Radioactive Pineapple Talks of EP and Tours!

Punks RADIOACTIVE PINAPPLE have an upcoming EP expected out soon, with previous releases by its original members as well. Some tours are in the works and shows as well, with more music to come too! The band talks of these matters and much else below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

We’re a pop/skate punk band from Helsinki, Finland formed in 2014. We started as a cliché and practiced in the garage of our drummer’s parents for a couple of years. The first day of band practice was extremely stereotypical Finnish behaviour, we hardly talked and then as complete strangers went naked into a hot wooden hut (aka sauna), where we then decided that this band is now officially a thing. After years of trial and error, disaster and mistakes, we finally settled down to our current lineup: Ozzie (vocalist/guitarist), Thoubi (drummer), Jake (vocalist/bassist) and our newest addition Johnsson (guitarist). The whole history of this band has been a rollercoaster of emotions, at this point it has almost turned into a second family. There has been lots of horrible events in the past but we just laugh about it now, an old bandmate fell through a glass door at a sauna right before a show, another old bandmate injured his arm so he couldn’t play for a year, Ozzie had to attend a funeral the same day we had a show. Life just keeps giving you obstacles, but there’s no use in giving up. The show must go on!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

Ozzie tried to come up with the worst band name possible. He had a page full of names, but Radioactive Pineapple was ultimately the worst one. So we kept that one.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

The whole punk scene in Finland seems extremely compact and dull, loads of songs are about drinking beer and the most successful Finnish punk bands usually sing in Finnish, so we’re not too sure if we’ll ever fit into the scene. We’re dreaming of touring other countries and seeing how different the scene can be. There are cool small bands though! For example Glass Wipe is pretty cool, we’ve done some shows together and the dudes in Amanita Story are nice as well.

4. How would you describe your style?

We are heavily inspired by the Californian punk scene, so that gives that “Tony Hawk ProSKater” vibe with a hint of DIY spirit. We don’t want to sound too cocky now, but otherwise we think that we are pretty authentic. We pride ourselves in that we try to keep things as “pineapple” as possible.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Our original members, Ozzie and Thoubi  went on to release an EP Horses Wearing Horses (2018) and then after a while Ozzie, Thoubi and Jake released an album: YES! (2022) completely DIY. You can expect some super catchy choruses with manic depressive lyrical content.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’re currently in the recording phase of a new EP, we’re not sure when it will be out yet or what it will be called, but you can follow our progress on Instagram, Facebook and other social websites. We think it will turn out awesome!

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

We’ve done small venues and festivals in the past, it’s great to see those small places packed with all your friends and fans, but we’re trying to get somewhere new. We are working on some “mini” tours, shows and festivals right now. There’s a possibility that we are going to do a tour from Finland to Sweden with Glass Wipe and a Swedish band called Astro-Lloyd in October 2023. If everything will turn out right, we might even go to Denmark! But time will tell, we’ll see how things turn out. These couple of months we are mainly focusing on the EP with some local shows.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our ultimate plan is to play shows, create music, drink beer and have an awesome time in the process. What more can you really ask for? Life is for living!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our music can be found on Spotify and every major music streaming service.  You can follow our journey on Instagram, Facebook, and all the other giant social websites. At the moment of writing our merch can only be purchased at shows or by contacting us directly, but we might start selling merchandise online as well in the near future.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

We would like to give the impression that we are not just some regular punk band, we want to imprint the thought that we are an original and authentic band to our listeners. We are not trying to be rockstars, we are Radioactive Pineapple, and that’s a whole another vibe itself!
