Christian alternative rock artist Éowyn, has been at it for close to 20 years now, releasing what is her sixth full-length album titled "Just Believe". This time around, see's the album come following the release of her back to back albums "Beautiful Ashes" and "Silent Screams", released sometime ago. One of which seeing a tenth anniversary celebration of sorts, Éowyn plans to do in the comfort of her home. But besides that, she has also many plans to come from this album "Just Believe". releasing a single from it called "Drenched", with more to follow. Along with adding to her bible study release "For The Life Of Me", having a "mini" bible study of videos for this album's content of sources. Much more will come in time, just need to be set up with the proper planning and timing of everything else. Éowyn herself goes into discussion about this album, single, and everything else thrown in-between of course!


1. Back in 2010 then that following year in 2011, were the first and second times, interviewing Eowyn, so what have you been up to since those times way back when?

Gosh, has it really been that long!? A ton really! I went back to school and got a second degree, I worked at a commercial architecture firm as an interior designer, My husband and I moved from Nashville to the DC area. I currently work as a graphic designer at my church, Expectation Church, and sing on the worship team there. Musically I wrote and released a bible study and new song called For the Life of Me and released my version of O Holy Night a few years ago. Finally a Christmas song! And this year I began writing and recording a NEW and 6th album which I am about to release on December 3rd called, JUST BELIEVE.

2. How does it feel to be doing interview number three with me, even though it's been an lengthy amount of time between the last set?

I love that you are always one of the first who ask! I feel like we should be best friends by now, don't you? Although I don't know enough about you. I'm thinking I should shoot you a few questions out there. :) Seriously though, I appreciate you so much! Anyone who is willing to spread the word for me is such a blessing! Thank you!

During those set of interviews, talk of your albums "Silent Screams" and "Beautiful Ashes", were discussed, but can you disclose the discography of these releases; according to you website, it says "Silent Screams" is your fourth album, with "Beautiful Ashes" being the fifth, BUT Wikipedia says, "SS" is the third with "BA" as the fourth, along with listing some other albums, of "Shattered illusions" (2003) and "Identity" (2006), which is which with these releases, including your all new album "Just Believe"?

Wikipedia doesn't list my very first album, "ONE MORE CHANCE". That album I kind of hide, but ironically it really helped launch me into the industry. I actually had a few AC radio singles off of it. Can you believe that? So the order is the following: "One More Chance", "Shattered Illusions", "Identity", "Silent Screams", "Beautiful Ashes" and "Just Believe".

4. Aside for those array of releases, you also released a "Bible Study book And CD" titled "For The Life Of Me", why go this route of content, and what is this book and CD all about? Will there be a follow-up bible study book and accompanying CD or just the one set for now? 

When I wrote the bible study, "For the Life of Me", I wasn't touring and I really wanted to have an avenue to still connect with my target audience...those who are in need of hope and encouragement. The bible study is really a few tidbits of my life mixed in with scripture and songs. It goes into some detail about my struggles with insecurities and offers some encouragement to those who may be struggling with them or depression themselves. I'm not sure I will ever do a follow up book, but I know that for this new album I will be doing mini bible study "videos" for each song. They will most likely release one a month starting next year.

5. Let's discuss your new album "Just Believe", talking firstly about the album's artwork, it is a step back from your previous art styles slightly is it not? Can you describe it for us in greater detail.

The simpler design was deliberate and actually took me a long time. I kept removing things that didn't need to be there. So I wouldn't call it a step back, just me trying to focus on what mattered. All of my other albums had huge themes behind them and I wanted to convey that through the artwork. For instance, Beautiful Ashes had to have ashes right? :) But Just Believe, stylistically, is simply more stripped down and I felt the title was more self explanatory. I didn't want to cover up the meaning with too much fluff. The two images of myself are simply the front one showing outward struggle and then the faded one behind showing me looking up, conveying the need to align my emotions internally and JUST BELIEVE.

