Tear Out The Heart have come a long way since releasing their debut EP releases and later getting signed to record label, Victory Records, releasing their debut full-length "Violence" and follow-up album "Dead, Everywhere". The band finds themselves to have grown and matured as people and musicians. Frontman vocalist Tyler Konersman discusses their follow-up album and plans in-store.


1. Can you discuss the songs you've released off this album, and videos for "I've Got Secrets" and  'Feel Real"? Why were these chosen as singles and videos?

Tyler: "Feel Real" just seemed like a good natural progression from our first record and also a good representation of "Dead, Everywhere" as a whole. "I've Got Secrets" has the hook haha I mean it just screams "Single" so it was also an obvious first choice.

2. What was the recording process like this time around? Was there anything different that happened or was it the same old studio thing?

Tyler: The recording process was EXTREMELY long and extensive. Honestly, it almost broke our band up on several occasions. We just cared so much that eventually we strangled all the fun out of it. We had to step back for a minute and clear out heads. Once we did that, we returned to the studio to finish what we started and it was a much more healthy working environment. In the end, we're very proud of the end product but it was a bitch to get us there.

 3. How does "Dead, Everywhere" vary from past work?

Tyler: It just has more to offer the listeners. Theres something on the album for everyone. Its dark. It's moody. It's heavy. Its catchy. Its the real deal.

4. Has anything happened since your previous works, that you feel will influence the mood or lyrical content, on this release?

Tyler: The music industry as a whole has definitely left me feeling jaded haha. So i draw a lot of inspiration from my experiences with that, as well as dealing with growing up back in our hometown of St. Louis. Its a record about overcoming your demons and accepting who you are as person. Its a record about growing up and empowerment.

5. How does the album art relate to the music on the album?

Tyler: The whole album is about taking a stand and overcoming your past. The album artwork represents empowerment, the foot being your future and the masked villain being your past.

6. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album?

Tyler: It's darker, that's for sure. The record definitely has a vibe, which is awesome. All of my favorite records have a general feel to them that haunts you. Something you can't get out of your head.

7. Do you think this album differs, compares, or has evolved in any way from your previous works?

Tyler: We've grown up a lot over the past year or so. A great deal amount was lost. We learned from our mistakes. Its a good progression from "Violence" because you can tell we've been through a lot of shit as a band.

8. Who did the cover art for "Dead, Everywhere" and how much input did you have on it?

Tyler: I actually did haha. Myself and a friend of mine Alex Flett just went out and started snapping pictures from a concept I had. Our Tour manager Brad is actually the masked guy on the cover too.

9. Who produced "Dead, Everywhere" and what was it like working with them?

Tyler: Caleb Shomo (Beartooth, Attack Attack!) produced the album, and its always a pleasure working with him. He also produced our first album "Violence" as well, so the chemistry was already there. We were way more comfortable with each other this time around and it shows on the album.

10. Is there any story or concept behind the "Dead, Everywhere" title?

Tyler: The title of the record is actually the title to the first track on the album. I wrote it with a more spoken word vibe in mind and we decided to run with it.

11. What does "Dead, Everywhere" mean to you all?

Tyler: "Dead, Everywhere" basically means that at any given moment you have the chance to play the hero or the villain, and as we grow up we learn to distinguish the two and make the right choices. We no longer hide who are, therefore we no longer dead INSIDE we're dead EVERYWHERE.

12. What are the expectations for this album?

Tyler: I try not to worry about shit like that anymore. I just want to get the music out there to as many people as humanly possible and have a smile on my face while doing that.

13. What does the band have planned for this year?

Tyler: Touring. Lots and lots of touring haha we're ready to get ourselves busy!

14. Any last words for the friends and fans out there?

Tyler: If you like what we do, LEGALLY pick up the new album. You have no idea how bad pirating hurts young bands like us. Support us and we'll continue to do what we're doing!

Taking place only two years later, the sophomore follow-up release to "Violence" released in 2013 was a solid debut effort. But will the follow-up release called "Dead, Everywhere" live up to its previous hype? Tear Out The Heart think so and have released an album that is indeed potential quality. "Feel Real", "I've Got Secrets", are played back to back as well as released back to back well a few weeks apart but still you get it right? Anyway aside from the talking opening the title track "Dead, Everywhere", these other two are again the leading set of singles off this release, they are the right choices to go with here. They bring up that intensity, have the fast instrumentals, vocals are aggressive, brutal, and know you're listening.

