Finnish progressive death metal supergroup, BARREN EARTH, have released the brand new single and video for "The Ruby", taken off their upcoming album, "A Complex Of Cages", which will be released on March 30, 2018 via CENTURY MEDIA RECORDS!

Singer Jón Aldará comments, "This song concerns the inability to feel empathy for others or to care about the effects of one’s actions. It is seen through the mind of a person who is locked inside that isolating condition, while still wishing to fit into society and connect with others. In this instance, the ruby is a metaphor for an unliving, impenetrable heart. With the video, Vesa has tried to capture a quite simplistic, closed-in feeling to represent the concept of the song, but at the same time used the classic "band playing" format, since this the closest thing to a straightforward rocker that Barren Earth has ever made."

Finnish progressive death metal supergroup, BARREN EARTH, have released the brand new single "Withdrawal", taken off their upcoming album "A Complex Of Cages", which will be released on March 30th 2018 via Century Media Records.

Vocalist Jón Aldará comments, "Withdrawal moves Barren Earth into previously unexplored territory, making it an unorthodox album closer, but one that makes complete sense to us. It is the song that inspired the album title, and it's theme of social anxiety is the glue which binds the songs together, lyrically."

Drummer Marko Tarvonen adds, "Barren Earth was always heavily categorized as death metal or prog for mixing those two influences. With Withdrawal we wanted to do something that is neither. Instead this song is a slowly growing rock ballad where the instrumentation has been kept minimal giving most room for Jón's voice. It's the ballad that Scorpions or King Crimson never did!"

Finnish progressive death metal supergroup, BARREN EARTH, have released the brand new single “Further Down”, taken off their upcoming album “A Complex Of Cages”, out via Century Media Records on March 30th 2018!

Vocalist Jón Aldará comments, "For me, this truly feels like a transcendental album for us. The songwriting dynamics have changed quite drastically since ‘On Lonely Towers’, and even though every song is quite unmistakably Barren Earth, the album as a whole brings us towards something stranger.

Lyrically, the album follows a theme that fits the instability of the music, namely the isolating aspect of suffering from different mental issues such as manic depression, psychopathy and agoraphobia.”

Bassist Oppu adds, "Like Barren Earth's previous works, the album's material varies from straightforward standards to experimental opuses. Still, the red line is there, and every song asserts its place in the whole. Brutal death metal, artsy prog rock, pompous melodies with dozens of layers... This music has been crafted without any external pressure, radiating utter spiritual liberation.

Production-wise I see ‘A Complex of Cages’ as an improved version of Barren Earth, thanks to V.Santura, who supervised the album making process and let us concentrate solely on composing, arranging and performing."

Finnish progressive death metal outfit BARREN EARTH, now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará, have just launched the title track of their highly awaited upcoming third full-length. The album will be entitled "On Lonely Towers" and will be released via Century Media Records on March 30th, 2015 in Europe and March 24th, 2015 in North America.

Bassist Olli-Pekka Laine comments: "During the writing process of the album, we did many things from a totally new perspective. If there ever was a certain pattern in a basic Barren Earth song, this time we consciously tried to think things differently. Many other things changed too, some of them unintentionally, some of them willfully. A new production team, a new front man, a new record label... The list goes on.

With the first song representing the album, we make no exception. Instead of putting out a song in a typical verse-chorus form, we thought that this 3-piece boulder would stand for the album better. It demands some concentration from the listener, but patience is rewarded in the end! So there you are, the title track of the upcoming album, On Lonely Towers."

Vocalist Jón Aldará adds: "On Lonely Towers can be considered a centrepiece of the album concept; stringing together the different storylines from the other songs, uniting the main characters and finally bringing a sense of hope to their struggles. It is also the song which inspired Travis Smiths beautifully crafted album cover."

"On Lonely Towers" was mixed by Petri Majuri and mastered by Tony Lindgren at Fascination Street Studios. The artwork was created by no other than Travis Smith.

BARREN EARTH managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums: Their debut "Curse Of The Red River" (2010) and its follow-up "The Devil's Resolve" (2012) have already solidified the band as one of the most promising upcoming acts of the genre and now they are at the ready to release another milestone in their career, taking the experimentation and heaviness to even further heights.

Century Media Records are proud to announce the signing of BARREN EARTH!

Combining elements of modern and traditional death metal with 70's prog rock and folk, originally Finnish progressive death metal outfit BARREN EARTH, now reinforced by Faroese native lead singer Jón Aldará, managed to build up an excellent reputation with only two albums. Their debut "Curse Of The Red River" (2010) and its follow-up "The Devil's Resolve" (2012) have already solidified the band as one of the most promising upcoming acts of the genre and now they are at the ready to release another milestone in their career, taking the experimentation and heaviness to even further heights.

The band comments:

"It's the middle of a long, dark and cold winter here in Finland, however there's no limit to our excitement as the future looks really bright today!  We have a new set of music about to be released, having worked our asses off to create not just another album but a piece of real substance and weight in a world of cheap thrills and quickly forgotten gimmicks. We really poured our hearts and souls on this one and it's by far our best work yet.

For this most important release in our career, it was obvious we should only be partnering with the best possible label - nothing less than the mighty Century Media. We truly feel we could not be in better hands. This is where we want to be, the stars are aligned and all the ducks are in a row - 2015 is going to be the biggest year ever for BARREN EARTH!"

Jens Prüter, Head Of A&R Century Media Europe comments:

"I still remember hearing the early Barren Earth demos six years ago in November 2008.  We all liked it but one reason or another we were not then able to sign them. Fail. These fine gentlemen from Finland have now created and developed into a serious force in progressive death/doom metal. The band had progressed into one of the most interesting bands of the genre - mainly because they go beyond the boundaries of any genre and create a dark world of their own. It takes a while to fully get into their sound universe, but that's what I like even more in our short-lived time. I'm sure the new album will be a timeless classic and I want to thank Barren Earth for knocking at our door again."

BARREN EARTH recently finished the recordings for their third studio album which is scheduled to be released in early 2015. Details on that will be released shortly.