6. What about the title choice of "Just Believe", does it have a meaning behind its namesake?

Absolutely! Before I even began writing the album I began praying about the theme of it. All of my albums start with a theme. Every time I prayed about this one I kept feeling like the Lord was telling me to believe everything he had already shown me in past years and albums. As song after song started to come together I kept trying to come up with a really clever title. I have always been drawn to what I would call a juxtaposition of words. For instance, "Silent Screams" and Beautiful Ashes. How can screams be silent or ashes beautiful? But once I wrote the piano ballad for this album, Believe, I knew that the title had to stay on point with my overall theme... believe He wants to move in my life, believe in who He says He is, believe in my worth, believe in His love, believe if He has called me to do something He will make a way, believe how POWERFUL He is and how He is my hero every step of the way. Through it all...He wanted me and really ALL OF US to JUST BELIEVE HIM.

7. If you had to compare this album, to your assortment of other releases, how would you compare and contrast them all? 

All of them lyrically are emotional and honest to what I was going through at the time of writing them. All of them are meant to give the listener hope and point them to my loving Savior, Jesus. Just Believe in my opinion represents my best vocals. I don't mean that to sound prideful, because I know regardless of how I sing, some people may never like my "tone." But I wanted this album to really show that I could vocally do more then I had done in past albums. I have a really strong falsetto that most people don't know about, so several of these songs showcase that as well as some of my breathier tones. Stylistically, "JUST BELIEVE" is more alternative/pop then a few of the others, especially Silent Screams and Beautiful Ashes. But that was because this was supposed to be my "acoustic" album. I guess this is my version of acoustic rock. :) It's probably more of an alternative pop.

8. You will be releasing this album at the end of this year, so does the 2019 year, already have plans set-up?

I don't have concrete plans. I feel like I am more relaxed on the timing surrounding this album on everything. I did just release my first radio single, "DRENCHED" to Christian radio. To help promote the new song, I also launched a lyric video last week which people can find here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGZUIG1KxTE.

I will be releasing several more singles to radio in 2019 and most likely a few videos to go along with them too. One of the things I am really excited about is pushing a song called, "SET FREE".  Not only do I love the lyrical content of this song, but I also love that it highlights an extremely talented vocalist and friend, Nikko Custodio. He even raps on it! I have always wanted one of my songs to have a rap moment. The only other set plan I have is what I mentioned earlier...to release the mini bible study videos throughout the year.

9. When can we expect to see Eowyn going on a full fledged tour across the U.S.?

I would love to do a show here and there and also tour a few weeks in 2019 but there are no set plans as of now. When the booking requests started coming in these past few weeks, we realized we had to really look at the possibilities and see how feasible that actually was for us to do again. I think if a tour happens, it will be dependent on how we can work that around our current jobs that we absolutely love. 

10. While many may or may not know, your name is Eowyn, named after the Lord of the Rings character of both film and novel, but which way is the proper way to spell it, as "Eowyn" or "Éowyn"?

Éowyn, but even I don't type it out like that most of the time, because I always forget how to add the accent mark. But I always write it with the accent.

11. Come 2019, will mark an even 20 years, for you as the artist Éowyn, plan on celebrating in any shape or form?

Wow, I didn't even realize that. Although it makes since I didn't know, because I am horrible at remembering dates. Honestly, I am more introverted then a lot of people know, so It's unusual for me to plan an event or celebration. My kind of celebrations are truly my husband and I just grabbing some fast food and watching a movie at home. We do that every year for our Anniversary. Maybe we will plan on doing that! :)

12. Will we ever see a "re-release" of your previous albums "Shattered Illusions" and "Identity"?

We actually talked about redoing a few of the older songs, but I'm not sure we ever will.

13. "Silent Screams" see's a tenth anniversary for this year, 2018, were you able to do anything in celebration of it, or plan to in the future?

Another special occasion not on my radar! Haha I didn't even know it was the 10th Anniversary! :) I can't believe how fast time flies! Probably just another night at home with the hubby!

14. Can you ever see you performing any of your releases from front to back, like many other artists and bands have done with their anniversaries or celebrations of content?

I'm not opposed, although I think it would be fun to do the songs completely acoustic, but then I would have to determine which release? I'd rather combine the releases. That way I could choose my favorites from the 62 songs.