"Damage Control", is the next song after the singles have played their part, now this song is a step up from the previous. It consists of more brutality and intensity, more vocals that really pull at you, with fast instrumentals, guitar riffs, drum beats, breakdowns, it's just all there and it all fits in so perfectly. "The Rejected" and "Breaking Through", tend to be the ballad type of songs offered here. They still maintain that intensity while bringing in a more mellowed tone of beat, having more catchy chorus, vocals, and instrumentals that sooth the listener while still entertaining them.  The songs selected here are one's that stand out the most upon this release, really pleases.


All in all Tear Out The Heart's sophomore efforts "Dead, Everywhere", is another solid piece of work. If you enjoyed their debut release then this one should get you through the tunes, no problem, indicating a time of maturity and enhancement.

Tear Out The Heart are a 5-piece metalcore band who hail from St. Louis, Missouri. Since their inception a little under 2 years ago, Tear Out The Heart have pushed and fought there way from the bottom of the local music pile typifying that sort of tenacity that is required in today’s scene in order to ‘make it’.

While they left St. Louis with little change in their pocket, it was their appetite for success and desire to succeed that ultimately paved the way for their signing to Victory Records. Flying the metalcore flag in the name of “to get our music heard to as many people as humanly possible”, it’s this type of attitude that immediately sets them apart from the throes of others looking for that ‘quick win’.

Now two releases later Tear Out The Heart have got a lot going for them so there is no stopping them now. Bassist Isaac Etter, discusses their latest album "Violence".


1. How do you think being in LA changes your sound?

Isaac: Currently we aren't based in LA. We wrote the majority of our new album "Violence" in our hometown of St. Louis MO.

2. Were you satisfied with how everything turned out with this album?

Isaac: The album has exceeded my expectations in every way. While you're writing and recording you never quite know how it's going to play but after that first listen through we were all blown away with how it turned out.

3. Was there anything that didn't make the cut on this album, that we could possibly see in the future?

Isaac: We only cut one song and that was because it didn't quite fit with the others. We only demoed it so there's no chance of releasing that song but it was so different I don't think we would have released it anyway.

4. How does your EP "Hell Is Empty" and your full-length "Violence" differ and compare to one another?

Isaac: "Violence" is more how we wanted "Hell Is Empty" to sound. When we wrote it our drummer Matt and I had just joined so we were still getting used to how we write together. That and trying to cram all of our ideas into 4 songs is never really an ideal way to write. While we still all like "Hell is Empty" our new album "Violence" is a much more complete and fulfilling album.

5. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this album?

Isaac: We just wanted to make the best album we possibly could and make it be something we'd all be proud of and want to listen to if it wasn't our band.

6. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

Isaac: There's only thing that's really different on this album and that's the song "Closure" which is slower, more intimate and uses clean guitars which is something we hadn't done yet on a record.

7. What inspired the album title? Is it a concept album?

Isaac: It's not a concept album per say, but it does touch base with topics that people can relate to. The album is loud, aggressive, and nothing that can be easily ignored, just like Violence.

8. How would you describe the overall sound of the new album?

Isaac: It's really aggressive and never lets up even during choruses or build ups.

9. Did you feel any pressure whatsoever?

Isaac: The only pressure we felt was the pressure we put on ourselves to make the best album we could. In my opinion if you don't make music you're not proud of you shouldn't do it and definitely proud of what we did on this album.

10. You shot a video for the song "Infamous Last Words" where did the idea come for the video? Was it something you came up with yourself or was it brought to you?

Isaac: We're all big fans of old horror movies so we tried to bring that vibe to the music video. We worked on the concept with our director Eric Richter and I think it turned out great.

11. What are your expectations for the CD?

Isaac: We just want it to reach as many people as it can and have as many people enjoy it as possible. So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive and we're all super grateful to the people who have heard it and let us know how much they enjoy it so far.

12. What are your upcoming plans for this year?

Isaac: Just a lot of touring and trying to spread our name out there as much as possible. And of course have a great time doing it.


13. What do you hope for in 2013?

Isaac: We just want to play as much as possible and get this album out there.

14. If I were to introduce someone to your music, what would be the song that you think really shows your band sound the best?

Isaac: I think our first single "Infamous Last Words" would be the best song to introduce someone to us. It's got all the best elements of what we do.

Metalcore enthusiasts' Tear Out The Heart released their debut EP "Hell Is Empty" independently before getting signed with Victory Records.  Now that there dream has come true they have set their eyes and minds into what lays ahead as the process has already begun to write and record for their upcoming debut full-length set to be unleashed early next year. Frontman vocalist Tyler Konersman discusses the band's formation, how awesome it is to be signed with a label such as Victory to what ideas they have in-store for their debut.


