we have had written for a long time now. It's about falling so deeply in love with someone to the point of obsession and insanity and ending up stalking and killing that person.

7. Will you be self-releasing or be having a label releasing the EP?

Nicky: As of right now it will be a self-release.

8. How would you describe the overall sound of the new EP? How does it compare to your previous material?

Nicky: Its definitely going to be different than what we've done before. We hit a lot of different styles in the few songs we chose to track. It's still Scream The Dream for sure though.

9. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began?

Nicky: We just wanted to go in there and put out the best possible songs we can. With Ahmad's help I believe we're doing just that.

10. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

Nicky: Nope, not yet anyways.

11. What are your songs about this time?

Nicky: An array of different things.. Christian is a mad man haha.

12. When did you start writing for this EP? How was the songwriting process different/similar to previous Scream The Dream material?

Nicky: A lot of the songs were previously written so long ago I don't even remember how they were born haha. One we're doing now we're actually writing in the studio. Getting the guitar structure first, then drums, then vocals. Writing in the studio is cool because its all laid out in front of you and easy to tweak.

13. How many songs will be on the EP?

Nicky: 3 songs.

14. Have you chosen a title and is it going to be a concept release?

Nicky: We do have a title, we can't say yet.

15. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new EP? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?

Nicky: The Bitter Truth is a song we wrote years ago. Its essentially Manson meets AFI meets Atreyu meets SKSK meets Black Dahlia Murder haha. I like to call it creep swing. Its a fun, bouncy, drivey rock/metal song.

Bright Blue Eyes And Butterfly Knives was written years ago as well. It's just a straight heavy song. The whole thing revolves around drive and the only let up in the song leads into an explosion of heavy.. it's my favorite haha.

16. When can we expect the new EP to be released?

Nicky: Probably around April/May... maybe sooner.

17. What are the plans as far as touring and shows go?

Nicky: Come May we'll be doing some small tours for sure.

18. Would you like to say or add anything else?

Nicky: We're just really happy to be playing again and putting out new music. The future of Scream The Dream is going to be awesome!

Just with a year under their belts Southern Californians Scream The Dream have so far full filled these so called dreams of theirs. By recording, writing, and performing all within a year’s time the band is set to release their EP debut “Dreams To Ashes”. Though they have yet to go out on the road on an “official” tour let alone riding in a touring van or using a trailer to carry all of their equipment the band looks at it a different way. To them music is what keeps them going and it is not something they would ever give up.

Scream The Dream is a hardworking, dedicated, and determined 6 piece set of musicians breaking all of the rules and trends present. They’ve shared the stage with bands such as the Black Veil Brides, Vampires Everywhere!, Get Scared, Modern Day Escape, Jamies Elsewhere, moving quick to create a style they can call their own that will infect your mind and eat out your soul.

1. Can you give our readers a brief history on Scream The Dream with how you came together as a band?

STD:  We started in August 2010 founded by myself, Mio, and Steven. Steven had left his previous band Stick Loves while having a friend named Christian who joined us. Having Corey come in after leaving Annihilate The Throne and Donald came in after leaving IRUNTRAINS!

2. Your debut EP is about to be released. Can you give us a brief on it?

STD:  All of the songs on the EP are just a sample of our style range. From Dreams to Ashes, is our heaviest song while 1:30 AM has more of a poppy tone to it. We wanted to go for a versatile tone but were still very consistent with this EP.

3. Who decided which songs would go onto the EP?

STD:  The whole band had a role in deciding which songs would go onto this CD and which would be recorded it was a collaboration effort.

4. How can Scream The Dream fans get the EP?

STD:  We have them at shows and anyone can feel free to contact us on Facebook and we’ll mail them out. It will soon become available to purchase online.

5. You have yet to be signed to a record label have you had any offers?

STD: We have yet to receive any offers from any labels but we're sure the time will come soon enough if we keep working at it.

6. How were you able to play alongside the Black Veil Brides? Are you a fan of their music?

STD: Though we had to sell quite a few tickets, M Productions has been quite generous with the shows they let us book and they have given us shows we will never forget. Mio and I are both fans of Black Veil Brides' music.

7. What CD's have you been listening to this week?

STD: I personally listen to a lot of Trivium, As I Lay Dying, Escape The Fate, A Smile From The Trenches, but my favorite right now is Get Scared's Cheap Tricks and Theatrics EP.

8. If you weren't a musician what would you be?

STD: I can't even imagine not being a musician. My entire life literally revolves around my music.

9. What's the best and worst thing about being a musician?

STD: The best thing I would say is seeing a crowd full of people just going crazy over songs I wrote. The worst part is definitely the fact that I'm basically in charge of the band. It can get stressful.

