SikTH have released a new single and video for "Cracks Of Light" featuring vocalist Spencer Sotelo of Periphery. After being invited to join Periphery on a U.S. tour in the summer of 2016, vocalist Mikee W Goodman and Periphery singer Spencer Sotelo began to hatch a plan that would lead to Sotelo travelling to the UK to record the song "Cracks of Light" with Goodman at R&R Studios in Uxbridge.

Summer 2017 saw Periphery touring in the UK, and the chance for Mikee not only to perform with Periphery during their London headline show, but film Sotelo for the video for "Cracks of Light."

Goodman recalls the shoot, saying, "I met up with Spencer in Manchester and we literally found a cloak room, put a white sheet up, and got the shots. Very DIY, but it looks great! I think it came out really well, the black and white vibe is cool."

Periphery and Animals As Leaders team up for what is sure to be one of the year’s most talked about tours, launching a North American trek, dubbed The Convergence Tour, on Oct. 31. Support will be coming from Car Bomb opens Oct. 31 – Nov. 15 while Astronoid supports Nov. 17 to Dec. 2.

“This tour is a long time coming,” said Animals As Leaders’ guitar player Tosin Abasi. “Beyond being some of our favorite musicians, the guys in Periphery are some of our favorite people! Our careers share common roots and at times, common members. We can’t wait to bring this show to you all.”

“We are incredibly excited to hit the road with our good friends in Animals as Leaders this fall,” adds Periphery guitar player Mark Holcomb. “While we've done some short runs and one-off shows with AAL over the years, the idea to do a full-scale, co-headlining tour of North America has been something both our camps have discussed for the better part of seven years. Unfortunately, we were never able to line things up. Until now. We were also able to snag two amazing bands for portions of this tour as well, Car Bomb for the first half and Astronoid for the second half. ”

Periphery, the D.C.-based prog innovators who have graced the covers of Modern Drummer, Guitar World and Revolver, return this summer with a new album, Periphery III: Select Difficulty (July 22, Sumerian Records) and a U.S. tour, dubbed the Sonic Unrest tour, which launches on Aug. 4.

“Periphery III: Select Difficulty is finally complete and we’re extremely excited to show everyone,” said guitar player Jake Bowen. “For the past couple of years we’ve been refining our collaborative process as a band and we feel that it’s only getting better with the completion of this album. We spent two months writing songs that are not only representative of the Periphery sound but also reflect where all of us are as musicians, working together has helped us tread new ground musically and creatively. In support of Periphery III you’ll see us hit the road in the States this summer with SikTh, Chon, and Toothgrinder on the Sonic Unrest tour, it’s going to be a blast! See you on the road!”

Periphery’s own Adam “Nolly” Getgood oversaw production for the album as he did with the Juggernaut releases.  Nolly will no longer be a touring member of Periphery, as he will be expanding his production work in his native UK.  He remains an integral part, and a member, of Periphery. At this time no decision has been made about a touring bassist.

“Touring with Periphery has shown me some of the most incredible experiences I could ever have imagined, to meet amazing people all over the world and to create friendships for life; it has truly been an honor to perform in front of every audience who has watched us play over the years. However the touring life isn’t something that everyone can continue doing indefinitely, and for me, the time has come where I want to settle into a more normal existence, be able to make plans further into the future than the touring life enables, and to be able to focus more on the studio side of my music career,” explained Nolly. “I will, however, be remaining as a band member and contributing in any way that I can while the band is off the road; I love all of my fellow bandmates like brothers and I’m so grateful for the incredible support they’ve shown as I make this huge life change. I know they are going to be taking the music and performances to the next level when they hit the road later this year.”

The Sonic Unrest tour, a month-long outing, sponsored by D’Addario and Guitar Center, includes openers SikTh, Chon and Toothgrinder and kicks off on Aug. 4 in Raleigh, NC. Tickets are on-sale this Friday at 10 am local time. VIP packages, which feature a private meet and greet with the band as well as a limited edition, exclusive poster are available simultaneously via www.periphery.net.

