Experimental pop rockers SONIC MEDICINE have newer music in the works, with a handful of single's out and about already. The just wants to build themselves upwards with a lot more content and more else to follow them. See what their frontman vocalist David Cinnamon discusses on all of this below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band started in 2013 when I linked up with Jim Dejoie (saxophone) through the recommendation of a mutual sound engineer and friend, “Greedy” Greg Williamson.

The concept behind Sonic Medicine expanded quickly, as the music begged for an epic approach. The idea of expanding the ensemble to include a lower bass instrument and higher strings on top of the electric guitar, baritone sax, and live drums, was a vision that both Jim and I shared. Alicia Dejoie came onboard for the electric violin. We then found a wonderful duo on bass guitar and drums in Bowie McLean and Andy Pease for a few years. After cancer took Andy’s life we had to strive to survive as a band. Losing Andy was terrible and we miss him tremendously.

We were fortunate to have Thane Mitchell join us on drums. We’ve benefited from the talent of two other musicians: live support from Jason Lightfoot (electric guitar and electric bass) and studio support from Billy Stover (synth bass and auxiliary keyboard). The music has become so potent and real in the time we’ve put into the music since this began and it’s always evolving.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I’m a luthier. The band’s name comes from the symbol I designed and installed onto the headstock of a guitar I built. I call the symbol the “caduceus clef.” It’s made from the combination of the treble clef symbol, the bass clef symbol (turned sideways), and the caduceus medical symbol. It is meant to be a symbol or sign for Sonic Medicine. This music feels very raw, honest, and cathartic – the name and symbol felt fitting.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re based out of Seattle, Washington. Our scene is alive and kicking, as it has been for many decades! I work as a live sound engineer so I interact with everyone who plays and rely on those connections in many ways!

I could recommend a lot of local bands! There are so many talented friends of mine that play music! I feel so blessed to know so many good musicians and performing acts!

Some of my favorites right now are: Kathy Moore Super Power Trio, Mark Pickerel, Johnny Nails, Final Body, Purple Strange, Secret Caves, The Bouquets, Mandolin Hooper, Githyanki, MTR Project, Buzzfactor, Chong the Nomad, and Katrina Kope.

4. How would you describe your style?

Experimental pop/rock.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

“Reflection’s Ink” is the fourth single from our debut album, Manic State. Listeners can expect cathartic, genre-melding music that’s conceptually bound. The whole discography will be one cohesive work. We hope that our music is as therapeutic for the listener as it is for us to create and perform!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Always! We’re currently releasing each track from Manic State as singles. We’re preparing to record more beyond that as well. Lots of plans for more music!

7. What about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Our next show is at Jules Maes in Seattle on Saturday, July 30th. We’re especially excited  about this one because Andy Stoller (Heart, Tracey Chapman, and more) will be joining us on bass. Check our website at www.sonicmedicine.com for tour updates!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We hope to build and grow and continue to challenge ourselves sonically. We’re also looking forward to getting more shows on the books!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Sonic Medicine is on all digital music sites! CD and vinyl coming soon!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

In life, sometimes people may feel separated from each other, alone, and tested individually. In the past two years, because of the pandemic, this may feel like a more universal condition. Ultimately there remains a fundamental and powerful truth: we are all connected. Everyone and everything affects everything else. We find this truth beautiful, inspiring, and worthy of sonic exaltation.

Elemental band KATHLEEN TUTNER OVERDRIVE has released a couple of EP's, with newer music in the works as well as more plans to play shows if not more so. The band talks about of these releases, show playing, and much more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Kathleen Turner Overdrive is a drum smashing, axe grinding, bass thumping, femme-fronted punk rocking band hailing from Toowoomba, Queensland. Making their debut in 1992 as a three-piece playing punked-up indie covers, KTO retains two original members Lizzard on vox and Mark on guitar, and prove Joe Strummer’s words true, that punk rock isn’t something you grow out of. Punk rock is an attitude, and the essence of that attitude is ‘give us some truth’.  The band played around Toowoomba town for several years before closing shop to accommodate life changes for the band members.

Mark, on bass, continued to write and play and became a mainstay in the Toowoomba originals music scene for the ensuing three decades playing a fusion of punk, funk, folk, and metal in bands such as ‘The Love Beeds’, ‘Therapy of Noise’ and ‘Spyder Grynder’. He currently plays bass as a side-gig in local ‘alt blues’ band, ‘Consenting Adults’.

Danny, on KTO drums and Adz, on KTO bass, have spent the last decade making music in various bands with metal and hard rock being the common thread throughout. Danny is best known for keeping the beat for popular alternative indie rock bands ‘Kasper’ and ‘American Frauds’ in the early 20-teens and for his current gig with glam metal band ‘Snakebite Whiskey’. Adz honoured his metal roots in the early 20-teens playing bass for popular metal covers band ‘Zenith’. Lizzard, who had first started singing in pub bands whilst at university, ended her hiatus from band life in 2011, going on to reform ‘Kathleen Turner Overdrive’ in 2015 with Adz and Mark and the original KTO drummer Mel.

