Zoe Talks of Music, Show Playing and More!

Mixer-uppers ZOE is a combination of this and that, having their style be unique to say the least. With that though, they have released four album's since way back in 2006. New content in the works with some shows as well booked up too. The band talks of these matters plus what's planned for them next for this year.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Holy (drum) : It’s a long story (lol), Fred and Aldo are the originals members of ZOË, they had 2 different drummers for the first 2 releases and 2 different bass players too, I begun to play with them for the promotion of their second album "Dirty Little Sister", and Clém play with us since 2019 when we worked for our 4th album "Back Into The Light" which is available since September 2021

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Aldo (guitar) : At the time we wanted a short name with a minimum of letters, in order to see the show posters from far away. This female name represented the seventies spirit of ZOË.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Clém (bass) : Our band is based in the north of France, half Calais and half Dunkirk. The music scene is actually really opened to any genres, from rock/metal bands, to Djs, to rappers, to folk etc... But we can recommend Poncharello, a really great rock n' roll band from Lille and Dunwich stoner sludge band from Calais. Holy : And of course, my other band named Seven which is in an electro metal style ;-)

4. How would you describe your style?

Aldo : We are often told that we are a stoner band but ZOË is a mix of hard rock, stoner, blues, punk and rock'n'roll.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Fred (Voice-guitar) : We've released four records since 2006. Each time, we've tried to build our sound and our identity and bring something new at the same time. The next LP will probably be in the same vein that the perviousness. We don't pretend to revolutionize rock n roll music, just to remain faithful to our influences and to evaluate bringing new ideas in our songs.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Clém : With the pandemic we had some time to work on songs, but with shows coming back, that flew away quite fast, so now rehearsals are meant to play the setlist and try new thing for the live purpose.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Aldo : We have some shows planned in France and Belgium. Fifteen shows are planned for the moment. Other dates of concerts will be added.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Aldo : “Back Into The Light” came out during the Covid crisis. So we didn’t get a lot of gigs. We hope to play as many shows as possible in 2022. In early 2023 we will think about the fifth album, we started writing songs during the covid crisis.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Clém : Pretty much on any platforms, you can find us on Bandcamp, or Spotify, even YouTube. The link is on our Facebook page, and every future shows or announcement will be on this page.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Holy : I’d say our energy, we try to spread what we feel deep inside of us when we’re playing, so we hope listeners catch this

Aldo : If the guy feels the energy, the soul and the Rock'n'roll roots of ZOË, it’s great !
