Flyingdeadman Talks of Recent Works, Current Pandemic and More!

Ambient post-rock band FLYINGDEADMAN have some content out, including the latest an EP. An upcoming all new EP is expected sometime later on, along with shows when the time is just right. The band talks of all of this plus more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band is quiet old, the musicians changed lots of time, the two former members are Aurélien and  Fabien the two guitarists that are in the band since the beginning about 15 years ago. Firstly we play a kind of neo metal / post rock music with a singer. The vagaries of life meant that some had to leave the group. In 2010 we decided to turn to an atmospheric post rock with two guitars and samples. Then three years ago Damien on drums and Christophe on bass came to enrich the group.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

The band name is inspired by the legend of the boat the flying dutchman condemned to inherit on the ocean, I think that it’s a kind of allegory of our life so flyingdeadman was I think a great name.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are from Bressuire a small city in west of France about an hundred kilometers far from Nantes. Our local scene is mostly composed of punk hardcore and metal bands. We are a kind of musical exception where we live. But in France we have such great post rock bands such as Lost in Kiev, Vesperine, Where mermaids drown, Kwoon, Heklaa, and many more. You must have a listen to them.

4. How would you describe your style?

We use to say that we play a cinematic post rock.

Indeed all our songs from our last EP were inspired by the movie “The night of the living dead” and we’ve added original dialogues taken from it. We want our listeners to feel emotions as they listen to our creations. I think we play a classic post rock made of melodies turning to explosions with kind of huge guitars sometimes. Our only aim is to make listeners travel to a beautiful space where they can feel comfortable.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released 4 EP since 2011, three as a duet and one as a four piece band. You can expect four trips, let your mind be guided by the music and travel. If you like bands like Explosions in the sky, This will destroy you, Caspian I think you could like our creations.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Our last EP “the night” was released on November 2020.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Unfortunately due to the Mondial pandemic and especially the different lock out we have nothing planned for the upcoming months we hope that we could play again from September.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We plan to release a new EP in two years and we hope to be able to play as much as possible because it’s always a pleasure to share our music live and see the public reactions. If you are a label or a tour manager feel free to contact us.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can free listen and download at name you price our EP's on our bandcamp page : https://flyingdeadman.bandcamp.com/album/the-night. And in all streaming platforms (Spotify, Deezer, iTunes, amazon music…).

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The emotions he / she has felt while listening it.