10. A young fan comes up to you and tells you your music has moved them and they want to become a musician like you. What advice would you give them?

STD: I'd tell them to always move forward with no hesitation.

11. What's the band's favorite song to play live?

STD: Our favorite song to play live is definitely Marching Mannequin.

12. How about shows is Scream The Dream set to head out on the road or not yet?

STD: For now we are just sticking to southern California, but who knows if the opportunity presents itself we will without a doubt go for it.

13. When it does come to playing shows how does the band go from one show to the next?

STD: We just book shows as they come or pick out ones we like and try and hop on. As far as transportation we usually drive a couple trucks. No van or trailer haha.

14. Does your family support you all being musicians?

STD: All of our families support us. My parents and Mio’s dad are at almost every single show and doing what they can to help us out.

15. Your fans have been asking about merchandise and when will it become available to purchase. So what is the date and where can fans pick up some gear?

STD: We are shooting for May, but it could be sooner, later, you'll just have to stay posted for now.

16. Where do you see Scream The Dream three years from now?

STD: It’s hard to say. We will for sure be touring and hopefully have a few nice endorsements or even a label time will only tell.

17. If you could scream the dream what would it be and why?

STD: We Scream The Dream every time we get up on that stage. We leave it up to each individual person to determine what our songs mean to them.

18. Do you have anything to say to our readers?

STD: We do what we can to give as much as we can to our fans and we would really appreciate if you went and voted for us to play this year’s Van’s Warped Tour in Pomona at www.battleofthebands.com.

The World Famous Whisky a GO GO who hasn’t heard of this infamous venue, well tonight Hollywood, California would have to battle it out with the ways of music, because tonight not just one but three local bands would be battling it in out somewhat in getting the crowd’s energy pumping but who would walk away victorious? Only time will tell for sure.

Round one started off with local Northridge, Californians, A Blessing Through Tragedy a combination of hardcore meets heavy metal/rock n' roll. By doing this particular combo these young men have built a solid ground for them but has managed to kick it up a couple of notches. How so exactly? Well their lead front man Robert nails the vocal chords effortlessly well, doing guttural growls like nobody else’s business. While guitarists Matt and Kory keep drummer Josh at a very steady pace that holds the music altogether just like scotch tape. Whereas the bass player/vocalist Jordan is pulled along evening everyone else out just right.  To top it all off the guy’s kept the crowd’s energy flowing and the fun didn’t even stop there, for if it wasn’t for their sampler single “Where Are the Fans” there is no telling as to where this band would end up next.

A Blessing Through Tragedy:

Not that round one was said and done it was onto round two. So now we are brought with Rancho Cucamonga, Californian’s Scream The Dream. Now they captured the crowd’s energy and kept a firm grasp onto it taking it with them from start to finish. As soon as their set had begun it had already gotten the crowd quite energized, with such songs as "I Close My Eyes”, as well as a cover tune "Not Good Enough For Truth Or Cliche", by Vegas rockers Escape The Fate. Which erupted with such force it was uncommon if you didn’t catch some crowd goers bouncing up and down or pushing the people around them it was all good fun in the long run.

Scream The Dream:

Last but definitely not least is the final of the three rounds of fun filling music, brought on by yet another local act, known simply as Black Veil Brides. Now these guys broke out onto the scene just a few years ago but since then they have grown in such a mass of fans its unreal. Since the departure of former drummer Sandra Alvarenga and success of their full-length debut “We Stitch These Wounds”, the band has seen better days with replacement drummer CC. Using the formula that KISS had once done back in their day and still are rocking nowadays, Black Veil Brides manages to pull this off quite well in their signature identities of their own accord.

Black Veil Brides:

But not only has this band pulled off being musicians but has banned together an Army of their very own, tonight that Army would gather to take part of the mayhem that is the BVB Army. This get together would be taking film crews shooting all day and night for the band's first ever DVD release, documenting the world and community that has spread faster than the plague had ever done.

So the night rolled off to a good start but the conclusion would come in at a very short rate, Black Veil Brides kicked things off at 9:45 P.M. with a swarm of cheers coming from all angles as the band braced themselves for their 40 minute set-up the crowd continued to cheer and embraced the tears, sweat, and energy being lifted off the stage and surroundings. An essence of fog floated over the crowd as the black curtain hiding the band had been dropped breaking into the tune 'Never Give In", that decrypts why not to give in to anyone no matter whom it may be. "Sweet Blasphemy", rolled on along with other memorable tunes such as "Children Surrender", "Beautiful Remains", and top notches "Knives and Pens", with "Perfect Weapon" rounding off the entire night's set list.

This was the night of battle and now we know who has walked away with pride in their hands and in their hearts, taking the world entirely by storm in one single gust.
