Maverick's Trio Talks of Recent Releases, Shows, and Newer Music!

Punk rockers MAVERICK have a debut EP out since last year, with all new music already in the works! The band talks about this, upcoming shows, and just putting in everything they got, doing what they do with music.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

I’ve officially started bringing in people on the project in 2017. As life works in mysterious ways, in late 2019, I had to continue the journey on my own, until I met Fil and Elliott. We met this year (2023) at the jam space we share. We hit it off from the start and Maverick was up and running again, ready for live appearances. We are however still looking for a 4th member, to join in as the lead guitarist.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

As the definition (plus origin story behind the expression) of a maverick goes (an unorthodox or independent-minded person. /…that does not carry a brand. It is a word also used to describe a person who acts free from constraints or organizational guidelines.), all punks have this ‘’maverick seed’’. It just made sense to apply the name.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Maverick is out of and based in Montreal, Canada. There are so many great local and national bands, as the scene is very varied and wide, and Montreal happens to be a very creative city. C.I.D.B, Shit Happens and Stand Alone are some of those cool refreshing, different sounding bands active in the scene. Of course, the legendaries Ripcordz and Self-Control are a must. Truth is, the scene is blessed with just so many bands.

4. How would you describe your style?

Punk Rawk. It is quite hard, and frankly not of our desire to label us with a particular style. One thing’s for sure, we play punk. So people can add whatever fits their description the best, we’re cool with that.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

In 2022, came out our first EP, Bones Shaker. We are now preparing shows, but have a few projects planned for the near future. First thing would be a collab/split short album with our good friends C.I.D.B.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We always do. We have our list of priorities and are working our way through it. Let time be our ally so we can record the unheard and bring it to you as soon as possible.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We have a few shows this summer planned, in the city and surroundings. No tour has been discussed yet, although we would be all thrilled to jump on such an opportunity.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We’re putting everything we’ve got and can only hope for the best.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We’re on most platforms (spotify, deezer, itunes, youtube, bandcamp, soundcloud…). The best way to access the links is through our linktree, available on our instagram and facebook pages.
As a d.i.y. band, we are putting our ideas together to print t-shirts and other merch soon. At the moment, our EP Bones Shaker is available to be sold and shipped worldwide, either by contacting us directly, or through a local music store (link provided in our linktree). When coming to our shows, people can grab fridge magnets, CDs and free stickers.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The feeling they get when the first notes reach their heart.
