Surrender Your Silence's Says This Was Then, But This is Now!

Surrender Your Silence are a Metalcore band hailing from Oxfordshire UK, started in September 2012. With their 5 track EP "That Was Me Then, This Is Me Now" unleashed, these guys are ready to take their spot within the UK Metal scene, using their sound which separates from the usual "Metalcore" genre. Having such a musical passion, Surrender Your Silence are ones to watch in 2013.

1. Surrender Your Silence where does a name such as this one come from and mean?

Surrender Your Silence, to us the name means to stand up for your own beliefs, to be heard and be your own person so that you can fight for your own happiness and goals.

2. Can you tell me about your current release "That Was Me Then, This Is Me Now"?

This current release is our first EP. The songs are mainly metalcore however we have a lot of influences from hardcore and screamo so it's a diverse range of sounds that should appeal to anyone who loves metal.

3. Where did the title "That Was Me Then, This Is Me Now" come from and mean?

"That Was Me Then, This Is Me Now" comes from the journey everyone takes to become the person they are now. It's about how your own decisions have created this new person, so it's best not to regret the past but look to the future.

4. Which would say is your fave song off this release?

We like all of the tracks but our favorite is the title track, That Was Me Then, This Is Me Now. It has the most powerful chorus and a lot more diversity on the track.

5. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

Most of the songs are about staying positive and never giving up on your dreams, being free and living life to the full. Some are also slightly political, expressing an anger towards dictators and government with what the world is becoming and how our freedom is taken.

6. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

We defiantly do, we always write our songs together and share our ideas between us. We try to be as open as possible when writing so everything comes out perfect.

7. Who are your musical influences?

Miss May I, The Word Alive, Bless The Fall, Bring Me The Horizon, Architects, A Day To Remember, Of Mice & Men, we mainly have a huge Metalcore influence.

8. How do you describe your music to people?

Something that differentiates from the usual metalcore sound. Diverse music that can attract everyone attention.

10. You guys are currently unsigned do you hope to one day get signed to a label or do you prefer the whole DIY experience?

The whole DIY experience is something we feel that every band needs to do to really appreciate their music, we understand that being approached by a label can bring about a lot more opportunities so I doubt it would be something we would refuse.

11. What's the music scene like in Oxfordshire, UK have any band recommendations?

It has been quiet for a long time but it's picking back up again thanks to promoters like 100% Mosh and Skeletor Promotions. Some great Oxfordshire bands unclude A Trust Unclean, Sleepwalkers, Vera Grace and Aethara.

12. You guys have been a band for just a few months how are things going for you since the formation?

We already had our EP ready for when we first announced the forming of Surrender Your Silence and we had all played together in other bands so it's been easy to find some footing. Things have been very positive for us with a lot of great feedback from fans and promoters.

13. What does Surrender Your Silence have in-store for 2013?

We still have plans to do a lot more with a new single coming sometime soon along with merch and plenty of gigs. We hope to get another EP out before the end of the year.
