The Trousers Chats of New Album, Show Playing, and Doing It All Again!

Garage hard rockers THE TROUSERS have released an array of releases, even a cover EP release, with an upcoming album expected later this year! Plans for now, include release more music, play more places, and do it all again, and again, and again! The band chats with us about this all below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was formed in 2005, our first record came out in 2008, but the first “real” The Trousers album was released in 2010 (“Soul machine”). In 2013 “Freakbeat” gave us kind of “breakthrough”, as we got very good reviews in our home country and internationally too. The album was nominated as “the best rock album of 2013” in Hungary, and featured legendary The Hellacopters-boss, Nicke Andersson on guitar on a song. Ever since we have released three more LPs (“Mother of Illusion, 2015; “Invisble darkness”, 2018; “Animal gun”, 2022) and an EP of covers (“Garage nights re-visited”, 2024). The albums always get 7 to 10/10 reviews at home and in international press, our songs are being played in international underground radios, which shows that the band is constantly evolving. In the last 15 years The Trousers have played at several festivals and hundreds of club gigs in Denmark, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Czehia, Slovakia, Romania, Serbia. As a support band we have played with Black Stone Cherry (USA), MC5 (USA). Atomic Bitchwax (USA), Dirty Honey (USA), Honky (USA), Tygers of Pan Tang (UK), Peter Hook & The Light (USA), Peter Pan Speedrock (NL), The Blue Van (DK), Barb Wire Dolls (GR) and Konflikt (SK). Actually we are working on the 7th LP called “Necessary Evil.

Members:

Zoltan Kovary – vocals, guitar
Peter Locke – guitar
András Lázár – bass
Antal Samu Gulyás - drums

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

It started as a joke, when we were formed every band was called “The …s”, like The White Stripes, The Hives, etc… So we decided to become The Trousers, which looks similar although grammatically singular. It also looks very good on our logo. Trousers has complex symbolic meanings, too,

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

Budapest, Hungary. When we started there were several garage bands or “hard” indie bands around, but they all disbanded, and music scene internationally locally and internationally is less guitar or rock-oriented then 20 years ago. In Hungary lyric oriented alternative pop music is the most popular. The metal scene is strong, and every famous band has a local tribute version. Some original rock n roll bands still exist, like The Hallucinatorz or Diklam Tedik, we usually play together.

4. How would you describe your style?

When we are asked to describe our style with three bands we have a problem. Our roots are in late 60’s (The Rolling Stones, The Stooges) and 70’s rock n roll/Hard rock (Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Motörhead, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, early punk). but we also love the 80’s (Mötley Crüe, The Cult, Metallica), the 90’s (Alice in Chains, Monster Magnet) and 00’s (The Hellacopters, Queens of the Stone Age, BRMC). We usually call it “garage rock/hard rock”.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Planetary process (2008)
Soul machine (2010)
Freakbeat (2013)
Mother of illusion (2015)
Invisible darkness (2018)
Animal gun (2022)
Garage nights re-visited (cover EP, 2024)

The band operates with heavy riffs but very song-oriented, melodic and catchy with some rock n roll swagger punkish energy. Imagine the mixture of Black Sabbath, the Stones, Cheap Trick and Sex Pistols:😊

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes, “Necessary evil” our 7th album is coming out this autumn, we have already released a single called “Second hand suicide”.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

In the summer we are finishing the LP which is half ready. We will have an album release show here in Budapest, but we plan to play live in the cities of Central Europe (Ljubljana, Vienna, Bratislava), as usually. We got some plans with our old friends, Degradace form Ostrava, Czehia.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

We’d like to keep on releasing good records until we have fresh ideas and to play in more countries all over Europe. Our dream is to support a bigger band in Western Europe for about a 2 weeks tour.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We are everywhere, Spotify, Youtube, Deezer, ITunes, Apple Music…The latest single:

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
Thunderous guitar riffs, raw but sophisticated sound, and cool, smart compositions with catchy hooks.
