Norwegian metal act Dimmu Borgir have been around for over thirty years, having dealt with numerous changes to their line-up over the years, that never stopped them from moving onward, releasing material including most recent tenth album "Grand Serpent Rising". With that release the band decided to go on road playing in the U.S. Playing nine dates, this being their first time in a long time as of 2018 since last playing in the U.S.
With that, this will have been my third time seeing this band live, the first being in 2007 the year I had graduated high school, with then being the following year in 2008 and now close to twenty years later in 2026! The band would conclude the tour in Los Angeles, California on Sunday August 23, 2026, at The Novo Theater in Downtown Los Angeles.
Along this trek would be some mishaps as the bill would have Dimmu Borgir, Hulder, Suffocation on some dates and Hypocrispy filling in but due to some visa issues for Hypocrispy they had to drop off this run. Come this evening's show would be opener's out of Washington State Hulder playing a solid 45-minute set playing material off their latest albums including most recent being "Verbolgen". The band is made up of two members with back up members filling in for the live performances. Their set was very captivating and fulfilling, the vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist named after the band's namesake Hulder, did quite the job, having brutal growls that were astounding. Instrumentally was done very well, kept the energy of the music ever flowing, it just felt so and made the vibe stand out so much. They were an act that kept you locked on and invested and are surely one to check out live once if not at least listen to.

Following them would be headliners Dimmu Borgir, who start off at close to 9PM playing consistently until roughly 10:30PM, a solid set ranging from old to new, a lot of fans within the crowd enjoying the atmosphere. Such songs included "Mourning Palace", "Reptile", and crowd favorite "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse". Other tracks played included "The Serpentine Offering", "As Seen in the Unseen", "Gateways", "Kings of Carnival Creation", among many others. The set list was about 13-15 songs, some of which were also solo's such as a drum solo and guitar solo done extremely well.
DIMMU BORGIR LIVE PHOTOS:
All in all; Dimmu Borgir even after all of these years of one not seeing them for so long, and two still being a fan, they still got that mentality to withhold the audience and entertain, never missing a beat or vocal cord, but grip you further that it holds forevermore.
