Sweetest Devilry's Jeff One of the Sweetest Guys Around

Melodic technical metal act Sweetest Devilry have written and recorded material releasing it of course and played shows along with toured. These are the guys to keep your eyes on and neck ready because they're here and they're loud! Frontman vocalist and guitarist Jeff Beguigne discusses the band's historic past, present, and future.

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Sweetest Devilry, and how long the band has been together.

Jeff: My name is Jeff, I'm the guitar player and the singer of the band, we started the band 2 years ago.

2. Can I get a backstory on the band/band biography?

Jeff: Since I was 15 years old, I was trying to find all of the musicians for the band. After 3 or 4 years I found all of the guys that I needed. So we recorded one pre-production CD which is available online, signed a deal with Energy Zombie Management, did one tour with Deicide and re-recorded our first CD.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Jeff: My brother the bassist and I live next to Paris and the other guitarist lives in Brest. In general the metal scene in France is great, except that we don't have a lot of help like media compared to other countries but we do have a plenty of great bands. I really like this one band called Celeste. I also like this band Nightshade they are probably one of the most talented bands of their kind in France. Another band is Chabtan, they had a bit of Chimaira in their sound. I met them for the first time during the Immolation tour, they were all a bunch of cool guys!

4. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Jeff: A few years ago I was trying to find a good name for the band. A lot of papers with tons of names I had written down, that I finally choose our actual name by listening to a Cradle of Filth album. One of their songs called "Sweetest Maleficia" stuck. I just took a synonym for the second word changing it to Devilry and for me that was the best name, because it meant everything to us, the lyrics, the philosophy, living etc.

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Jeff: During the composition process of the first CD, I would say that the top 4 would be Panteria, Lamb Of God, Children Of Bodom, and Decapitated. But of course I have listened to a lot of bands, right now I had the chance to listen to a lot of amazing music not only metal. I like all kinds of music, the expressions and the art have a lot of influence. It's not just the music and the bands but the preference for the artist who does avant garde music.

6. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Jeff: The lyrics are about the strongest experiences, feelings, anxieties, there are no messages in it. Maybe more just for myself it's like morals or something like that but if someone recognizes themselves in the lyrics that's fine by me.

7. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?

Jeff: For the moment there's only the one CD online, we re-recorded that CD and are still waiting for the release date.

8. Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?

Jeff: We have been touring and playing shows having a lot of plans for this year. We've had the chance to play with Deicide and Immolation all over Europe and other places.

9. Do you remember your first show and what was it like?

Jeff: That was everyone's first show, it was stressful and wet!

10. Has Sweetest Devilry ever played in the States or plan to do so in the future?

Jeff: For the moment we don't have any plans for the states but we will see in the future. When the CD comes out we will see about the chances!

11. What made you guys decide to form a band?

Jeff: Just to express myself, to show people who I am with my music. To be able to play in a metal band because it's so cool! Metal is awesome and the community is often like a therapy for me and others.

12. What is it you'd like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Jeff: Good melodic metal that's sincere metal.

13. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?

Jeff: I don't know what to say, we just do something that we love to do, that's fresh? It's melodic, dark, I think that a black metal guy or a death metal guy can appreciate our music. If you know what I want to mean.

14. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Jeff: Just tour, promote the band and our music, Grow as a band, and as musicians and men and to make more music because it's what we do and we enjoy it!

15. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Jeff: On YouTube, Soundcloud and you can buy our stuff at our Big Cartel site.

16. Any final words of wisdom?

Jeff: Thank you for the interview and thank you to all of our fans for the support everyday and see you on the road!