1. What type of band are you?

Tyler: Yes we are a metal band basically a hardcore band mixed with metal so a metalcore band.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name and how did the band come together?

Tyler: I was just referencing the band's who were influencing me at the time so we were kicking around idea's for a name. The band's name is a reference to this other band we had grew up listening to. So we found a name that wasn't being used so we wanted our own name and went with it. For everyone getting together I grew up with the two guitarists so we got around checking out different bands and that's where we met our bassist and drummer and we just hung out and it started from there.

3. Congrats on getting signed to Victory Records how does it make you feel?

Tyler: It's awesome everyone at Victory is very understanding of what we wanted to do, how our music works the direction we want it to go, it's just really cool with such a strong name and a lot of other labels don't have much to offer so we feel comfortable with them backing us up.

4. Now that you're signed you plan to begin working on your debut album have any ideas as to how you want it to turn out or nothing is set in stone?

Tyler: We have tons of ideas and our last EP we recorded independently and a lot of the ideas didn't make it. It was something we wanted to do with a full-length but we couldn't do it. But it's safe to say we have a lot of ideas and demos to keep everyone occupied.

5. What are your dreams and goals?

Tyler: Definitely tour the world, seeing other countries and places getting to play with the bigger names and bands we look up too like As I Lay Dying would be awesome. Just to get our vision and music heard as much as possible.

6. Talk to me about your  EP "Hell Is Empty" where did the title come from?

Tyler: The title of the EP is called "Hell Is Empty" and a reference to William Shakespeare and how he talks about the devils and how they're here and how everything can change in a matter of minutes. We wanted to pin point a destiny and how you can live it and not have others preach to you just believe in what you believe in. Just ignore all of the negatives and think positive focusing upon you and your lifestyle.

7. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Tyler: I'm a very angry dude and that's my time to vent and it can get intense and I can say anything when it comes to the subject matter. A lot of the relationships I've developed since I was a kid, being let down, disappointment, a lot of it deals with that and living your life for yourself.

8. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Tyler: All of our music is original and Josh our guitarist demo's it all then he sends it back and forth and gives our inputs and adjustments and when it gets closer to compellations I take over and listen to it again and again and write the lyrics and the mood of it. After that we get into a room and an idea is built for the structure of it and make the changes until the song comes together and everyone's influences comes together.

9. Who are your musical influences?

Tyler: We all grew up with different backgrounds and all of us like As I Lay Dying, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson a lot of dark inspiration and I myself am into the post hardcore, punk rock, fast paced thing so we blend those elements of dark and creepy but intense and fast.

10. What inspires you to do what you do?

Tyler: Honestly it's a little bit of everyone and see other's doing it. I would do this differently or how I would change it. I just go and do it rather than complain about it. I do it the way how I envision it.

11. What advice would you give to fellow bands?

Tyler: Help your music scene by not being negative towards other bands out there. I believe in karma and that it can happen good or bad so you just got to go with it. Like if you're on the road and do a show with just 10 people it doesn't matter because when you come back there will be more because your name will get out there. Also it has to do a lot with man power and networking just getting the music out there one way or another.  There isn't any other way of doing it but good old fashion hard work.

12. What are the biggest obstacles for bands?

Tyler: That there are too many bands it's a competition out there and sometime's not very friendly. The internet is one of those things that's a good source to find out what others are doing. But there is so much going on that everyone falls apart. But you just gota find your own thing separating yourselves from everyone else going beyond the limits offering much more that turns out to be true but unique than the rest of the bands out there.


13. How did you sell your CD’s/Audio Files and where can people check out your music?

Tyler: We are on Spotify and iTunes for now. So we know that since getting signed with Victory was going be a huge thing for us and help us reach more audience's we knew this was it. We do still have some physical copies of our EP available at shows but the best way to reach out to the people is through social media just keeping things interesting and updated for everyone that cares.

14. What else can we expect to see from you guys for this year?

Tyler: We will be entering the studio to record our debut full-length this fall which we're excited about. The time means a lot to us and it's our job to get our vision out there while in that studio and the process is just beginning. After that we'll be releasing it early next year then just touring to support it and get our music and name be heard.

Victory Records has announced the signing of St. Louis, Missouri’s metalcore outfit, TEAR OUT THE HEART.  Watch the announcement video HERE.
