Thread The Lariat Discusses Lots of Stuff with Us!

Rockin metalhead's THREAD THE LARIAT met, wrote some stuff, gathered more folk, then released said stuff, quite a bit of content, music videos, mixing things up every so often. The band would go on to play shows, with more set for sure this year, along with new music, including an all new single released recently, with more stuff coming soon enough. The band discusses all of this stuff below!

1. What type of band are you?

We’re a rock band, pure and simple. But, you know, there’s a lot of sub genre’s in there. We’ve got some metalcore, some emo, some alternative, and some punk. We mix it up. I know, it’s only rock n roll, but we like it.

2. Why go with a name like THREAD THE LARIAT does it have a meaning behind it?

A lariat is a lasso, and you want to be the one threading it. Tying it. Throwing it. You don’t want to be the one catching a rope around the neck. Gotta grab the bull by the horns in life.

3. Can you tell us the history of how the band came to be and who plays what?

Me and our guitarist Dougie were just writing songs out of psychological necessity. We had them in us and they had to come out. We recorded a couple, which made us realize we wanted to hear them played with a full band. So we set out about finding our guys to play this stuff live. We were fortune to meet our bassist Aaron Torske and drummer Jimmy Lestrange

4. Who writes the songs, what are they about?

We all write, which is wonderful and maddening at the same time. There can be too many cooks in the kitchen, so we burn stuff and throw stuff away to whittle down the best possible ideas. We operate under the premise that every idea is considered valid, but ultimately whatever suits the song will survive.

5. Who or what inspires you to do what you do?

Any artist that stays true to what they believe in creatively, stays the course for the sake of the art, is admirable.  Of course there are innumerable bands and musicians that we look up to and greatly admire their work. But really, sneaking into punk rock shows as kids to watch our idols play is what sparked the inspiration for what we do.

6. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Well, we have over 20 original releases and 1 cover song, including several full length music videos. Listeners can find a diverse selection of sounds and themes ranging from upbeat to sad to flat out angry. Our songs kind of run the gamut. It can be confusing for people who first discover us, since we don’t seem to fit completely in any one genre. We are genre confused. We like to mix it up. It’s a blessing and a curse.

7. Why turn to using TikTok and other social media means to get your name out there; how has it worked out?

Social media, the internet, and the cell phone is now the alpha and the omega. It’s the god of our generation. It’s worshiped, it’s hated, but everyone is privy in one way or the other. Everyone is living life through a device, so naturally that’s what we tap into to send out our message. There are drawbacks, of course. But overall it allows us to control our own destiny, which is a positive thing.

8. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Our routine has been established as: write songs, record them, then go play ‘em live. We had some amazing shows last year. Las Vegas was a highlight. The Viper Room in Hollywood was killer. Our favorite hometown venue called Soma is always on the list.

9. What does this next year 2025 have in-store?

We just dropped a new single called “Trap Door” on all streaming platforms and will have a full length music video for the song out next month. We will be at Supply and Demand in Long Beach for a gig on March 15th, with a full west coast tour coming up this summer. And by hook or by crook we will release more new music this year.

10. Would you like to add on anything else?

Never give up on your dreams and stay firmly on the path you believe to be correct. I went to a music store the other day to buy something and I left my wallet there by accident. When I realized what I’d done, I was bummed. I figured it was a lost cause, but I drove back anyway. When I got there, the employee had found it and was waiting for me to show back up. Cash still there. I couldn’t believe it. My mood shifted, and suddenly I was feeling optimistic about the world and humanity. Then as I was leaving I noticed an ad on the wall for some guy looking for other musicians to jam with. In that moment I realized how lucky I am to have my boys to play these songs with and people who care to listen. Thank you for listening.
