Chasing Sounds Gives Us the Origin of Themselves

Chasing Sounds began back in the summer of 2013, since then songs were written, the band slowly forming together creating a full on line-up of course. In due time videos were made, recording of an album was done, and then shows and touring would follow. The band took some time to discuss how their name came to be, how their music got it's start, what they have released and have planned next.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We are Chasing Sounds a melodic HC/Punk band based in Vienna Austria. I'm Attila one of the founding members I play bass and try to "sing" harsh backing vocals in the band. I'm the song wirter, and since I compose mainly on guitar I record all the guitars & bass in the studio as well. The band was ''officially'' formed by Mate (drums) and myself on Aug. 8th 2013 which means, it was the day when we put together our very first song ''Knock Out'' which later became our first single along with a Music Video to it as well. Mate and me knew each other since elementary school, and we've been in our first garage band together back in 2005. We managed to broke up before we even had a singer or a gig. We remained friends tho, hung out and knew it way before that were gonna end up in a real band together. The only question was when. It took us ''only'' 8 years to get our shit together. So everything was planned, it wasn't just a lucky coincidence. In early 2015 Florian (singer) and Mate K. (guitar) finalized our line up, so I moved backed to my beloved bass.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

That's an awesome story, we had the band name way before we had any material written or we even went to jam under the name Chasing Sounds. It was one of those average high school night outs, me (Attila) Mate and another friend of ours were hanging out drinking and smoking at Mate's Grandma's basement. Our usual spot to hang out after going thru all the bars in Bratislava. We were pretty drunk and under the influence of other substances, listening to some weird electro music, playing around with words Mate spat out Chasing Sounds. We knew it at that very moment that this will be our bandname if we ever manage to put a band together. I remember this like it was yesterday. This was around 2010.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The band is based in Vienna Austria, I don't really know any band in this area which plays similar music to ours. The band Show your teeth is great I think they're from Vienna, so check them out. I know a few other local bands too but I don't really like them, so I don't wanna recommend something, which I wouldn't even listen to...If you want some awesome bands who deserve more recognition check out: Skywalker from the Czech Republic Darko & Dead Neck from the UK or Straightline from Germany.

4. How would you describe your style?

The genre we play defined itself, since I'm the songwriter in the band it just came naturally what I play. I'm heavily influenced by pop punk, nu/metal, hardcore all the 90's stuff even some rap and pop but that can't be heard in our music of course. So does Mate, it's just the music we grow up listening to as kids. We try to take all the best hooks and parts we like in these musical styles. Probably the easiest way to label us is melodic hardcore punk.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Our debut album ''Elektrobioscope'' came out on December 3rd 2015  I think there is a little bit of everything, on this album people who listen to Hardcore, Metal, Punk or any other sub-genre of this music will find, at least one song which they will like. Just take the opening song ''Here we Are'' it's an instant throwback to the 90's skatepunk scene, fans of fast paced bands like Pennywise, No Use For a Name  and similar will probably like it. Another song ''Spirit of AC'' is again very pop/punk driven like late 90's blink 182 it's got that Dude Ranch feel to it. An album which created a musical milestone in my life, and if anyone wonders what does ''AC'' stands for it's Atlantic City the place were we hung out and got the inspiration, for this song. Moving on to other songs on the album ''Corrupted Bullshit'' ''Knock Out'' ''False Flag Attack'' are straight up old school hardcore songs, with a great portion of NYHC vibe. Fans of Madball, H2O, Biohazard, Agnostic Front should check them out. Especially when we perform them live, that's  where all the energy comes out, and if the crowd is feeling it those are the best moments of our shows. Then we got the title track ''Elektrobioscope'' & ''Yesterday's no Different'' which are the more serious songs, and definitely the best ones on the whole record. Judge it yourself and give it a go, the album is on our Bandcamp page you can download it for FREE! We got 3 music videos on YouTube for the songs: ''Knock Out'' ''False Flag Attack'' & ''Yesterday's no Different''.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We've already got 12-14 new songs written and we are finishing the demo process of our 2nd album. We are looking for a new lead singer because Flo had left the band. Our last gigs with him will be in January. So if you live in Vienna or anywhere else but your able to work with us and you can sing properly, don't hesitate to contact us.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We've got a lot of stuff planned, but everything's in a very early stage so I prefer to say more later on. We are trying to get on the bill of two bigger bands as a support, for their tour so cross your fingers, we really hope it will work out. It would shift our band on a new level.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Record and release our 2nd Album, make more music videos and tour as much as possible, everywhere where we get a chance to play. Also we would love to get on to some festivals.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Check out our Facebook, the whole album is on our Bandcamp to download for FREE our check out and subscribe to our YouTube channel, all the music videos & our debut record is up there too.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The chorus of one of our songs, if the listener likes it it might stuck in his-her head and will listen to the songs over and over again. When I discover new music, I might need some time to like the song and will might come back to it. If there's a great hook in it our something, they've won me over. There's is nothing better when the crowd is singing along to your songs, were still not there, maybe one day. Then I'll say all these years of hard work were totally worth it.
