Alternative blues, rock, band BLOU DAVILLE have some song's readily available for now, with them working on some all new songs as well. They hope to also play some shows in the future, releasing new music, just sharing themselves with any who will listen! The band chats about their music and further plans.
1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.
I originally had something acoustic and personal in mind, but with the help of some friends from the alternative scene in Turin, the project quickly expanded. Some suggested using double bass, others imagined two voices, like a Lanegan/Campbell style. That’s how we started. Now, after two vinyl albums and two EP's, it’s been 11 years, and we’re still trying to take small steps in the world of alternative music.
2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?
People who listened to our sound said it felt like something from a Tarantino or Rodriguez soundtrack. That bluesy feel and the reverb of guitars reminded us of the old blues stories about the devil. We played with the sound of “Blue Devil” and shaped it into “Blou Daville”, using the initials of the original band members.
3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?
We’re all from Turin, in Northern Italy. In the ’80s and ’90s, many different bands helped build a diverse music scene here. Now I would recommend Damnation, a new thrash band, and Tom Newton, a young guy with blues in his veins.
4. How would you describe your style?
An alternative blues, shaken with rock and lounge music.
5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?
We like to create imaginary worlds. I’d like anyone listening to our music to feel like they’re inside a noir or pulp movie scene.
6. Do you have any new music in the works?
We’re working on several songs — some more bluesy, others more groovy. We’ll decide on a strategy together with our label and management.
7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?
Live shows is what we love the most. With the help of Black Flamingo agency, we hope to start performing more regularly again.
8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?
We plan to release new singles in the next few months and play as much as we can. We want to share our music and world beyond Italy, thanks to interviews like this. We’d love to organize some shows around Europe.
9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?
Thanks to Blue Mama Records and Believe Distribution, we’re on all major digital platforms. But what we love the most is meeting people at our shows. You can find all our band merch at our shows too.
10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?
I hope they’re love the warm and seductive atmosphere, and that they feel like listening to us again. It’s always a gift when someone listen to our songs over and over.
