Mote Discusses Music and More!

Rock n' roller MOTE has been actively releasing music for sometime now, including recent works with a lot more in-store. A lot is talked about below about music and more.

1. Can you please tell us the history about your band and it's members within?

So I had been making music with bands for many years. I was always involved in the writing, and in many, did all the writing. Things kept not working out with these bands, for one reason or another. So after awhile I just started to think, I know what I want to make, I’m gonna try this on my own. So that’s when Mote began. I’ve been releasing music since 2015.

2. How would you describe your style of choice that you play?

It’s different, but it’s all rock n roll. Rock n roll, is a sort of bastardisation of styles. I love that, that’s how my music feels to me. Lately I’ve been calling it post punk electro, but it’s always evolving.

3. What about the band's name, how did that come into the picture?

Mote came from a nickname my Dad gave me when I was a kid. Once I had split from all these other groups I was working in, I wanted to find something that would embrace my whole life, not just my new music. So Mote feels like who I am, because it is.

4. Which bands would you say influence your music?

Lately I have been obsessed with; Sharon Van Etten, David Bowie, Soccer Mommy, Wolf Alice, Joy Division, and a lot of techno DJ’s like Moderna, and Helena Hauff.

5. When it comes to the writing process what are your songs and lyrics about?

It’s hard to say specifically, because they are all different stories. In general they come from the things I feel, things I struggle with. Emotions that come through me. Sometimes I don’t know what they are about until way later. I suppose how I see the world is involved in all of them to various degrees.

6. What has the band released thus far, how has your content been received by the public and media?

Recently I started working with an Indie Label in London called The Animal Farm. “Industrial Love” is the first release, and I have three more coming out over the next several months. So far it’s been the best response I’ve ever had to my work. I figured it would be, because I feel like I am really getting somewhere with my writing. Though you never know. I’m very grateful people are relating to my work so much.

7. Has the band had the chance to perform live, if so whereabouts and any further plans for more shows or tours?

Yeah, we we’re doing a lot of shows when I lived in the States. I haven’t played live in Berlin because I moved right before the pandemic. We are getting ready to start playing shows here this summer. I’m excited!

8. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Cool, yeah, check us out on Spotify or any other streaming platform you like. Here’s a link:

9. What plans do you have for the future as a band and this year into the next?

We have 3 more songs coming out soon. I honestly think they are the best I’ve ever been a part of, so I’m really stoked to share them. We are going to start doing some live work in Europe and hopefully will be playing festivals next summer.

10. Would you like to add on or say anything else?

I’d just like to say thanks for having me. Thanks for checking out the music, and much love to everyone out there. Catch you later.
