Follow My Lead Leads Onto New Music

Post-hardcore/metalcore act Follow My Lead or FML is a 5-piece band from Donegal, Ireland. They are currently in writing and recording mode for their debut EP and their two singles "Crestfallen", and "Take to the Streets" are now on iTunes! Find out what the band had to say about this debut effort!

1. What type of band are you?

A bit of a vague question, but if you mean genre then we classify ourselves as Post-Hardcore and if you mean what kind of people then we're all just friendly, hard working guys.

2. Tell us the brief history of your band.

Matt, Robbie, Declan and Niall were all friends from previous bands etc and were working on writing an EP but still needed a drummer and in early 2013 found William and then started writing together with the EP writing finished and recording well underway they now look forward to releasing their debut EP "Sleepless".

3. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

We don't try and write specific niche theme's or anything, we just write either what we feel at the time or how we've felt from past experiences.

4. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Yeah we write all our on songs, And usually our songs start off with one riff or idea and then we develop it as much as we can and then through trial and error and a lot of drafting we end up with a song.

5. Who are your musical influences?

While She Sleeps, Bring Me The Horizon and Of Mice and Men, But honestly just too many to list.

6. Tell me about "Sleepless".

Sleepless is a six track EP, writing started in June last year and then we were happy with the songs around the end of January and then began the recording process.

7. How would you describe the overall sound of this EP?

It's got a lot of dynamic and no two songs are alike so it's quite hard to sum up the songs into one sound but it's got a good bit of heavy sections and a good bit of contrasting soft sections.

8. What would you say is your favorite track off it?

We've all got conflicting opinions on this but we all love playing the title track "Sleepless" live.

9. Did the band have any definitive goals they were shooting for before the recording process began for this EP?

To try and build a substantial fan base before releasing the EP and trying to find a way to record, mix and master it in a way that the EP would be at it's best quality.

10. Are you using any new instrumentation you've never used in the recording process before?

We've got a lot of background synths going on to fill out mixes and some more predominant ambient synths that we wouldn't have used before.

11. Can you go into one or two tracks on the new EP? If so, can you give us the track title and brief description of how the track sounds and how it came about?

"Drained" which is one of our more ambient tracks, started with Niall having an idea and then the band building on it and reshaping it into a full song, Drained has some good dynamics in regards to the song being quite chilled out in the verse with clean guitar and an almost narrative spoken word vocal and then breaking into distortion guitar and screamed vocals for other sections.

12. What are your expectations for it?

We don't really have much expectations for the EP but we're hoping that it goes down well with our fan's and that it will help us in expanding our fan base.

13. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can listen to us on Youtube, Facebook and Spotify, And you can buy our stuff on iTunes.

14. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

We're hoping to release the EP and if we get a good reaction from it then try and tour.
