Charly a French Multi-Talent in the Arts of Music, Film, and More!

Artistic Charly always wanted to be an active creator in the music sense, but has branded herself to someone so much more. Having her skill set develop into an expansion of other forms of media, film, sound design, multi-instrumentalist, as well as the obvious singer and songwriter. Charly just released an EP "Film Scores", with even newer music underway, with more plans awaiting in no time at all. She goes into discussion about the EP, her ways with the arts and more!

1. Please tell us about the history of your project?

I discovered my passion for composing music for film at the Academy of Art University of San Francisco two years ago. Since then, I am working with filmmakers on short movies on the side of my performer projects. I had the chance to do an internship with a really talented film composer Peace S. Nistades who taught me a lot.

2. What’s the origin of the project's name?

Charly is my artist name. I used to dress (I still dress this way time to time) with stripe shirt and jeans with a beanie like the comic character Waldo. And in France, where I was born, Waldo’s name is Charlie. That was my nickname when I was younger. I think I change the “IE” for a “Y” because I thought it sounded more American. Teenagers are weird. *laughs*

3. Where is your project based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

I am a French singer, songwriter, film composer, sound designer and multi-instrumentalist based in LA. The music scene is pretty cool there. A lot of people curious to discover new music and artists.
For local bands/artists I would recommends Buddhi De Mal, Tarah Who?, The Sutra, Charly&Faust, No Small Children, The King Washingtons.

4. How would you describe your style?

When I have to compose a music for a film, I try to not stick to one specific style. But I am for sure more a songwriter than a symphony composer. When it is about my personal music, I creat more in a folk-rock genre.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I just released an EP "Film Scores" combining songs I created for several short movies in the past few years. I got the chance to be pushed by Peace S. Nistades who worked on this project with me. Gerhard Wesphalen mixed and mastered it.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes I am actually in the process of recording my new solo EP for my artist solo project. I am working on it with Eric Reymond who plays bass and produce the EP with me and Coralie Hervé who plays drums on it. It is really important for me to work with them. We are part of the same band and we work really well together.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Playing shows is something I already do. And I might do it soon with my solo project too. We might also tour soon with my band Charly&Faust.

8. What plans do you have for the future?

Continue what I am doing and do the best I can to succeed in these different adventures.

9. Where can we listen to your project and where can we buy your stuff?

You can find all these information on my website www.charlysolo.com.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Feelings I am trying to communicate to them.
