Lord Of the Lost's Gared Gets Lost in the Fiery Flames

Combining an array of genres of goth, rock, metal, glam, and electro Lord Of the Lost made their debut appearance on a recent U.S. tour along with releasing their latest album "From The Flame Into The Fire" with plans of more touring, music, and more! Multi-purpose personal Gared Dirge in charge of piano, guitars, additional drums and a tad of vocals discussed these matters!

1. Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Lord Of The Lost?

Gared: Hi, I'm Gared Dirge and I'm the multi-purpose whore of Lord Of The Lost, which means Piano, Guitars, additional Percussion Drums and a bit of Vocals.

2. Can I get a backstory on the band/ band biography?

Gared: Yes, on our Facebook page and on the german Wikipedia

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Gared: We're based in St. Pauli in Hamburg, Germany. The scene here is properly existent and very loyal.

4. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Gared: Being called LORD first, a guy of our label came up with the name Lord Of The Lost give it a more unique touch and to avoid confusion with similar sounding bands like LORDI and such...

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Gared: Everything from Roxette over Lady GaGa up to HIM, Rammstein and Manson. Even classical music is one of the influences. So basically: Everything we listen to.

6. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Gared: There is not THAT ONE particular message for us. We like to play around with topics like religion, sex, love, a bit of social criticism and from time to time everything of the afore mentioned mixed together.

7. What have you released so far and how were your releases received by the public/media?

Gared: We have released 4 albums, 1 EP, 1 Live Album, an unplugged Piano/Vocal DVD, a DVD of us together with an orchestra and several singles. All we can say about the reception is that the public appeal seems to rise more and more, there have been no major drops in the last 5 years, since the band exists.

8. Do you play live as well? How's your live activity so far?

Gared: Besides producing albums, playing live is one of our main activities and the most important way to get your stuff out there. The media often refers to us as "They're literally touring their asses off!". I guess that sums it up pretty well.

9. You had made your first U.S. appearance on the Nothing Can Stop Us Tour with MurderFM and
Fashion Bomb - what do you hope to achieve by coming over?

It was our first U.S. tour and it was a huge adventure and one of the greatest experiences we've had so far. We definitely want to repeat this as soon as it's possible.

10. What did you do to prepare yourselves for that tour?

Gared: Well, you know... nothing special. Just a releasing a big bunch of records and doing a fuckload of touring over the last 5 years in order to already have some fans in the U.S. that would come to see us live. And it all worked out pretty fine.

11. Can you describe your show, visually and musically for us?

Gared: Energetic, dirty, sexy and a bit of romantic. But you better come yourself and check it out!

12. What do you do to get ready for a show?

Gared: Our main ritual is putting our make-up on. In that way we're together, having fun and at the same time get into the right mood for the show. We don't get boozed up, we don't need that.

13. What is your favorite song to play live (from any release)?

Gared: That changes from tour to tour and even from show to show. These days I'm quite fond of La Bomba. Really cheers me up to see usually-serious-goth-crowds partying to this song with big smiles on their faces!

14. What’s the best and worst shows you've ever played?

Gared: Naming a worst show would be unfair and I even think there is nothing like a worst show for us. The best show(s) definitely were at M'era Luna Festival 2013 and a 1100-people sold-out headliner show in our hometown of Hamburg on our past tour.

15. What's one venue or place you'd love to play in?

Gared: Although it's a pretty far goal, I'd really love to play at Radio City Music Hall in NYC or Budokan in Tokyo.

16. What do you miss most from home when you’re on tour?

Gared: I try not to miss anything and I mostly succeed with that. In that way I don't compromise myself and the tour in any way.

17. Speaking of performing you released a live CD called "We Give Our Hearts - Live auf St. Pauli" from that exposure is that what can be expected from one of your shows?

Gared: Surely you can't capture the whole energy of a live show on a little 80 minute plastic disc without any visual feedback, unlike a DVD or being present at the show itself, but I think we managed to deliver a proper impression of our shows so the listener gets teased to visit our shows in "real life", in case he/she hasn't already been on one.

18. Aside from that release what else is new in the recording or writing of your music?

Gared: We've just released our fourth studio album, called "From The Flame Into The Fire", but even prior to the release we already started to write new material for the fifth album. That's how we roll. Our wheels are in constant motion, stagnation is the enemy.

19. What should labels/zines/promoters know about your band? Why should they be interested in it?

Gared: We're five sexy guys who, well visible to everyone, have huge loads of fun at what they're doing. Although we didn't re-invent the wheel, I guess we deliver a fresh version of dark and goth-inspired heavy music, serious, but yet with a proper dose of positive-ness and fun. This 80's gothic clichee "everything sucks"-attitude is kind of outdated, isn't it?

20. What plans do you have for the near future as a band?

Gared: As mentioned above, we just come from a headliner tour and released our fourth album right after that, so now we'll have a few summer open airs, the second part of our headliner tour in September and a few more things we can't tell yet. So stay tuned!

21. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Gared: You can listen to us on our live shows, on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and most record stores. That and our label's mail order is where you can purchase our stuff: www.outoflineshop.de.

22. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Gared: We can't tell anyone what to remember. Everyone has different feelings and emotions about our music and music in general. But we appreciate anyone that will continue listening to us after listeing to us for the first time and probably become a fan.

23. Anything else you'd like to say or would like to add?

Gared: Yes, that this particular question is the most frequent one in interviews and thus one of the hardest to answer. I'll just go for the standard, but nonetheless from the bottom of our hearts: Greetings from the world's most beautiful city to the world's greatest fans. Thanks for your boundless support and hopefully see you soon on the road!