In 2019, KTO recorded a four-track demo EP of songs written by Lizzard, called ‘27’. The title referenced a newspaper article from 1992 which reported on the band’s debut performance at a pub talent competition (which they won). In the article Mel announced that the band would release a cassette of music later that year. That didn’t happen but KTO eventually got around to recording, 27 years later.

Life happens and Mel, who lived in another state, left the band in 2019 before ‘27’ was recorded. With Mel’s departure, local drum legend Darcy Cavenaugh stepped in to provide the beat on the EP.

Danny joined the crew in January 2020 and with a solid line-up of locals, things got humming.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Kathleen Turner was a Hollywood star back in 1992. Her face was everywhere. One day in early ’92, whilst having a beer and musing over possible band names, Mark suggested a fusion between Kathleen and the 1970s Canadian rock band ‘Bachman-Turner Overdrive’. It was such a winner that in the 2000 movie ‘High Fidelity’, Jack Black calls his band by the same name.  After that, annoyingly, the name took off all over the world.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Whilst all members of KTO live and work in Toowoomba, the band travels to the state capital of Brisbane, which is just over an hour away, Ipswich and the Sunshine Coast to play in their active original music scenes. Sadly, our hometown’s growing love of cover bands limits the opportunities for original bands to play shows. The underground music scene in Australia though, especially in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley, is really thriving. Some of Brisbane’s amazing bands include Krave, The Glycereens, Violet, Gutterfire, Consenting Adults, Unsound Advice, The Toxic Garden Gnomes and Hit n Mizz…..

4. How would you describe your style?

We have a pretty eclectic sound because we have such a broad range of influences. When we met Dan he was rocking a skater-punk vibe and really down with the Chillies, Mars Volta, desert stoner rock. These days he has traded his long baseball socks for leopard-print cuban heels and is sporting a Crue-style mullet. Adz is also a Chilli-dog, but loves his metal - from Jinjer to Rammstein to Metallica and back. He is also bald. By choice. Lizzard grew up on a steady diet of Bay City Rollers, Abba and Oz rock but then she discovered punk. Then post-punk. Then New Wave. Then New Romantic. Then Swamp. Needless to say she was ready for Metallica and Nirvana when they arrived! Mark runs the gamut from Lou Reed, Iggy Pop and Bowie, to 70s and 80s UK punk and US hardcore, with anything cleverly melodic in between. How does it come together? Danny brings big, hard-hitting drum beats, Adz brings Maiden-esque bass runs and thick lashings of slap. Mark brings chord-riffs as much inspired by the Troggs and the Kinks as by Aussie garage punk and indie, and Lizzard brings a voice melodic, languid but at times downright dangerous. We don’t know what it is, we just know….we like it!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

In 2019 we released our first locally-produced EP called ‘27’, reflecting the fact that we started this project 27 years previously. While it may have been wanting a bit in production values, it was a good compilation of some new original material that we had been working on. It was especially a great representation of Mark and Lizzard’s capacity to work collaboratively to write songs, and then to present to the rest of the band to add their flair and flavour. You can expect to be challenged in terms of trying to pigeon-hole the music into a neat, safe genre. From a sort of rockabilly-esque romp of ‘Stalker’ with a neat little tapping solo in the bridge and pop culture references, to the anthemic ‘Wonder Woman’ with its homage to the philosophy that great women don’t and shouldn’t have to stand behind anyone, from the calling out of social elites (‘Dementors’) to hypocrisy of local cliques (‘Sycophant City’).

2022 saw us release ‘Autosomal’, a 6-track EP which continued the journey of personal chronicles, social commentary, pop-culture savoir-faire and…? The first single off the EP ‘Unseen’ reflects on the chaotic and (hopefully) redemptive journey through mental illness. ‘Bingpot 19’ borrows from Brooklyn 99 to reflect on the madness that IOHO, is Covid denialism. ‘Corpse Tree’ is Lizzard’s reflection on her experience exploring her family origins, turning geno-detectivism into new family members! ‘Mary Winchester Blue’ pays homage to the hunky demon hunters from ‘Supernatural’ whilst making the point that the energy behind most operations is female and that it can be a tough gig without reprieve, while ‘Wonder Woman’ gets a new lease of life with producer Adam Merker (Anderzderbeerz Studio). Finally we take another, slightly more vicious swipe at social elites in ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and the Wasted’. Still not fitting neatly into a box.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We sure do! We’ve been working on a few songs that we have thrown towards renowned producer…who worked with the Sex Pistols and The Jam, and Aussie legends Screaming Jets - Steve James! He has taken four or our songs to the magic realm of pre-production and come October we will be ready to jump back into the studio and bring these new tunes to life!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

With the release of ‘Autosomal’ KTO has been getting out and playing more. Upcoming gigs include 28 July in Brisbane with iconic Brisbane punk band The Toxic Garden Gnomes and on September 30 at The Brightside for ‘Rock Sisters United 2022’, supporting the dual causes of homelessness and domestic violence. The band flies to Melbourne for a show on October 22 at ‘Whole Lotta Love Bar’.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

For now we just want to keep playing good solid live shows locally and have the odd away show as time and other commitments permit. Also we are  driven to keep writing new material because we all really like the songs that we make and it’s great to see the way everyone is able to contribute to and shape each new song. Eventually they would like to do a tour of sorts maybe in the UK or Europe or even Japan! Who knows where this journey will end up?

