Hamish Anderson Goes Into Details Newest Single, Upcoming Album, and Just Playing Around

Australian singer/songwriter and guitarist Hamish Anderson released a couple of EP's along with a debut album "Trouble" back in 2016. Now that a sophomore album in term's of a follow-up release is expected within the next year, Hamish went on to release a new single titled "No Good" beforehand. He also goes into details about this single, his music in general, and where he wants to play before even more music follows suit.

1. Please go on to introduce yourselves to our readers.

My name is Hamish Anderson. I’m a singer/songwriter and guitarist from Melbourne, Australia.

2. Why did you want to make the music that you do?

I was raised listening to my dad's vinyl collection, which includes a lot of records by The Beatles, The Stones, Cream, Bob Dylan and also a lot of blues like John Lee Hooker and Chuck Berry. That was what really started my love of music and made me want to be a musician. I started playing guitar when I was twelve and have been on the same path since then, really.

3. What about the music, what type of music is it exactly that you call your own creation?

It’s always hard describing the type of music I create--it’s really a mixture of blues, rock & roll, and soul music. That’s the music I was raised on and is still the music that moves me the most. At the end of the day it's rock & roll, because that encompases all those different styles of roots music. It’s a pretty organic thing: just guitars, drums, and keys, like the power trios from the 60s.

4. Where do your influencers come from and why are they so important to you?

The first concert I ever saw was The Who playing in my hometown of Melbourne, Australia. I was 12 years old and had just really started getting into the guitar and music, so it was definitely a life changing concert for me and really confirmed to me that I wanted to pursue being a musician. After that, it was The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, etc. Recently, I’ve been listening to a lot of Fleetwood Mac, from Peter Green through the Buckingham and Nicks era; also to ELO, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Big Star, Elvis, Bo Diddley, Lucinda Williams, T-Rex... But newer releases as well, like the new Jonathan Wilson album, Ray Lamontagne, Dawes, and Alabama Shakes.

5. What are your songs about and what types of topics do they tend to cover?

The main themes I write about are mostly personal things that I’m going through, or things that people that are close to me are going through in their lives. I write a lot about friendships, relationships, being far away from home and on the road a lot. It’s always changing, some of the songs I’ve written recently are a bit more about what is going on with the world in a wider sense and what I see and feel living in the age we live in, good and bad. If I feel really strongly about something, I write about it.

6. Speaking of songs, what have you released so far, that you can disclose?

My debut album "Trouble" came out in 2016, but before that I had released two EP’s. My latest single is called "No Good" and it’s the first track off what will be my sophomore album, coming out early next year!

7. Will any of this content be made into singles and or video releases?

We just shot the music video for "No Good" and I’m really looking forward to releasing it! It’s a simple video, just being a performance by the band, but it has a lot of vibe and energy, with a 70's NYC industrial warehouse style atmosphere. We’ll be doing videos for the rest of the songs we release as singles, too.

8. Can you discuss what the plans are for you guys for this year?

I just toured Europe for the first time, playing festivals in the Netherlands and Germany, which was great! After that, I played a great festival here in the US called BottleRock, in Napa Valley, and have been playing shows around the West coast. For the rest of the year, I’m hoping to release one or two more singles before the album drops next year, and hope to have some more US shows in the Fall.

9. Would you like to say or want to add anything else?

Thanks for the questions! And if you enjoy blues and rock and & roll, please check out my new single "No Good", available here: https://youtu.be/VxGLfAJvil4.
