Up and coming rap, hip hop artist RIOMA has released quite an array of tracks, even an EP! Over time, he has gone on to play shows, release more music, and do the same never ending cycle, until all know his name! He Rioma himself talks with us about his start, music, and the future.
1. Where did you get the idea for the name, you planned it or came out just like that?
My name is Mario so I tried playing around with the letters. First it was Rio and then I came up with Rioma a few days later really on accident and it stuck. I loved it! It was unique and I never heard it before and I thought I struck gold.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I just really enjoy making music I like to listen to. First it was an alternate hip hop which has now evolved into a fusion of hip hop/rock with many unique sounds and high quality production.
3. How did this whole thing get its formation?
I got kicked out of college my junior year and at that time I was just starting out for fun. When I got home I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life so I would keep playing with recording and writing and it became a drug to me. A drug and therapy simultaneously.
4. Where are you based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local artists or bands you could recommend?
I'm based out of New Jersey. The music scene here is all over the place. There are many talented artists,bands, musicians, etc here.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Travis Scott, MGK, Jack Kay’s, Kanye West, Linkin Park.
6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
I cover all experiences in my life and I try to make it consistently relatable to help lead the listener to feel relatable. I write about love, heart break, addiction, depression, growth, and evolution.
7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
I write all of my own music!
8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
I’ve released over 30 songs, a full collaboration project and a solo EP in the past 2 years. I have over 300 songs and counting in my vault and I plan on continuously dropping music through out the years to come. This year I plan on dropping 8 singles which I’m very excited for.
9. Do you have any new music in the works?
ALWAYS!!!
10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
I have a few people who really think highly of me and enjoy what I do in the industry that help me get shows/exposure. I plan on taking as many shows if they make sense that is offered to me.
11. What plans do you have for the future for this year?
A lot more music, a lot more strategy, and a lot more evolving.
