Children Of Atom Discusses New Music, Single, and More!

Psy-fi rocker band CHILDREN OF ATOM have released their debut album, an EP, and a second full-length is on the way come this next year too! Plus an all new single is expected out soon as well, along with the band just making more music, with some other stuff in the works too. See what else the band discussed with us below!

1. Please tell us a bit about the band.

Children of Atom is a 4 piece “Psy-Fi Rock” band from eastern Washington state consisting of Michael Fenris (Vocals/Guitar), Myles Weaver (Bass/Vocals), Shane Birdsill (Keys), and Josh McClure (Drums). Lots of fuzzed out riffs, raunchy grooves, and retro psychedelia with a dose of heavy metal.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Most people assume the name is a reference to the Fallout series of videogames, but I (singer/guitarist Michael) actually pulled the play-on-words for the band’s name straight out of late 90s X-Men comics. Originally the idea was to have a sort of comic book crossover concept band, but outgrew that idea almost immediately as song writing started to happen. We’re still really interested in doing a limited run of comics if the opportunity ever presents itself.

3. Where are you based and what is your music scene like there?

We are based out of Spokane in eastern Washington state. The music scene here isn’t particularly large, especially compared to the western side of the state, but a surprising number of really talented folks live and play here and Spokane definitely has some killer, standout bands across the genre spectrum. We get a sort of “best of both worlds” kind of scenario here with both a small, tight-knit community, but with an eclectic talent pool full of heavy hitters.

4. How would you describe your style?

We kind of genre bend a bit, so it's sometimes hard to pin down an answer to that, but people usually classify us as stoner rock, psych rock, or heavy metal depending on which songs are in our set. We started calling it psy-fi rock a while back and I think that kind of vaguely gets the idea across.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We’ve released a full length self-titled album with our original three-piece lineup as well as an EP in 2021, and our most recent single Bloodlust Boogie is available to stream now. We’re currently tracking a second full length album for release next year.

6. Tell us a bit about this new video that’s dropping,

We’re releasing a lyric video for our most recent single Bloodlust Boogie December 15th on The Obelisk. Big thanks to them for hosting the video premier. A lot of folks have been asking for us to share more of our lyrics so this is kind of for them.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’re focused-in on recording at the moment, but we’ve got some stuff in the works for early 2023. Follow us on socials to see upcoming shows and tours.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Keep making music. Keep sharing it with the people that dig it. Hopefully keep doing it bigger and better every time. It’s kind of a hard industry to put too many expectations on. We’re just trying to play rock ‘n’ roll and have some fun, and share that with as many people as we can!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

All our music and merch is available on our Bandcamp page or stream our music on Spotify or whatever streaming service you use.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

I hope they remember hearing something different and that they’d wanna hear again, and I hope they recall whatever good time they were having when they heard it.