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find our EP ‘Autosomal’ on the majority of general streamers - Spotify, iTunes, YouTube, Tidal, iHeart Radio etc. We have also shot  a video clip with local multi-media production company NoOne Network for our debut single ‘Unseen’ which is viewable on YouTube! All the links and more can be found on our Facebook page as well as our new website, this goes for current merch as well, which is also on Bandcamp.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Wow! What great songs! Punk but sort of metal but sort of - I don’t know - their own style!

Italian extreme metallers Cerebral Extinction have released a new video for the track “4 Eyes Of Chaos” in conjunction with the release of their new album ‘Escape From Illusion’, which came out on July 15th 2022.

Speaking about the meaning behind the song, the band have stated:

""4 Eyes of Chaos" is a mask that has a distinct power of chaos for each eye. Secrets are dead. Hidden , buried, outraged. I sink my arms and feel my knuckles rip in the muddy depths. I connect, I blind myself to the giant sleeping black angel. I see through the mask of the 4 eyes of chaos."

Rock n' roller MOTE has been actively releasing music for sometime now, including recent works with a lot more in-store. A lot is talked about below about music and more.

1. Can you please tell us the history about your band and it's members within?

So I had been making music with bands for many years. I was always involved in the writing, and in many, did all the writing. Things kept not working out with these bands, for one reason or another. So after awhile I just started to think, I know what I want to make, I’m gonna try this on my own. So that’s when Mote began. I’ve been releasing music since 2015.

2. How would you describe your style of choice that you play?

It’s different, but it’s all rock n roll. Rock n roll, is a sort of bastardisation of styles. I love that, that’s how my music feels to me. Lately I’ve been calling it post punk electro, but it’s always evolving.

3. What about the band's name, how did that come into the picture?

Mote came from a nickname my Dad gave me when I was a kid. Once I had split from all these other groups I was working in, I wanted to find something that would embrace my whole life, not just my new music. So Mote feels like who I am, because it is.

4. Which bands would you say influence your music?

Lately I have been obsessed with; Sharon Van Etten, David Bowie, Soccer Mommy, Wolf Alice, Joy Division, and a lot of techno DJ’s like Moderna, and Helena Hauff.

5. When it comes to the writing process what are your songs and lyrics about?

It’s hard to say specifically, because they are all different stories. In general they come from the things I feel, things I struggle with. Emotions that come through me. Sometimes I don’t know what they are about until way later. I suppose how I see the world is involved in all of them to various degrees.

6. What has the band released thus far, how has your content been received by the public and media?

Recently I started working with an Indie Label in London called The Animal Farm. “Industrial Love” is the first release, and I have three more coming out over the next several months. So far it’s been the best response I’ve ever had to my work. I figured it would be, because I feel like I am really getting somewhere with my writing. Though you never know. I’m very grateful people are relating to my work so much.

7. Has the band had the chance to perform live, if so whereabouts and any further plans for more shows or tours?

Yeah, we we’re doing a lot of shows when I lived in the States. I haven’t played live in Berlin because I moved right before the pandemic. We are getting ready to start playing shows here this summer. I’m excited!

8. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Cool, yeah, check us out on Spotify or any other streaming platform you like. Here’s a link:

https://open.spotify.com/artist/3fnFaQr5shMn4CFA0wpm7i?si=uholGzhFRy6-CmIGeHMgow

9. What plans do you have for the future as a band and this year into the next?

We have 3 more songs coming out soon. I honestly think they are the best I’ve ever been a part of, so I’m really stoked to share them. We are going to start doing some live work in Europe and hopefully will be playing festivals next summer.

10. Would you like to add on or say anything else?

I’d just like to say thanks for having me. Thanks for checking out the music, and much love to everyone out there. Catch you later.

Indie folk artist MARYSA EVE began their solo career during the pandemic's quarantine in 2020. During this time she has gone on to release a few single's, with a lot more expected in the works and plans to be thought out. See what else is discussed below.

1. Can you please tell us the history about your band and it's members within?

I am an indie folk artist and international horse trainer from Boston. In the past, when I lived in Boston and Philadelphia, I sang in a few alternative rock bands, and a tour choir for 12 years. I began my solo career during quarantine in 2020, when it became impossible to rehearse as a band anymore.

2. How would you describe your style of choice that you play?

I think indie folk captures the sound best. I like each instrument to be easily identifiable to an untrained ear, nothing too modern with layers of technology masking the instruments.

3. What about the band's name, how did that come into the picture?

I just use my first and middle name, Marysa Eve. I like the spelling of my name, as I was named after my great-grandmother Mary. The name Marysa means queen of the sea, which is fitting considering my affinity for the ocean.