Periphery has released a new video for the song "The Bad Thing via Billboard. Jeff Holcomb directed the clip, which features a montage of live footage from the DC-based prog-metal outfit’s early 2015 tour.  Drummer Matt Halpern explained to Billboard, “We thought that a live performance for ‘The Bad Thing’ video was a great way to show the intensity of the song, and to show our direct expression of how it makes us feel on stage. Check it out HERE.

From First To Last have gotten signed to Sumerian Records. They had this to say "We are very excited to announce that we have officially joined the Sumerian Records artist family, and that our new single "Dead Trees" is now available for purchase on iTunes and Google Play! It's going to be a good 2015 everyone!"

The band has released the first single "Dead Trees" off their fifth album the first to feature new vocalist Spencer Sotelo who's also doing vocal duties for Periphery. The record itself was also funded via Kickstarter. But that's not all the band has done they went ahead to re-record the 2004 song "Note To Self" to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the band's 2004 release 'Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has A Body Count".

Check out the "Note To Self" song HERE and "Dead Trees" HERE.

Experimental progressive metal rockers Periphery represents the vanguard of addictive, chaotic, challenging and cathartically inviting heavy music for the modern era. Thus they have released an array of albums, toured relentlessly, played shows on and off with plans of not stopping at all. Guitarist  Mark Holcomb discusses of their new double album "Juggernaut" along with their own headlining tour both happening in the next year!

1. Can you give those of us who aren't familiar with Periphery a brief history of the band and can you please describe your sound for those who have yet to hear your music?

Mark: Hi! We started about 6 years ago in Washington DC, and have been touring since then. If you haven’t heard our music, I would only say we’re progressive metal. We try to avoid specific labels but that’s one kind of lets us play what we want and not be pigeonholed.

2. Where does the band's name come from and represent for you guys?

Mark: Misha came up with the name years ago, and it just kind of stuck. It was a catchy one word name that didn't invoke any preconceptions about the music.

3. Has the band's songwriting process changed much over the years? How does one of your epic songs come to be?

Mark: Definitely. It used to be somewhat of a single-songwriter band, with Misha handling it one the 1st record. On Periphery II, and especially with Clear and Juggernaut, we've grown into a complete democracy songwriting, and we collaborate in every sense of the word. Our songwriting process on Juggernaut consisted of Jake, Misha and I being the principle songwriters - and we wrote the music together during a 3 month period at home. Spencer then wrote a detailed narrative to fuel the concept of Juggernaut.

4. What about musical influences, do you guys have a certain group of acts you stand by for inspiration or does the group change every so often?

Mark: Changes very often, but we all have some similar influences. Dream Theater, Metallica, Pantera, Deftones, Meshuggah. So so many more.

5. Why did you want to release two albums simultaneously?

Mark: Many reasons, but really what we wanted to say musically couldn't fit on one disc. Between the story, the sheer amount of music and the over-arcing statement, it needed to be spread across 2 discs.

6. How would you say these albums compare, differ, and have evolved from one another?

Mark: There are very deliberate similarities. They share many musical and lyrical themes, they begin and end in similar ways, they reference each other, and much more. They do differ stylistically as well - Omega is a bit more of a prog album: longer arrangements, more experimentation, and so on. It’s got an acoustic track, a thrash song, a slower, doomy-sludge song, and an 11 and a half minute song.

7. Why was Alpha and Omega chosen as title choices for these albums, what do these titles represent and relate to the album?

Mark: They basically were established to notate that Juggernaut consists of two parts. It doesn't have a literal connection to the story of Juggernaut, just kind of a cool way to break up the story in 2.

8. How does the music relate to the album's artwork for these releases?

Mark: We hired an artist named Justin Randall, specifically to match the darker, more cinematic tonalities of the music. We were very specific in our directions to him, to match the story in terms color, mood and overall content. The art is very different from a traditional release, and we thought it’d be a cool way to go further in distinguishing the Juggernaut releases as a “different” record for us.

9. Would you count these as your third and fourth albums or is that not the case?

Mark: I would say so, yes. They’re both two very different statements although they share a title and story arc.

10. You have been releasing all of your material via Sumerian Records, has the relationship with them been going well then? You don't see yourselves walking away from them?

