Indie metalheads DREAMSICKLE not an ice cream cover band or ice cream! But an actual metal act with indie and metal fused together, with them releasing three single's with two upcoming EP's expected out this year! The band talks of these releases, play some shows and tour as well!
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or came out just like that?
We started out as “RUCKUS” because me (Cole) and some of the other guys all met on the rugby team and a “ruck” is basically a tip off for rugby. After about a year of being a shitty cover band that grew old and we decided to go with DREAMSICKLE suggested by our singer (Asa). It kinda just came out as DREAMSICKLE and we dug it.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I (Cole guitar) have always been into contemporary metal as well as indie and I really wanted to harness those two genres into one.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The bassist (Sanchez) and I met through the rugby team at Okstate and I knew Asa (singer) via ex girlfriends who were friends. Those two and me are the original members of DREAMSICKLE. We knew each other to an extent but really got close when we started making music.
4. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We are based out of OKC/Stillwater Oklahoma. The scene here in okc is full of hardcore and shoegaze. I recommend Downward, Money, and Most Kudos.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I mainly write based off of what I want to hear in the cultural and musical conversation. I haven’t heard much of what we’re doing and it drives us to cut our teeth on cultivating a fresh new sound.
6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)
Asa writes all of his lyrics where he deals with themes of existential dread, being unsure of where you’re at in life (sifting through), thoughts and thought patterns being trapped in your head (linger), and shitty bosses (wake up).
7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)
Yeah we write all of our own songs, it usually starts with me picking away in my room trying to capture a feeling or musical idea and then bringing it to the guys so it just becomes a big soup of everyone’s ideas. Aaron (other guitarist) also writes for DREAMSICKLE in the same way. Everyone is a contributor to the creative process which helps our sound represent every one of us individually.
8. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We have released 3 singles (linger, wake up, and sifting through) with plans of dropping 2 EP’s this year. If you listen to DREAMSICKLE expect to cry your eyes out while banging your head off the walls.
9. Do you have any new music in the works?
Tons. We have about 2 EP’s and some change of unreleased material.
10. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
We play consistently in the okc-Tulsa scene. I’m currently trying to book us a tour heading out northwest.
11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We will become a part of the cultural conversation of our generation. We want our music to serve as a voice for those who need to hear it.
12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
We’re on Spotify, Apple Music, and all other streaming services! We have merch for sale via Instagram DM and we can ship!
