The Venus Fly Trap Says Lots on Music and the Future Plans in the Works!

Goth, dark wave, post punk, electronica band THE VENUS FLY TRAP have been around for sometime now, releasing content over time of course. More music is on the way, with shows in the works as well. The band goes on to say a lot in regards to their time together over the years.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We first formed in 1986...so the line up has fluctuated/changed over the years...the members are at the moment and has been for a few years Alex Novak-vox and Andy Denton-guitar/programming, Andy was the drummer at one time...its been part of vfts dna, change brings in different influences and ideas.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I liked the idea of a plant that eats insects...plus all the connections with mythology (venus the goddess of love), and the planets like venus and mars, science fiction, plenty of room for images and inspiration.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in Northampton (home of Bauhaus and Alan Moore), current bands/artists causing a stir from the locale include slowthai, ginger snaps, phantom isle (now based in London), spring park, temples, barratts, keepers etc....some good independent live venues black prince, lab, garibaldi and for bigger bands road mender.

4. How would you describe your style?

Post-punk electronica..."bladerunner rock n roll wearing dark acidic shades" is a good quote...think joy division/doors/chemical brothers...you will be getting into the right area.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have done eight albums over the years..the most recent icon came out last year on glass modern.
Its always been an eclectic mix of influences on our music...but if you like your dark electronica we could be the ones for you.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

A best of venus fly trap/alex novak-mercurial will be out it covers vft and all the other bands/projects I have been involved with, again that will be available as a CD and download via glass modern.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Dates from May onward to promote the releases...I'm sorting dates and they will be announced...you can check on our Facebook.com/thevenusflytrapuk.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We'll be re-issuing our back catalog,we have already re-released our first album "Mars". We'll be doing the next two called "Totem" and "Pandoras Box" hopefully later this year.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Check our Facebook and Glass Records Modern, Bandcamp...distribution is by cargo.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We're trying to create music for imaginary films in your mind...would really like to have a track on a Tarantino movie soundtrack. We do albums that need to be listened from beginning to end...take the listener on a sonic outing over the hills and far away...