4. Which bands would you say influence your music?

Florence and the Machine has been my longest inspiration since the release of her first debut album in 2009. The unique instrumentation and choral background texture in each song is so moving. Additionally, bands such as Rainbow Kitten Surprise, the Lumineers, and the Head and the Heart that combine heartfelt lyrics with a folk rock sound are also heavy influences for me.

5. When it comes to the writing process what are your songs and lyrics about?

I usually begin with the lyrics and then follow with chords. My lyrics are often written in hindsight of a situation, rarely do I write when I am still in the present moment. I lean heavily on literary devices, particularly metaphors and old sayings from my parents. I have a background in poetry and actually published an anthology; I think this shows a bit in my lyrics. In terms of content, because I am always abroad training horses, I have plenty of stories, and a plethora of very meaningful, often fleeting relationships with people I encounter in such foreign corners of the world. These connects are usually what spurs a song out of me.

6. What has the band released thus far, how has your content been received by the public and media?

I have independently released a few singles that I recorded with the help of friends, and these were well-received by friends and past bandmates, as well as Spotify playlist curators and a few radio stations.

7. Has the band had the chance to perform live, if so whereabouts and any further plans for more shows or tours?

Not yet! Between covid and travel, I have not really had the opportunity to perform live. Here and there in local pubs while I lived in Ireland, I would play an impromptu few songs but otherwise not officially have I played my originals live.

8. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen anywhere! Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, Pandora, or essentially any streaming platform. I have no merchandise at the minute.

9. What plans do you have for the future as a band and this year into the next?

My plan is to continue writing and releasing singles for the next year while developing a connection to my audience, and then perhaps an EP the following year with some performances. I am constantly writing new songs each month and will hopefully be back in the studio soon to record the best of the bunch. I am most excited for the next two upcoming releases this year, because both are so special to me.

10. Would you like to add on or say anything else?

Just a heartfelt thank you for your curiosity and attention! It is much appreciated.

Metal go getter's CTHULHU DREAMT have two album's, a handful of single's, and have an EP out this fall! The band talks of all of this plus more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I (Reed Reimer) began this concept project to work through a lot of personal feelings (loss, depression, grief) I had around the passing of my child Ripley.

It started a couple months into covid with my friends Jeremy Myslinski (Moon & Snow, The Coming Darkness) and Jake Myslinkski (The Coming Darkness). As we began working on our first songs another long time friend, Nathan Berntson, joined the group. Since then other friends have contributed to story, lyric, and songwriting: Ben Larson and Chris Durston.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Because the world and basis of our story is based in a Cthulhu mythos, we wanted something that comes from the phrase “In His House at R’lyeh Dead Cthulhu waits dreaming, yet He shall rise and His kingdom shall cover the Earth,” which comes from Lovecraft’s writing. For us, the part that stuck was Cthulhu dreaming… Cthulhu Dreamt.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The crazy thing about us is that our band is spread all across the globe from California to the UK. I’m based out of Minnesota, and the scene here is amazing. In the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul) we get most tours large and small, so we’re pretty spoiled in that regard. Also, the amount of bands creating awesome music locally is pretty amazing. There’s a Spotify playlist called Minnesota Metal ( https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0aGpOFNRoTlI34A7IgsCEy?si=8bbb763a022c4eb4 ) that includes so many releases from bands like Dychromia, Lorekeeper, Sunless, Witchden, Blame the Witness, and The Motion Mosaic to name only a few; you could throw a rock in any direction and hit a band making killer stuff here!

4. How would you describe your style?

I’d describe it as mixed-genre or melting-pot metal. We have so many influences and things we love that we never lack for inspiration… the negative about that is someone coming to listen to purely death metal or alternative metal, or djent or whatever will be turned off because we mix so much stuff into our sounds. But if someone goes into listening to Cthulhu Dreamt and is ready for a journey, they won’t be disappointed. Overall, we’re definitely metal based, but it runs the gamut to orchestral, cinematic, to trap music, bluegrass and back.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We released our self-titled debut in January of ’21, our sophomore record ‘LIMINALITY’ in March of ’22, and a couple one-off singles in between.

The way I built the releases was to be listened to as a through story, so each album can start and go from beginning to end, connected; a journey to aid in the immersion. Also, each release comes with an original story in the liner notes that helps build the world and backstory of the overall Cthulhu Dreamt concept.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’ve got an EP we’re finishing up called PRECURSOR that will be released this fall.

Our first single from the EP “TRACE Amounts of Death” will be streaming August 5th ( https://ampl.ink/CDTraceAmounts ), and this is all in the lead-up to a huge announcement and the opening of a Kickstarter we’ll be running with Action Fiction for a TTRPG based in the world of Cthulhu Dreamt, which we’re writing a massive soundtrack for.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

This is something we talk about and is definitely possible, but we don’t have any current plans for shows.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

There are no plans of stopping, as the material for writing is never diminished and always meaningful, especially to others who are, or who have gone through loss and depression. The soundtrack for the game has been a huge undertaking, and whether it’s well received or not, it’ll be a project that we can look back on and be very proud of. And should it have success, then that just means we’re doing something that speaks to people and would have an obligation to continue.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re streaming on every platform, and links can be found on our website CthulhuDreamt.com. That is also where you can find our merch, as well as on our Bandcamp page: https://cthulhudreamt.bandcamp.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

This is a journey, and is meant for everyone from all places. Chances are something in here will be something you love, and the next track might be something you like least, but we’re continuing to evolve and go deeper into the world so if you’re willing to come along on the trip, we won’t let you down.