15. Would you like to add on or say anything more before wrapping this one up!

Many people find it hard to pinpoint the musical comparisons when it comes to Nashville recording artist Éowyn. Her style is as unique as her name. She's had four top 20 National Christian Rock singles and toured extensively throughout the U.S. sharing various stages with such acts as Thousand Foot Krutch, Seventh Day Slumber, Disciple, among others. Those who have seen her can't get enough while the ones who have heard her are eager for more, but then there are those who get to know her and see a genuine person with a concern in wanting to help those in need.

Her previous release "Silent Screams" (2008) focused on was encouraging those who have been ensnared by depression, anger, loneliness, or insecurities that would have them cry out for help whether it’d be from Jesus Christ or their beloved family or friends whoever was in need for that assistance to help them succeed.

Éowyn poured her heart on this album often at times sounding like she was on the verge of tears herself. She explained that "It breaks my heart to see people hurting. I can't help but cry, because I understand why they're going through, and I truly know how they can be whole again."

Now that three years have passed her follow-up release "Beautiful Ashes", is filled with an industrial blend of electronics, strings, and pounding guitars which captures those heartfelt ballads to those chanting anthems of suppression. Lyrically and vocally stunning this is by far one of Éowyn’s best albums to date. It captures an essence that was present on past albums while keeping a key component that's both industrial, rocks, pops, and adds a dash of heavy metal brutality - that fans can appreciate like never before.

Éowyn declares that she is indeed back and describes it as "Only by God's grace" adding that "I think people will see the same but also a new artist with this album. I feel being out of the industry for two years really brought me back to the true meaning of why I do what I do."

1. "Beautiful Ashes" is your newest album to date what comes to mind?

Éowyn: Stylistically it's not as dark as my last album "Silent Screams". "Silent Screams was encouraging the listener to run to God in the midst of depression and pain.”Beautiful Ashes" is all about the hope found on the other side of the tragedy and pain. No matter what devastation a person finds themselves in, I wanted the listener to know that God wants to restore them and their situations that they might be beautiful once again.

2. What is the significance of "Beautiful Ashes" to you on a personal level?

Éowyn: In 2008, I was forced to leave the ministry due to financial difficulties. My husband and I began selling everything that had to do with music. It felt as if everything we had taken so long to build up had burned to ash in a matter of minutes. I walked away burned and beaten. But then over the next 2 years, God started filling my heart with hope again and showing me the beauty that still remained. He began to build my faith and as I allowed him to do so I began to see my ministry built up again and made new.


 3. How about the title "Beautiful Ashes" were ashes suppose to be beautiful? I thought ashes were black and filled with lifeless meaning.

Éowyn: Exactly. :) When we go through a devastation in our lives it can make us feel lifeless, and without meaning. But often times, during those darkest moments are the times we run to God and we feel his presence the most. In the midst of the ash and brokenness, is often where we find our peace. The purpose of the "Beautiful" part is that God wants to take our lifeless situations and make them beautiful again. He wants to restore those things that have become dead to us. He wants to heal those hurts that have scarred us.

4. What’s your favorite song on the new record?

Éowyn: I love the title track "Beautiful Ashes" but I also love the song "Fail-Safe". It was the last song that I wrote for the album but quickly became one of my favorites. In the dictionary it states that Fail-Safe means “Guaranteed not to fail, free from danger or risk.”  While people can obviously fail us at times, God never does.

5. During our last interview I had asked you if you use the same band while you’re on the road you had answered no. Have you managed to find a solid group of musicians or not yet?

Éowyn: Since we last spoke I have all new musicians. After taking such a long break from the road all my past musicians had moved on to other things. They are missed, but my current musicians are equally amazing! I have always been blessed to have some of the most amazing players out there!

6. On "Silent Screams" you had worked with the band Pillar have you had the chance to hit the road with them or would you ever consider doing so?

Éowyn: I would most definitely consider going out with them! That's a great idea for a tour. We should definitely call them up. :)

7. Can you give us some insight on the music video for the title track?

Éowyn: Well, it was definitely a family project. My husband built the set and he and I designed it, my sister actually is playing the leading role and my niece is also one of the characters. The whole video is about my sister finding herself in devastating situations, but by the end of the video there is a hopeful resolution to all of them. She will have a "past" devastation revealed (something from her childhood), a "relationship" devastation and a "dream" devastation. That's all the clues I can give for now!  I will reveal that my favorite scene was when we got to have "ash" falling around us. It was very fun to shoot.

