The Fearless Vampire Killers: Tales of fear, death, and bloodshed

1967 would be the year that fear would be sunk into the lives of the living. The Fearless Vampire Killers was a film embedded with a love story one that would vanquish all of those living and those who were already dead. Thus this title would be taken into account for one London quartet claiming that they themselves aren’t exactly the undead but they try their best to kill those who are. So when it comes down to it what are they exactly? Well it’s simple they are the Fearless Vampire Killers!

They come from a world called Grandomina, it's a concept that they've come up with and want people to take what they want from the songs and apply it to their own lives, as the lyrics are metaphorical, and are a mask for real experiences both foretold and yet to be told.

Since the age of 15 the band had been playing with one another in other projects before developing their current project of two years, the Fearless Vampire Killers. People have called their style of music to be "Death-Pop" and they have to agree with that because it's what they do and they do it the best way possible.

“Palace in Flames”, is the single that jumped started the band and will continue to absorb the deaths, kills, and fearless nights of these Vampire killers.

1. Does the name Fearless Vampire Killers have anything to do with the 1967 film of the same name?

Laurence: Yes it does. As a kid my dad showed me the film and it really set my whole obsession with vampires in motion. It was also a great love story.

2. How long has the band been together and where are you guys from?

Laurence: This band's been together for about two years, but we've been playing in bands with each other since we were 15. We come from a place called the Waveney valley which forms the border between Suffolk and Norfolk. I guess our home town is Beccles, though Shane is actually from somewhere called Weston. We live together in our secret invisible castle in north London now.

3. What genre of music do you consider your work to be? Who are your major influences?

Laurence: We get asked this question all the time and it's really hard to answer as we're trying our best to fit in any box and make one of our own. People have called us death-pop and we think that kind of goes with what we do. When it comes to bands we're into, we're super into glam; Bowie, Queen, Roxy music, as well as a lot of punk, and hardcore stuff like Comeback Kid, Every Time I Die, and He Is Legend. We spend most free time we have watching films, so I think that theatrical influence really comes across in the songs.

4. How can fans-to-be gain access to your music? Do you have a website with sample songs or a demo CD?

Laurence: Yeah http://fearlessvampirekillers.co.uk/ you can get a free mp3 of Palace in Flames on there and we almost always have someone online to talk too on Facebook.

5. Can you tell me about the music video you have for the song "Palace in Flames"?

Kier: In this band we have a very definite image we need to put across, so after scraping together our meagre effects, we shot it at this brilliant Victorian pumping station in south east London. We had a great time filming there and were even invited back to turn on the pump at this open day. It was AWESOME!

6. Have you had any record labels approach you guys with an offer or not yet?

Laurence: I'm not sure we fit into anyone’s slot at the moment; it's hard for them to see where we fit in where a lot of them are looking at the wrong jigsaw. What's more we're not really after a record contract, we just want to play shows and build our fan base organically, then if everything collapses we only fall a couple of feet.

7. What about the lyrical content does that deal with the whole Vampire thing or is it more than that?

Laurence: It's definitely more than that. Our songs all fit to a concept we've come up with about this world called Grandomina. But we really hope people can also take what they want from the songs and apply them to their own lives, as the lyrics are metaphorical, they're a mask for real experiences.

8. Are you guys Vampires? Or is that something we'd just have to figure out for ourselves?

Laurence: Not exactly... We try our best to kill them though.

9. What does the Fearless Vampire Killers have in store for this year?

Laurence: We've just finished a new E.P which we'll be releasing very soon. We've also set things into motion for our new video, so we're really looking forward to that. We've got some big plans, so let’s see where they go.

10. Do you have any last words?

Laurence: Thank you ever so much for taking the time to interview us; I guess we just want to tell everyone to watch out. The Heartataks are coming....
