Europe’s Music Festivals 2018: Where to Go with Your Girlfriend


If you’re going to spend your summer vacation with your girlfriend and you are big music fans, then the best choice for you, would be to visit some of the music festivals. Apart from listening to your favorite singers and bands, it is a great way to explore new cities, locations, as these festivals are often held off the beaten track of designated location. There are many different types of entertainment during these festivals, involving art, crafts, and food. A festival in another county is a nice occasion to meet new people, interact with the locals and practice the language. Depending on your customary level of comfort, you can pick a preferable accommodation - a hotel room or a sleeping bag in a camping zone.

Now Europe hosts a lot of music festivals throughout the summer, so the choice is quite bewildering. However, it means some of them will fall on your vacation and you will be able to choose the one that will suit you and your girlfriend's tastes. FESTIVALS:

Primavera Sound

When: 30 May – 3 June 2018
Where: Barcelona, Spain

Headliners: Bjork, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The National, Arctic Monkeys, Migos, Lorde, A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator, The War on Drugs, CHVRCHES, Haim, and Vince Staples.

This Spanish festival is known for being the event with the best line-up on the continent. Every year, Primavera gathers the best rock, indie, and pop performers. The festival takes place at the Parc del Forum, a large area at the waterfront.

Open’er

When: 4-7 July 2018
Where: Gdynia, Poland

Lineup: Arctic Monkeys, Depeche Mode, Migos, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Gorillaz, Kaleo, Young Thug, Bruno Mars, Massive Attack, and La Femme.

Open’er is a budget Polish festival at the Baltic Sea, on the former military airfield Kosakowo. It always impresses with solid line-ups and diverse genres. This year is not an exception. The Open’er program offers a lot of activities during the festival in the kids zone, sport zone, and NGO zone.

Sziget

When: 8-15 August 2018
Where: Budapest

Headliners: Kendrick Lamar, Kygo, Mumford & Sons
Lineup: Clean Bandit, Above & Beyond, Ummet Ozcan, Dua Lipa, Lana Del Rey, Arctic Monkeys, Shawn Mendes, Zara Larsson, and Lykke Li.

This week-long festival is a real treat for the fans of absolutely all kinds of music. This August, Sziget will gather big names in the capital of Hungary. Every festival day has a saturated program, which means you will not get bored. Going from Budapest to Sziget you’ll kill two birds with one stone: you’ll explore this beautiful city and see your favorite artists. The festival will take place on an island in the Danube, so camping is available.

Rock Werchter

When: 5-8 July 2018
Where: near Leuven, Belgium

Lineup: Queens Of The Stone Age, Gorillaz, The Script, The Killers, London Grammar, Pearl Jam, The White Buffalo, Tom Walker, Stone Sour, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, Nine Inch Nails, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds.

Want to see all rock stars at once? Rock Werchter is the festival for you. It’s a huge rock music festival held since 1976. The daily audience during the festival is around 90,000 music fans. It is held near a picturesque Belgium town of Leuven, inhabited mainly by students. But it seems that all of Europe flocks there during festival time.

Heineken Jazzaldia

When: 25-29 July 2018
Where: San Sebastian, Spain

For more than 50 years, San Sebastian hosts a legendary jazz festival. Many outstanding talents performed at this festival's prior years. Among them are Charles Mingus, Ella Fitzgerald, Dizzy Gillespie, Ray Charles. If you are a fan of jazz, don’t miss this festival, if you happen to be in Spain this summer. This year, the festival expects to hear Gregory Porter, Chick Corea Akoustic Band, Brad Mehldau Trio, and Kenny Barron Quintet.