Alternative post-hardcore rockers TRUTH TELLER have two EP's one coming this late summer, with another EP in the works, and them wanting to play as much as they can! The band discusses their time together, music, and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was originally formed as MARV, with Ewan on vocals/guitar and Joe on drums. Shortly afterwards, the first lockdown hit, but the pair stayed in contact by sending small ideas to each other. As soon as they were able to practice again, Stephen joined on lead guitar and we recorded our debut single, Reset. Martyn later took over on bass, and within two weeks we were recording our first EP. We became known as TRUTHTELLER and Chris adopted Ewan’s guitar responsibilities, freeing us up to throw ourselves headfirst into every live show.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

‘TRUTHTELLER’ was a reaction to the very open, very honest lyrics we’d been writing up to that point. We’re a band that talks about personal issues without rose-tinted glasses. We don’t hide our insecurities to fit an image - we embrace them so that our music can reflect who we are. And that’s something you can’t do without being authentic. Something you can’t do without telling the truth.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The band is based in Norwich, UK. The music scene here, like everywhere else, struggled during COVID. A number of small, grassroots venues have closed or are closing, but the scene has some fight in it yet - just look at some of the great post-lockdown bands already pushing back. People will always make music.

Sleemo are a fantastic local band who sound like if black midi committed to fucking huge riffs and deserve more recognition. Another band we’d recommend is Chicanes, writing some of the catchiest straight up rock you’ll hear, and who we’ll be gigging with next month!

4. How would you describe your style?

Somewhere between alt-rock and post-hardcore, we try to amalgamate all of our influences to create something new and interesting. We each try to bring something to the table. We’ve drawn comparisons to Holding Absence, Boston Manor and Thrice, but our influences are spread far and wide.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve just released our brand new single, ‘Fire,’ from our second EP (releasing August 26th). It’s a massive evolution in our sound - more aggressive, more introspective, more mature. We feel we’ve really found our style with this one and can’t wait to push it even further. Our debut, self-titled EP released earlier this year and is currently available to stream everywhere.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We never don’t! We’re recording our third EP at the end of the month and already have some ideas floating around for a fourth.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We play as much as we can, everywhere we can. If you have a show you want us to play, get in touch!

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Bigger riffs, bigger crowds, bigger stages.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to us everywhere, from Spotify to YouTube to Apple Music and Amazon Music. Merch coming soon.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

You know that feeling when you hear a band for the first time and immediately know you’re going to have them on repeat for years to come? We want people to remember that feeling, just before it stops being a memory.

Heavy metal band RIVETSKULL was formed back in 2017, going on to release their first album with current work upon their second album out next year. The plans currently besides music is to release more music and play live shows! The band talks of this all below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

RivetSkull was formed in 2017 by three members of Rising, a Ronnie James Dio tribute band.  Myself - Mark X (guitar), Chad McMurray (vocals), and Michael (drums) had just come home from our second tour in Ireland and the UK and agreed we wanted to return to writing and performing our own music. In early 2020, we were joined by bassist Mark Hopkins and released our first self-produced album, Trail of Souls. We played three shows – including one opening for The Accüsed AD – before Covid hit and put a halt to live shows. During that time we wrote another album’s worth of music. But not being satisfied with the self-production of our first album, we decided to re-record it properly before moving on to the new material. We loved the songs and wanted to do them justice.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

RivetSkull is a play on the phrase “metal head” and is a name and a concept that I’ve had for a decade or more!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re Seattle-based, except for our vocalist, Chad, who now lives in LA. Both cities have very vibrant music scenes! One band in Seattle we enjoy doing shows with is Greyhawk.

4. How would you describe your style?

Traditional heavy metal \m/\m/ - each member has influences outside of heavy metal – from punk to country, from alternative to funk. Collectively, we love 70’s and early 80’s metal, before thrash metal like Metallica came onto the scene.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

The re-imagined version of our first album dropped this month. Trail of Souls: Samsara was recorded at the iconic London Bridge Studios in Seattle by Jonathan Plum (Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Queensrÿche) and mixed and mastered by Grammy-winner Matt Hyde in Los Angeles (Slayer, Seether, Deftones, Monster Magnet). It features new cover artwork by the legendary rock poster artist, Justin Hampton (Motörhead, Soundgarden, Radiohead). This incarnation of the album also has a previously unreleased cover of Aerosmith’s “Kings and Queens.” Listeners can expect an album of hard-hitting, melody-driven, vocally-polished rock ‘n roll! It’s been an amazing process of creative collaboration and we’re proud of how it turned out!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’ll be recording and releasing our second album next year. The music is 80-90% written and ready to go!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’re just getting live shows lined up again after focusing on recording. We love playing live and have a few shows this month in Seattle. We’re also doing a concert taping for the TV show, Band in Seattle at the end of the month. Check back for more tour dates on our website: www.rivetskull.com

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

More albums and lots more live shows! We’re aiming to get over to Europe and down to South America in the near future.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re on all the streaming platforms. You can find music and merch on our website too!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

If you’re feeling nostalgic for old school metal, we want to take you there - with a modern twist! Heavy metal is a family and we hope you’ll consider us a part yours! We look forward to seeing you at a show in the future!

