Schrödinger's dog JRock Idol's has a Discussion with Us About Music, Playing Shows, and Being the Best Idols Possible!

JRock idol group Schrödinger's dog takes EDM and rock music to create who they have become. With that, they have released numerous singles, albums, EPs, music videos, with a whole lot more in-store.  They hope to head overseas to the U.S., but have plans to play shows, nonetheless. This idol group goes into discussion about how and why they are the one to stand out!

1. Please tell us is this an idol band, group, project, what would you call it?

We are a Japanese rock idol group!

We usually perform as an idol group, but several times a year, for major one-man shows and band events, we also perform with a live band as a full band set.

We don’t want to be just an idol group—we aim to be artists. That’s why we personally prefer to call ourselves a rock group. But for everyone else, it’s totally fine to simply think of us as a Japanese rock idol group!

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name Schrödinger's dog? Who is the “dog”? Is it a real dog? Or does it have nothing to do with a dog at all?

Schrödinger’s dog is a group built around themes of quantum mechanics and philosophy.

The name is actually a word we created by combining “Schrödinger’s cat” and “Pavlov’s dog.”

So unfortunately, there isn’t an actual dog hiding somewhere behind the name!

3. Where are you based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local acts you could recommend?

We are based in Tokyo and primarily perform throughout Japan, but we also have many shows in Nagoya and Osaka. Outside Japan, Taiwan is currently the country where we have performed the most.

In Japan right now, Japanese rock—often called “J-rock” or “邦ロック (Hōrock)”—is very popular. Our music, however, has a particularly strong EDM influence, so our sound might be somewhat unusual compared to a lot of what is currently popular.

As for recommendations, that’s a difficult question… so I’ll just say we recommend ourselves! lol

4. How would you describe your style?

Our concept is EDM ROCK.

Some of the artists who have influenced and inspired us are Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas and PassCode.

We think they’re incredibly cool, and we really look up to them.

5. What have you released so far as far as EPs, LPs, singles, music videos? What can someone expect from your works?

This is our sixth year as a group, and so far, we have released singles, albums, EPs, and music videos. You can find our music on major streaming platforms and YouTube, so we’d be very happy if you gave us a listen!

Especially over the past few years, our sound has become much more distinctive and easier to recognize. We create powerful music where heavily electronic EDM sounds coexist with deep, heavy low-end, while many of our songs take a progressive approach, constantly changing their arrangements, rhythms, and musical developments.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

We’ve actually just released a new EP, but we’ve already started working on our next project for this winter!

We came up with another really interesting concept, so please look forward to it!

7. As far as shows and touring, what is on the agenda? Any hope to come to the U.S.A.?

We’ve just started preparing for our winter one-man show.

Looking ahead to next year, however, we want to become much more active internationally. We’re currently thinking seriously about how we can introduce ourselves and our music to people around the world. Performing in the United States would honestly be a dream for us.

We’re seriously thinking about how we can get people in America to discover Schrödinger’s dog and our music and hopefully reach the point where we can receive offers to perform there.

So, if anyone reading this has an opportunity for us, we would absolutely love to hear from you!

8. What else do you have planned for the rest of this year?

As we prepare for our winter one-man show, we’re currently working with our manipulator to revisit and refine our sound.

At the same time, we’re giving the members stage-performance training to help them further develop their skills and quality as rock artists.

9. Where can we find you online, listen to your music, and where can we buy your merch?

You can find us pretty much everywhere!

X, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, Facebook—we’re on all of them.

Our music is distributed through TuneCore to all major music streaming platforms, so please search for Schrödinger’s dog and give us a listen!

10. What is it about you that makes you stand out above all the rest? Why should people check you out?

First of all, our members are cute. I can proudly say that! 😂 But the real selling point is that these incredibly cute girls are performing seriously cool, hard-hitting rock music.

We want people who love Japanese idol culture and anime culture, but also love rock music, to discover us and feel like our music brings those two worlds together in a way they can really enjoy.

If you like Japanese idols + anime culture + rock + EDM, we think Schrödinger’s dog might be exactly what you’re looking for.

So please, give us a listen and see for yourself!