8. What about your website eowynmusic.com you had it themed to your previous release and now have it themed with your new release. Is that the way it will always be whenever a new album comes about?

Éowyn: I am always about themes!  Every album I have ever done was focused around a central theme and then I carried it over to all artwork, websites, and even the live show. Even in our new live show fans can expect to see ourselves covered in ash. When I get an idea or vision for something I like to be repetitive with it so that it really sinks in for the viewer or listener.

9. Some people consider Éowyn mainstream rock, while others think of you as the coolest Christian band out there. Do you consider the label, “Christian rock” a curse?

Éowyn: Not at all, I am a Christian who sings rock music. Whether or not someone wants to call it mainstream or Christian Rock doesn't matter to me as long as they know I love the Lord and I am spreading the message of his love. The label doesn't define who I am. God does.

10. Does the band ever get criticized for not being Christian enough?

Éowyn: I think the only time I have ever gotten that kind of reaction was when someone didn't take the time to read my blogs about my faith, or they didn't listen to my message while I was on stage. I have always been very blunt about my faith, but sometimes people may judge the way I look before they actually listen to what I have to say.


11. How do you respond to those people?

Éowyn: I have to respond in love, but in honesty. I have had a few people be bold enough to question my motives or the way I look and I just lovingly answer their questions and realize that they may never agree with me. Then I have to be okay with that! :)

12. If Jesus walked the Earth today and had an iPod, what five songs would definitely be on it?

Éowyn: You know I'm not even so sure. I rarely listen to songs myself, so it's hard to pick 5 that I think he might listen too. :) I can't even pick 5 that I would! Haha

13. What do you think the biggest problem is facing young people today?

Éowyn: Their own insecurities. When a young person doesn't believe in themselves or when they think they have no worth, they tend to withdraw from others and then from God. They can't imagine anyone possibly loving them, so they look to no one. Insecurities then lead to depression, depression then lead to loneliness, loneliness then lead to pain and hurt, which then often leads to suicide.

14. When will you be hitting the road?

Éowyn: My first show back is in May at my CD release party in Nashville, TN. After that there are several shows across the U.S.  No major tour as of now, but they'll be coming.

15. How about the future what does Éowyn have lined up for 2011?

Éowyn: You know, I'm not planning as much this time around. After leaving the industry in 2008 I never even thought I'd be able to return. So now that I have, I'm taking it day by day. I definitely will be doing more shows, the music video will be hitting in April, and we'll be releasing "Beautiful Ashes" to radio, but other than that, there are no set plans. But I can't wait to see what God has in store!

16. Is there anything else you'd like to add or get out into the open?

Éowyn: I'm so excited to announce that my hubby is officially playing keys for me now. I have always wanted him to be on stage with me and in 2011 that is finally happening! In her previous release "Silent Screams" (2008) Éowyn was focused on encouraging those who were ensnared by depression, anger, loneliness, and insecurities that needed to cry out for help from Jesus Christ or family and friends. Éowyn's heart poured upon this album often at times having her at the verge of tears. She explains that “It breaks my heart to see people hurting. I can't help but cry, because I understand what they're going through, and I truly known how they can be whole again."

Now that three years have gone by she looks to "Beautiful Ashes" her follow-up release as her redemption to spirituality and restoring those dreams that may have been lost. She describes the meaning behind the title as follows “The purpose behind this album is to encourage others that God is a restorer of hope, and that He is a restore of dreams. That no matter what devastation has happened in their life and no matter how bad their circumstances seem around the, God wants to bring their situation back to life that it may become beautiful once again."

Éowyn is no stringer to the feelings of loneliness and hopelessness let alone doubt she is well aware of all of these abnormal feelings. 2008 saw her in utter despair forcing her to sell everything that dealt with her musical career announcing her departure from the industry it was quite devastating. She says that "I was devastated and to be perfectly honest, didn't know what to do or think. I questioned why God would allow this in my life, I felt as if everything that God had built up over the years has been reduced to rubble and ruins. But over the next 2 years, God began to rebuild my faith and slowly my hope returned as I turned all that I had over to Him. He began t show me the beauty that still lingered amidst the ashes."