Mixer-upper PK began way back in the 2000's, releasing close to 10 album's, with newer music always in the works as well. PK himself goes into discussion about his time with music, recent content and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

In the early 2000s, we had a rapper in Estonia who was rapping superfast so starting out as a young kid I was trying to emulate his style. It was mainly fast rap and battlerap for me at that point, which is kind of a trip to look back on. As I grew as a person, so did my own style develop. After a couple of years, I was already more-less known for a flow and metaphor scheme that I guess was pretty unique at the time. As I was getting really into the zone and starting to build myself up, I had an accident which was very close to being fatal. Once I got out of rehab from that, my world was a different place. I wasn’t really into to the local scene much. Music from my homies etc - sure. But my love for foreign music/films pretty much molded the path I would go on. I never had that old school spine but at about 2010 I really started getting into new-school and trap. It wasn’t that popular in Estonia back then, we had a very old school heavy scene, I think we kind of do now too but it’s definitely more mixed now. So once I started coming out with these big synthy tracks with melodies that reminded EDM more than actual hip-hop, the public was divided. There were people that always came up to me and told me to go back to the music that I used to make. And there were people that were coming up and saying that this new-school sound is very right for me. It got pretty annoying at times as I was constantly approached at parties etc by people who felt like the need to get into a conversation about the music I used to make. Which is fine when I think about it now, just at the time I was a bit confused. At a point, those people kind of just faded away. I think they saw that I’ll go down my own path no matter what was said. Soon enough I was being named “the most industrious rapper in Estonia” by media local outlets and it all sort of just fell into place. But I wasn’t happy though. Actually the very opposite. Personal problems and performing/travelling took a toll and I quit live shows for a couple of years to get my head together. Which, with too many close calls, I did. Haven’t ever felt better and actually just gave my first show in 2,5 years. If you can take it, you can make it.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I was trying to come up with something that would make sense to both the public and myself. Something that would describe me. So i was talking about that with a friend and he said “what about PK?”. It’s short for Painduv Keel (Flexible Tongue in English), which was meant to stand for the unique flow. I think I took that name in 2004 or something like that and never looked back. Now it’s just a part of me. I have thought about changing it a couple of times but there have just been random ideas.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I am based in Tallinn, Estonia. I wouldn’t really call myself a band, even though my live shows are with live drums. I’ve always been a solo artist and probably always will. Never say never though.

The music scene here is pretty party rap oriented. Fair share of mumble and hyphy banger tracks. One time the local radio stations top20 had like 15 hip-hop tracks. There’s also quite a bit of campfire songs and generic radio pop. We call the first one “sült” over here, it’s pretty much a mix of easy listening rock, pop and often feature lyrics that are kind of meme-ish. It’s quite popular to remix classic songs with over the top lyrics. We have some brilliant bands in the rock scene though - Miljardid is definitely one of those. They give off The Killers vibe to me. Horror Dance Squad is the best modern metal band we have here, they also mix their music with a lot of genres so there’s always something new to listen to, they keep it exciting which is dope. And my of course my all time favorite - romantic punk band called Vennaskond.

4. How would you describe your style?

I’d say I’ve gone pretty rogue from the standard genre-based boxes. I’ll do anything from pop-punk to euro trance, as long as it feels right. I’ve been told though that my style is like mixing The Black Keys with Franz Ferdinand and rap. Having said that, I’ll never stray away from a fun synth lead!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I’ve released 9 albums (some physical copies, most digital), a few mixtapes back in the day and several music videos. The latest one is actually quite a fun look back to the sound when I was in the rap scene more. It’s called superstore and you can check it out on YouTube.

Expect the unexpected from my releases, that’s how I’ve always been as a person - in music and out of it. My next track could be a heartfelt acoustic record, a rock banger or it could be a an EDM hit. One thing that will always remain despite the style of music I release - it will always be honest and it will always be everything I have.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Always. I was just looking through the catalogue the other day and realized that I actually have at least a years worth of releases planned. From metalcore to punk to songs only with the piano and everything in between. I am just starting to show you the different sides that I have.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a couple of shows lined up in August - one of those is for an especially great cause. It’s the birthday of SOS Lasteküla, who is an organization that gives homes for children who have broken homes. So that will be an emotional gig for sure.

Then a cameo in a camp for teenagers where the idea is to share my story and how I got to where I am now, hopefully motivate and inspire some young people and write some music together.

