War Torn Angel's Davey Nicewander Talks The Depths and Distances with Life

Metalcore post hardcore act War Torn Angel have released their debut EP "Depth/Distance" with that they have a whole lot more in-store. Guitarist Davey Nicewander Discusses their latest EP and upcoming plans!

1. Can I get a backstory on the band/band biography?

Davey: Well, the band was started in 2010. We had a few lineup changes here and there. Eventually, we built up a pretty good local following and started to branch out. We signed with the Sights Set North Agency for management purposes earlier this year. Touring has now become more of a regular thing. We just released our new EP "Depth/Distance" on September 17th. The only direction is up from now on!

2. How did you guys come up with your band name?

Davey: There isn't really an answer to that. It was kind of created by one of our former members and we just kinda roll with it.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Davey: Bluefield, VA. The scene here isn't very great, but we still proudly represent it. It's had its ups and downs. We definitely recommend our dudes in Reveler the guys in Motion Theatre.

4. What lyrical theme do you guys use in your music? What message do you want to send?

Davey: We like to touch on everything really. Mostly real life experiences we've all been through. We want people to know that they have to stand up for themselves and what they believe. Also, that nothing will be given to you, you have to earn it.

5. What bands have influenced your band and its sound?

Davey: Definitely Fit For A King, The Plot In You, Like Moths To Flames, The Color Morale, and Secrets.

6. Is there any story or concept behind the Depth/Distance title?

Davey: Yes, actually! The idea is that depth is more important than distance. Meaning, if you're working towards a goal, what you learn from the journey (depth) is more important than achieving the goal itself (distance).

7. Who produced Depth/Distance and what was it like working with them?

Davey: Taylor Larson at Oceanic Recording. That dude's a genius. We absolutely loved working with him.
He's very laid back and that made the process fun. We definitely feel like we made a friend working on this EP.

8. Who did the cover art for Depth/Distance and how much input did you have on it?

Davey: Ben Mota at Axis Design. Very little. We just turned it over to him and he worked his magic. Highly recommend his work.

9. Select two songs from Depth/Distance and what inspired the lyrics.

Davey: Dead Hands is about someone you truly trusted stabbing you in the back. It's pretty much a call out to people spineless enough to go behind their friends' backs. Widowmaker is about standing up for yourself and fighting to win no matter the circumstances.

10. Do you guys have plans to release a full-length album in the future?

Davey: Yes! Hopefully sometime in late 2014.

11. What are your upcoming touring/show plans?

Davey: We're not looking at touring again until summer 2014. We play shows almost every weekend though.

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Davey: www.wartornangel.bandcamp.com! Or check us out on Facebook: www.facebook.com/wartornangel

13. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Davey: The lyrics and the meaning behind them.

14. What can the fans expect to see from you in the future?

Davey: Hopefully, a full length as soon as possible. Maybe a we'll release a single or two until that time comes. ;)

15. Any final words of wisdom?

Davey: If you want something bad enough, go get it. Make it happen. Work hard and don't ever stop.
