Valfreya Talks of Current Releases and the Writing Process for the Next Album!

Viking metal band VALFREYA have not one but four albums released, with more music in the works! The next thing is nothing but this next album a metal album and the writing process has begun! The band talks about their content and all the work coming together for this metal album release to come!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band Valfreya was created by Corinne Cardinal (Singer) back in 2009: Daniel Simard (Guitar) joined the band at the end of 2009. They are the only remaining originals members of the band in the actual line up. Other actual members are Érik Grenier (Guitar), Maude Théberge (Violin), Anis (Bass) and Jérémy Racine (Drums).

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Valfreya is actually a two words combination wich mix Valkyries and the Goddess Freya together.  Both are from the Norse mythology.

 3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Most of the band members are located in Montreal and surroundings. The scene out here is full of resources regarding Metal from several genres.  We would definitely recommend other local bands like Beyond Creation, The Agonist and Sanguine Glacialis (Maude’s and Jérémy’s side project.

 4. How would you describe your style?

Nowadays we describe ourselves more as a symphonic Viking metal band.  We could easily include some more wording like folk, melodic and black in order to give justice to our early days.

 5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

There are currently four albums released ; Path to Eternity in 2012 and Promised Land in 2017.  We also made two acoustic albums ; Acoustic Chronicles 1 in 2013 and Acoustic Chronicles 2 in 2019 like our most recent creation.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Of course there is! We got a new Metal album in the works and this one is progressing more than well.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

With the actual Covid situation it is more complicated to see through this concerning playing live but we sure will start again as soon as possible.

 8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

There’s the next Metal album in writing process and a clip coming up in the next weeks taken from a Promised Land song.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to us and buy some merch on, bandcamp, Itunes, as well as Spotify.

 10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We would like people to remember not only our various melodies and blast beats but an epic story told throughout our songs.