After that, we change the theme a bit and go perform at a festival a bit further away in Estonia. Plus I got something awesome planned for autumn but it’s a bit early to say it out loud yet :)

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

A friend asked me this the other day too. My main thing has always been sharing and connecting with people. Being a musician and being a human being are not as different as many people make them out to be. That’s why for me it’s not as much “future as a band” but “future as me” in general. Where-ever I go and whoever I meet, I will do it as Joseph and also as PK. So every personal experience I am a part of will be my future as a band. I think once you open your mind, the universe has a way of taking you exactly where you belong. Having said that, I’m still putting in daily work to get more gigs and get to meet as many people as I can. So I’m not going completely “the universe will guide me” on you, balance is key. Balance between rationally put in hard work and letting go.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can (and I encourage) to listen to me on Spotify here:

  https://open.spotify.com/artist/20O3giydnXgeTGiPLXLeTM?si=3jPo6K-ZRYqG0E2mdgizHA

And on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/pkestonia

Pretty much any platform you can think of, I’m on there as pkestonia.

We got new merch literally in the makes as we speak. You can buy my stuff soon on Shopify and even directly on Spotify once I connect them.

You can also get the merch for my previous albums from https://my-store-315f65.creator-spring.com/listing/dress-sexy-at-my-funeral-orig or https://my-store-315f65.creator-spring.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That they are not just listening to some ones music. We are sharing that moment in time together and you can be just the way you are. Just them, me and the sounds. And nothing will ever take that away from us.

Melancholic cold act LUNAR LOCK have a few pieces of material out, a debut EP out this summer with another out in the fall. An online store is also in the works with much else as well. The band talks of this plus more all below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was created by two friends of 21 and 23 years old during the confinement. At first we played to pass the time without thinking of forming a band and then we quickly got the taste for it. We liked the idea of making a band with two people because we were fed up with bands with 4/5 people where you always have someone who weighs down the project. For my part, I'm still studying (I'm the one who sings and does the guitar and drums part on the synthesizer) so it's complicated to find time today to rehearse, record and do concerts. The other member of the band (the bass player) is working and started playing bass not so long ago.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We were looking at the moon one night and it always fascinated us both. We thought that we were so close to it and at the same time so far from it. That finally, without it we could not live (with the functioning of the tides). We also wanted to accentuate the fact that it marks for the moment our own limit. Ok we walked on the moon but Mercury, Venus, it will not be for soon. Hence the name lunar lock.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We're from Angers, a town in the north west of France, 1 hour from Nantes and 3 hours from Paris. we don't have many places to play to be honest because it's not a city that moves much musically. We have bands like Wild Fox or Fragile that are worth checking out.

4. How would you describe your style?

We have a style that can be described as cold. We have a lot of different influences so it's hard to talk about ourselves haha. What we can say is that melancholy is at the center of our inspiration to compose. So I would describe our style as cold and melancholic.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

So far we have released 5 tracks including 3 singles and 1 EP. We plan to release several EPs per year. We also want to experiment with several themed EPs and not rest on our laurels.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, we just released our first 4 track EP on Friday July 15th and we are already preparing our new EP for November.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Nothing yet.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

There are many! We really want to record all the songs in our set live, and that includes several singles and EPs. Then, what would be great is to tour and do some shows abroad, discover new places. We've only done a few shows but we really like the scene.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We will soon open our online store where we will be able to sell t-shirts, which are currently sold at the end of the shows!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

What makes us most happy is when our music touches the person, makes them feel strong emotions. We want to transmit, share and distinguish ourselves from what is done today.

Hardcore punks HOWLING WOLVES has been active for sometime now, releasing demo's, an album, and a recent album titled 'As Above So Below", with some current idea's for new material in the works! They just want to get word of the recent album and play some shows! The band talks of these matters below.

1.Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

After disbanding our previous bands, coming from genres like: hardcorepunk, thrash, modern hardcore and skate punk etc. we felt like to give our music a harder more rocking touch. It felt like a normal progress as we are all listening to different stuff over the years. Its lame to just repeat the same story. After forming in 2014 and recording a demo, releasing a album in 2018 playing shows we are now here with our newest record “As Above So Below”.

HOWLING WOLVES are:

Felix Weckowski – vocals

Gregor Nick – guitar

Hannes Pfeifer – bass

Riccardo Zander – drums

Markus Rentsch - guitar

2.What’s the origin of the band’s name?

After having terrible choices of bandnames in the past we just wanted to have a simple catchy bandname. Just two words. Wolves are walking around doing their shit, no one fucks around with them, they rule their territory and when there is danger or misunderstanding who rules the land: they howl hahaha. Thats our sound,  Howling Wolves. Its also sounding like Rock, and has a notch to the great Blues legend: the howlin' wolf.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are from Berlin city in Germany. You don't have a big scene but a lot of diverse small scenes here. There is shitloads of venues and bands and shows happening all the time. You get to know a lot of people who are also in bands and/or doing shows. It is easy to network and help each other out.

Our buddies PIECE are great. They just recorded an new album. And we share the room with PRAISE THE PLAGUE black metal. And there is this great band REDSCALE plus tons of bands.

4.How would you describe your style?