The title track sets the album up building a solid ground for what lays ahead. The guitars are heavy yet softened by the calm melodies of Éowyn’s vocal presences, her raw emotional context really providing that adrenaline rush that keeps the music in-depth and alive. "Dreams", is a ballad tune that is offered that expresses a deeper progression than most ballad type tunes. "Alive", has that electronic tone written all over it with the pounding beats of the guitar Éowyn overpowers the music altogether.

"The Music Box", does precisely what it’s called, it has its music box tone that lingers for 10 seconds then fades away allowing the strings to do their thing but soon finds its way back into the moment. Éowyn vocal attics layering along the top this form being used several times before fading to rest.

"Beautiful Ashes" takes what we already know of Éowyn but enlightens it bringing back a meaning of why she does what she's known to do.

Christianity never felt so....heavy? While the Christian religion as any other religion has dealt with the belief of loving and believing in God as well as his son Jesus Christ. By enforcing these believes into the form of music anything is possible whether it'd be smooth sailing on the waves of jazz or swaying back and forth to the ways of rock n' roll. But in this particular case we deal with the heavier side of music, introducing a more in-depth appeal to the likes of the underworld, the goddess of the night, Éowyn.

Her name should be quite familiar to those of you are who may be suck in the fantasy realm, for her name is named after a character from the "Lord of the Rings" books and films. Her dad was a huge fan of this series as many others have become over the course of time. Éowyn goes into saying that people always approach her asking her if it is indeed her real name, and it truly is.

Since the age of 19, Éowyn has been engulfed by the styles and sounds of music writing and creating her own material, going through not just one but a total of three albums whilst in the process; "Identity" (2006), "Shattered Illusions" (2004), and "Silent Screams" (2008). Whilst her latest album "Silent Screams", focus's to encourage the ones who have dealt with the insanity of depression, anger, and loneliness, or facing the insecurities to wanting to cry out for help. Éowyn goes into explaining that "It breaks my heart to see people hurting. I can't help but cry, because I understand what they’re going through, and I truly know how they can be whole again."

There are of course many types of “Christian Musicians" within our world trying to minimize their own role of what Christianity means to them in terms of music or the public image. It’s quite refreshing to find someone such as Éowyn who manages to create not only her own sense of style and music but build upon her own beliefs. Like she says "I hope my audience will be pulled into a deeper more honest relationship with God. Sometimes I think we try to hide from God and others what we are truly feeling, but the truth is, He already knows. The beauty is he already cares!"

1. Tell me about growing up in Nashville, have you heard of a town called Jacksboro - that’s where my Boyfriend grew up before moving out to Los Angeles.

Éowyn: I actually haven't heard of Jacksboro, although I haven't lived in Nashville that long. I mainly grew up in Kentucky and Alabama, which is where I got my strong southern accent! :) My husband and I moved to Nashville 4 years ago, but I've wanted to move here for a long time. I love this city. There are so many amazing, diverse people here. Where I live you can literally walk out your door and see cows, and then a few miles later you are surrounded by tons of shopping stores.

2. What’s your newest album "Silent Screams" all about?

Éowyn: "Silent Screams" focus was really to try to encourage people to ask for help. It centers on the concept that a lot of us walk around in our pain and insecurities and yet we never actually deal with them. Instead we bury our feelings and in turn end up feeling alone and abandoned. My hope for “Silent Screams” was to encourage people to cry out to others but especially to cry out to God.



3. Is you’re touring band the same band you used on your album "Silent Screams"?

Éowyn: No, although I have always had amazing players touring with me on the road, they can change from year to year. At the time of recording "Silent Screams" I had been off the road for a year so I had not yet put together a group of guys who would be touring with me. The musicians used on the album were mostly from a band called "Pillar". It was actually a dream of mine to get to work with them and it happened -the producer I was working with knew them so he talked to them about coming in the studio.

4. When and where do you go when you write?

Éowyn: I guess there is really no set time when I like to write, but I do like it to be away from everyone. I even kick my husband out of the house or make sure he's asleep so he can't hear me while I write. The only real reason I can give for doing this is that I get embarrassed for people to hear me. I make a lot of "noise" as I like to call it as I try to work out all the ins and outs of the song. My lyrics can also sound like a lot of mumbo jumbo at first.

