Doom metal act GOD.I.AM is a solo project by Howard King, and his first attempt at doing a solo project. This year, he has already released a debut album, with new music already being written for a follow-up release expected soon. No show plans yet, but promotion for the album is in full force, new music, and much else to come soon. Howard himself does the talking about this all below.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
My name is Howard King, and I am the only member, because god.i.am is my Solo project. And god.i.am is my first ever attempt at doing a Solo project.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
The name god.i.am came from my spin on the term " As god of my world..." and my latin album name translates to "this eternal, infinite nothing 23.23"
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
god.i.am is located in Eastern North Carolina, USA. The music scene here is absolutely nothing to brag about. Typically, bands play in the middle to western part of the state.
4. How would you describe your style?
god.i.am is my own, unique spin on Doom Metal. I tried very hard to NOT sound like any other Doom bands. I wrote, arranged, and played ALL of the music and lyrics on my Debut album. So the drums are all me. The vocals are all me. And I did all of the guitar work with only my 5 string bass.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
On 2.3.23, I released my Debut god.i.am album called "hanc aeternum, infinitum nihil 23.23" and I've released 2 singles called "Serenity, No More" and "Ditch. Pig (.of spells and curses.)"... Listeners can expect to hear my unique, very heavy bass tone and well-placed "brown notes", and my dark, mysterious vocals...along with my steady, sometimes off-time drums that bring all the chaos into one.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
Yes, I'm writing new music for a follow up album. I hope to release it later in the year.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
god.i.am has no live shows planned at the moment, but there will be live shows in my future.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
My plans for god.i.am are to continue promoting my Debut album, as well as writing new music. And I ultimately want to play my music live.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
My music was released on 2.3.23 via distrokid, so god.i.am can be found on all major streaming platforms. I currently have shirts, CD's and cassettes for sale, and I handle all of the sales and shipping personally.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
god.i.am is my first-ever Solo project. My Debut album "hanc aeternum, infinitum nihil 23.23" is an Occult-Themed, All-Original, Bass-Driven concept album. It's my story of a young lady that carelessly dabbles in Black Magic, and ultimately is consumed by the darkness. I am currently working on a short story that will tie my fans and listeners into Serenity's ill-fated journey through the Occult. It will be available soon. When you play my music, crank it up as loud as f*ck...and enjoy the bass-driven, heavy chaos. Your speakers will hate you for it!! "Rise Up, and Prey with Me..."