Its a blend of HardcorePunk with some heavy rock riffing plus some metal and stoner vibes. On the new record we also have our grunge moments. We label it SabbathPunk or StonerPunk but that never exactly gets the whole thing.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have a demo (2014), a 7 track album (2018) and our newest album 'As Above So Below' . you can expect some great riffs, heavy drums and some catchy asskicking songs!

6.Do you have any new music in the works?

We started some new songs and have ideas flying around here and there, but we also spend the last months to get our new second guitarist worked in. plus each one has a lot of stuff to do in the real world. We don't rush it. There will be some new music in some years haha.. for now we are proud to share our new album.

7.How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We love playing shows and would love to hop on a tour soon. We start planning for some fall/winter action. Some weeks ago we played two release shows in Leipzig and Berlin, which was fun.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

For now we just wanna push the record as we waited for long time to get it out. Same as always: jamming and playing shows

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Its easy to find everywhere: you can stream it on Bandcamp, Spotify, YouTube etc.

The new album is available on vinyl online at our bandcamp or on the website of Karma Conspiracy Records.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

How awesome it is haha. We are happy anyone is listening and checking us out. When you hear it some vocals lines will stick with you and you feel the riffs treating you well.

Electronic industrial act GINGER MAY has been around for a while, releasing a recent single titled "Me and You", with a few more song's being worked upon currently with much more in-store! See what else the band discusses all below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The first form of Ginger May appeared in 2012 in Moscow. Two independent musicians with similar musical tastes, Tanya Schneider and Marlene Vox, gathered to create songs. However, due to the relocation of one of the band members, the project began a new life in Tokyo, Japan.

Ginger May today is the collaboration of four passionate musicians who came together because of the need to write and perform original music in different genres.

Ginger May differs fundamentally from many Japanese bands, not only because of the multi-nationality of the band's members and original sound, but also the unusual combination of the dark visual image and lyrics. You can feel the influence of industrial and alternative rock in the band’s sound. The main feature of the band's sound is the mix of heavy guitar, electronic and catchy melodies.

Despite the "dark image " there really is no genre classification that fits Ginger May.  The songwriters Tanya Schneider and Satoshi Higashida strive to ensure that their original melodies create the musical basis for their convincing lyrics. For the band, it’s all about the song.

GINGER MAY has released two albums, one acoustic, to much fanfare from fans of dark music, as well as alternative music fans. 2022  is a big year for Ginger May as the band starts collaborating with indie label Messina Record. And the result of their collaboration is a new stellar single “Me and You” which we will talk about below.

Ginger May are:

Tanya Schneider - vocals

Satoshi Higashida - guitars, programming, vocal

Toshi Kuwahara - bass

Joey Vetter- drums

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We don't really like discussing the name of the band. We want to provide an opportunity for our listeners to dream up this topic. For some, it will sound like a girl's name, for others like a girl with red hair. And if you are a deep diver into the old English language, you can find several more interpretations of this name. And all this will be partly true.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The group is currently based in Tokyo. As you know, Japan is very diverse and musically developed. To be honest, it is very difficult to describe the local scene in a small paragraph. It all depends on what you are looking for. There are many visual kei bands in Japan. We also have many foreigners on the underground stage. In any case, it is very difficult to select a few bands. This topic deserves a separate long article.

4. How would you describe your style?

Described as an electronic-industrial act, the band has incorporated funk, alternative rock, and hip-hop into their sound. With the dark, melodic vocals of Tanya and the heavy, bouncing riffs of guitarist Satoshi, GINGER MAY is a unique mixture of both the dark and light; a mix of genres made just right.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

“Me and You”, the new single from Tokyo rock band GINGER MAY. The dark and layered sound of their past releases now is melded with a new sound that will make old fans happy and interest new ones as well.

Their first release on Messina Records, GINGER MAY looks to a new start while continuing their success in the Tokyo music scene as one of the scenes premier rock bands.

“Me and You” is a sexy, sweet groove-laden single with a rhythm to get you moving that sparkles with an intensity of rock and roll swagger.

In addition Ginger May is going to release “Me and You” Oficial Music Video on July 17th.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We have a few more songs to work on. We believe that soon we can surprise you with a new single. O course, no spoilers now, since we have not the only song, and which one is going to be next released we are not sure yet.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Recently we have had a single drop-off party. And it was a blast. Since we are working hard on our second single of this year we can attend only domestic events in Japan. Summer is basically a hot vacation time, so we are planning to be back on the domestic stage in the autumn.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Oh, that's a big question. We can’t foresee far but what we really would want to do is continue to make music as long as we can.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Here is quick access to our latest single “Me and You”. We believe you can find all the links you need there.

https://gingermay.hearnow.com/

And here is a bandcamp page

https://gingermayband.bandcamp.com/

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We believe that people can relate to our music. Because all of our songs are reactions to events that occur in our or friends' lives. It is very sincere. We never write about something that we haven't experienced. And if listeners can connect to our songs,  that would mean they also experienced the same or similar feelings. And what’s more, we hope our music can help them to cope with all the bad stuff in their lives.