Mark: They've been great to us. The role of a label can be a vital one with the industry the way it is, and they've always let us do exactly what we please, which is relatively unheard of for younger bands like us. I don’t see us leaving that relationship anytime soon.

11. What are your expectations for these releases?

Mark: It’s hard to say. The goal with any record for us is to say exactly what we want to say, and nothing more. It can be unfair to project record sales goals and all that, simply because at the end of the day, it’s just metal. We’re not Taylor Swift or Bruno Mars. Hopefully this grows us as a band.

12. You guys will be heading out on a headlining tour, so what do you plan to do to prepare yourselves for this tour?

Mark: Practice, practice, practice. And develop a really cool stage production for these shows.

13. When you headline do you change things up and switch songs from show to show?

Mark: Sometimes. The nature of our music makes it tough to do so since it’s very technical and we have 3 guitarists, so any material that we learn before a tour, we really have to stick to it to avoid getting rusty. That being said, we've been known to sub in and out songs at times to keep things fresh.

14. Since you have so many albums, does it keep getting more difficult to put together a setlist?

Mark: It does. We find that fan favorites change so frequently and we always have to find some balance of keeping them happy, while at the same time playing songs that keep it energetic and exciting for us.

15. What can fans expect to hear? More new songs or old songs?

Mark: Definitely new songs. We’re honestly a bit burnt out from playing some of our older songs, haha. And we’re absolutely itching to play so much of the new stuff, sine a lot of was written specifically to play live.

16. What else besides this tour and album can we expect to see from you guys?

Mark: LOTS more touring in 2015 and beyond. We've never been more proud of any release than we are of Alpha and Omega, and we’re gonna be road dogs for a while to prove it.

17. Any final words for our readers?

Mark: Thank you so much for your support. Come out and see us on tour!

Periphery have unveiled the artwork and track listing for their forthcoming albums, Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega, both available on Jan. 27 via Sumerian Records.

Periphery, the D.C. based prog outfit whose music Rolling Stone described as “instrumentally vigorous” and whose members have graced the covers of Guitar World and Modern Drummer, release dual albums Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega, on Jan. 27 via Sumerian Records.

"Given the nature and complexity of the Juggernaut story, we've actually done something different and exciting in regards to the release,” explains drummer Matt Halpern.  “Juggernaut is a story that is told through our music, and we want our audience to fully digest the whole experience. Because Juggernaut is very detailed and dense in terms of character development, peaks and valleys, climaxes and resolutions we've divided the story and music in two, in the form of two separate albums. Juggernaut: Alpha, the first part of the story, focuses on the back story and character development, while part two/album two, Juggernaut: Omega, focuses on some pretty serious and gut-wrenching events, taking you for a thrill ride along the main character's complex journey.  Although the albums are split in two physically, the story is only complete when the albums are digested consecutively, allowing the listener to recognize and hear the lyrical and musical overlapping themes, foreshadowing, and connected ideas.”

“This is new ground and it’s exciting,” band founder and guitarist Misha Mansoor says of the band’s approach to writing and recording Juggernaut, which saw all six members work collectively for the first time in Periphery’s history. “It's a way to shake things up. Everyone contributed to everything, even if it wasn't his instrument. It wasn’t about confrontation. Everyone was focused on creating a really cool album.”

Periphery hit the road in support of the forthcoming album on Jan. 10, kicking off a five-week, North American tour at Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, N.C.

“We are ecstatic to be out of the studio and touring on Juggernaut,” said vocalist Spencer Sotelo. “The band is planning on performing a good amount of tracks from that record on this tour and we are beyond excited to share this experience with all of our fans. It’s going to be a killer tour and we feel very strongly about the diverse line-up of bands that we were able to bring together for this.”

Openers for the upcoming tour are Nothing More, Wovenwar and Thank You Scientist.  Tickets are on-sale Nov. 7 with VIP packages available simultaneously via Soundrink.com.

“I first saw Nothing More play in London after the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards and was instantly blown away by their performance,” said Mansoor.  “I am so happy that we have the opportunity to take out such a unique and original band on our headliner.” Nothing More’s Johnny Hawkins on the tour: “We've been Periphery fans for a long time now - their recordings were a benchmark of quality when we were making our album and we are honored to be sharing the road with them!”
