Mezko Caught Up to Discuss an All New EP and Single!

Australians Mezko, is a duo act whose most recent EP release called "Syzgy" is making quite the buzz, and since releasing their latest single as well titled "They Like. We Like.", everything is turning up for them! With that, the duo caught up to discuss the matters about these releases and the future plan of events ahead.

1. So then, how did you guys meet and how did Mezko form?

The first time we met up was at bar called Shady Pines. Laura was very late and showed up drinking from a coconut, which I thought was quite strange. I decided I needed this person in my life, as I’m the kind of person who is always on time and never drinks from coconuts. We balanced each other well from the start. These days I’m late sometimes and sometimes drink from coconuts.

2. What was it, that got you into music and made you want to start a band?

A band is like a socially acceptable gang. You get all the loyalty, sense of belonging and good times a gang would offer, but you make music instead of meth. I’ve been playing guitar since I was 10 so my skills are more suited to a band.

3. How would you describe the style of music that your band creates and plays together?

Glitter on black.

4. A new EP titled "SYZYGY" is now out, where did the inspiration for the EP come from and why?

We’d been working on about six songs for this EP and through the process of recording it we realised these three fit together in this orbit of individuals. That’s kinda what ‘syzygy’ means.

5. From that EP comes a single called "They Like. We Like", tell me about it?

It is what it is. We didn’t think too much about this song in order to preserve what was good about it. We put a lot of time and thought into the other two songs on this EP, but this one just happened and we wanted to keep it that way. Sometimes the first thing you come up with is the best thing.

6. Will there be any other songs taken from this EP and made into singles or even video releases?

Not at this stage. If someone would like to film a cowboy dressed in black, riding a white horse in slow motion on a beach and send it to us, I think that’d work well as a video for ‘You in Me’.

7. How do you go about promoting your band and shows?

Currently prototyping a system so that when someone responds as attending on a Facebook event and then on the night the gig rolls around, if they are at home, at the pub or anywhere other than the gig, it will send an electrical charge through their phone and gently shock them until their geolocation matches the venue’s.

8. Can you describe your show, visually and musically for us?

Someone once reviewed our live show and said it was ‘like if Blondie fronted Nine Inch Nails but Nine Inch Nails was just Trent Reznor and Vangelis’. I love that. It’s accurate but in a hilarious way. It also has a Vangelis reference which makes me very happy.

9. Tell us about your next shows and why we should be there.

Our next show is Yours & Owls festival. It’s in Wollongong which is one of our favourite places to play. The people there always great, no bullshit and open minded to new music. You should be there to experience that alone.

10. What else does the band have planned out for this year 2018?

We’ve got some more music to release and will do another Australian tour. After we take some time off to write and sleep for a bit.
