BAR II Discusses Music, Formation and More!

Rockin band BAR II have an EP out and about, with a handful of new tracks in the works already, but no shows are set just yet, but more music is in the works for now, just wanting to spread the word about the music! See what the band discusses about this and more below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

Bar II is the reunion of Mr Du Penfast and BARThom, two accomplished musicians who discovered that they were both not satisfied with their previous production experiences, but had complementary skills to make something cool, which resulted in their debut EP ‘Wake Up’.

Mr Du Penfast, headphones on, QOTSA intravenously, shaggy hair, passed his thirties, recording and producing albums for others, realises that rock can still surprise. But to him, an artistic void persists. Between brutalizing his guitar, attacking his drums, or going mad on his bass, he’s looking for something.

BARThom, dealing branding and media between the Brussels Leopold Quarter and Reyers, is called “El Mediator”. He appears to be calm on the outside, but has a storm raging inside him. It is while screaming in front of a garbage can that he crosses the paths with Mister one October night.

The inner anger they mutually recognize will turn out to be the foundation that will bind these two, apparently very different, lads together.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

You can think that music can be heard in a bar too…But no, to them, it’s a turning page. A second bar of this life score, for them and for what they think to be humanity. It’s a musical metaphor to say “what is next?”…for now it’s BAR II.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are from Brussels, Belgium, where music scene is very eclectic, which is great. We like a lot Soulwax or Deus for the famous ones, and for the young scene you should listen to Brutus for the energy, Starcrawler for fun, and Charles for huge grace, they are all awesome!

4. How would you describe your style?

I think it’s rock, stoner maybe, a bit of metal somewhere, punk or garage by bits, but definitely, power melodic rock for sure. It has to smack the brain.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

For now we produced and released 6 tracks, split into 4 releases during the last 2 years. It’s a 6 tracks EP at the end, called WAKE UP!!. So now because we are awaken, we are going to the next step, news songs, new production, more accuracy in what we need to express. More surprises, more punch, more harmonies, well more good music for sure.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Three promising tracks are on the grill, maybe 4 others after…always keep creating anyway.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Nothing for now, BAR II is a studio production band so far, we have a lot to express this way, shows are cool when it’s maid by for “show-of” people, we are not like that these days...maybe later, we’ll see.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Produce songs and try to invent online events to spread good music maybe in the Metaverse who knows!

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our EP is available on any streaming platform ( Spotify, Soundcloud, Apple music, Tidal, Amazon, Youtube, Tiktok).

If you have any doubt: or

To buy stuff go to

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

The energy and the hook (the one which stay the most in his head, probably many).
