Ohmwork Talks of New Music and Other Matters at Hand!

Progressive heavy metal band OHMWORK have an extensive array of albums, four in fact but a fifth is coming this late summer time though! Shows are in the works and talks as of now, with the band wanting you craving for more. The band talks of all of these matters and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Ohmwork are a metal band from Norway established in April 2012. We’ve got four albums, an EP and numerous singles to our name. Ohmwork have toured Norway numerous times including festivals and played gigs abroad. Nowadays we are gearing up for our fifth album release coming out in August. Hopefully we’ll get on the road in September.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

We took our band name from a GZR album (Geezer Butler’s solo project in the early 2000). We thought it sounded like a really cool band name – and it still does!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

It all started in Tromso, a small city in the northern parts of Norway. Today all three of us live in different parts of Norway. It works fine, we get together when it’s time to rehearse for an album, tour etc. All that said, Tromso has got an incredible music scene. Always have! In later years metal bands like Heave Blood & Die, Vederkast and Endolith have released really good albums.

4. How would you describe your style?

In many ways we are a traditional heavy metal band. Riff-laden, heavy, fast and sluggish. A good blend of 2021 with late ’70 and early ’80 merged with traces of prog.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released four albums: Storm Season (2014), ShadowTech (2015), Alyssa Drone (2017) and HorrorWorks (2019). We always try to make thoughtful albums with both fast rockers and slow burners and throw in a couple of epic tracks as well. And tell good stories. The last two releases were concept albums. All wrapped up in great artwork!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

August 27th, we release our fifth album Pareidolia. Maybe it’s our most progressive to date. This time around we were driven to push the boundaries a bit such as giving more variety and contrast to the songs, experimenting with different guitar tunings and including more acoustic guitars. And of course, leaving lots of heavy crushing riffs in the mix!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

For all of us it has been difficult times. Until now practically impossible to book gigs. But in recent times we have been talking of doing gigs again. Hopefully we will be on the road in September-October.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our drummer quit last year, and things looked kind of grim for a couple of months. Luckily, we got it sorted out. New drummer is in place and things are looking much rosier now! We have even started working on new songs that will be released next year hopefully.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to Ohmwork on most of the streaming platforms out there, and of course all of our albums are available on vinyl and CD. Search for it and you’ll find our albums in several stores out there, or just go to our web shop at www.ohmworktromso.com

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

“That was great!” Cool and inspirational hard rock music with a uniqueness that makes you crave for more!
