Hey Radio Discusses the Fun with Music!

Punk rockers HEY RADIO have had several releases under their belts, including an EP, album, and single's as well. Some all new music in the form of some EP's is in the process too! Some shows are even set, the band hopes to gain more fans, make more music, and much more is in-store with lots of fun! The band discusses their tunes, and more!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We actually started off as a side project for a metal band that Adam and Ian were part of...it was going to be our version of Spinal Tap, kinda a parody/joke band. We were even gonna do shows like that, the punk thing first, then we’d come back out and do the metal band. The thing is that it kinda stuck, and we realized it’d be easier to get shows as a punk band instead of a meal band!  So, we started doing more of the punk stuff and the metal band became the side project until we decided to go all in on the punk band!  Right now, our current lineup is Adam (vocals), Ian (lead guitar and backing vocals), Dustin (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), Kota (bass), and Donnie (drums).

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

That was also part of the gag idea of the band. We’d make music and would say “Hey, radio! Play our songs!” It just stuck!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We’re from Wichita, Kansas.  We’ve got a scene that’s full of all sorts of groups from all sorts of different genres.  Seriously, you name it, there’s probably at least one band out here that plays it.  There are a lot of quality groups that will appeal to anyone and everyone out here, but a couple that we’re really digging at the moment are Flatlning, Old Coffins, Goose Corpse, and The Merkins.

4. How would you describe your style?

Fun, nostalgic, the kind of stuff you can just have a good time with.  We borrow a lot from our influences like Masked Intruder, NOFX, Teenage Bottlerocket, The Vandals, Bad Religion, and others, and we throw it all into our music.  We’re also known for our stage banter and having a good time, because isn’t that what live shows are all about?

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have our original EP (“Get Loose!”) as well as our full-length release that came out a couple of years ago (“Bangers”) as well as a couple of super fun singles (“Punk Rock Show” which is our most recent, and our super fun punk cover of Backstreet Boys’ “Everybody” that we released on Black Friday a few years back.)  One thing people always say about our music is that it reminds them of the Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtracks or music they listened to while they were skateboarding back in the day. We totally love hearing that, because that’s definitely the style we’re going for!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’re actually working on a couple of EPs at the moment, and we hope to have them available for purchase and streaming this Fall.  We’re planning on releasing some originals along with a couple of special releases folks are gonna love!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’ve got a couple of festivals we’re doing this summer, and we’re also hoping to add a few more local and regional shows this summer while we’re working on the new recordings.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We’re just hoping to get more fans, share more tunes, and hopefully get some interest from labels.  Most of all, we just want to keep making music for folks to enjoy!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find our music on all the major streaming services, and you can buy the tracks and albums on places like YouTube Music, Apple Music, Amazon, and others.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Something fun, something familiar, something that makes you want to just have fun with the homies!