5. What's your favorite song from the album and why?

Éowyn: I think my favorite song changes from month to month. I always write what I am feeling personally, so my favorite song also tends to change with what I need to hear or what I am feeling on a particular day. Currently, the one that I would say is my favorite today is "Saving Grace." Basically this song talks about how when everything in your life is in shambles, God is still there to save you. We have to make a lot of decisions right now concerning the direction of the music and I constantly have to remind myself that no matter what is going on, God is there and He is my saving grace.

6. How long did it take Éowyn to get inked to a record deal?

Éowyn: I actually don't have a record label. I have been offered three over the last several years but after praying about it, felt they were not the best fit. My goal has never been to "ink" a deal. I'm not against labels, but I'm also not against being an "indie". So whatever the future hold is okay with me. It's actually awesome to see the doors that God has opened even without having label. I have been told many times in my career that "this or that" can't happen without having a label. I always feel "this or that" can't happen unless God wants it to. :)

7. If you could pick one artist or band alive or dead, past or present to perform with who would it be and why?

Éowyn: I honestly am having a hard time picking one band or artist. I just love to perform and I love being on stage, so honestly it doesn't matter who that's with. Even if it's an act that is totally against what I believe I would want to perform with them as long as I got to share what I believed as well. That way the audience could hear my side of things! :) I know I should be saying a band name right now with the chance that maybe they'd read it and then let me share the stage with them, right? :) So, I'd like to share the stage with everyone. :) So every band or manager reading this...I’m talking to you.

8. Do you think talking about spirituality in music is becoming more popular and accepted in mainstream music?

Éowyn: I would say "I hope so!” I'm not sure if it's becoming more popular or that more people are just stepping out to do it. I think the audience wants to be offered a hope and music that has a spiritual meaning does just that.

9. What’s something that would surprise your fans to know about you?

Éowyn: I rarely ever listen to music. I get made fun of all the time for how little I know of music and bands. It's sad I know, but I think I own about 15 CDs and have about 75 downloaded songs. Even when you asked me the question about "which band I would want to perform with" I really had to think about it! :)



10. What do you say to someone who has done the church thing, said all the prayers, fasted, heard all the sermons and yet has never experienced the “Presence of God”?

Éowyn: I would first ask them, have you ever had a point in your life where you asked him to come? Have you ever truly asked Jesus into your life and into your heart? You can do all the "proper" motions of going to church and fasting and praying, but that doesn't mean you "know" Him. Secondly, if they have done that and are not feeling His presence then I would probably ask them "what is in your life that you have been holding onto? He's always there, but often times we feel him more than others. There are months when I say "I don't feel Him at all". When I don't "feel" Him, then I begin to ask myself what is in my life that could be hindering feeling His presence. Often times it could be bitterness, anger, anxiousness, or any other feeling that I have been struggling with that is not from Him. Once we deal with those things, we will feel Him again. :)

11. Why do you suppose that life seems easier for some, and painful for others?

Éowyn: I think all of us struggle. I think all of us go through very painful things. But I really believe that God only allows as much as we can handle. The thing is because of our individual personalities we can each "handle" different things. I also believe that He allows us to go through things to not only mold our character and to form us into who He wants us to be but also to use us to help others. You see, when we go through a death of a loved one, we can then be there for someone else who loses a loved one. If we have struggled with drug additions, but then we are delivered from that, then we can be there and love others who are going through the same thing.

12. Where do you see Éowyn 5 years from now?

Éowyn: I honestly don't know. Where I want to be is still out ministering to others and sharing God's love. I don't know if that will still be from the stage or not (although I hope it will be) but either way I hope to be doing it on some level.

13. What do you have planned for the future?

Éowyn: It all depends on the funds, but I hope to have a new album by next year. I already have some of the songs written, the album name and music video planned, and I am very excited to share what God has been laying on my heart over the last year and half at home. I want to go overseas soon too for a tour. Other than the music, my husband and I buy and sell antique furniture, so I would love to be still doing that as well. :)
