As Paradise Falls' Danny Discloses the Captive to the Creation of the Digital Ritual

Australian metal outfit As Paradise Falls, hit the scene running when their style of metal came above the masses. This causing the band to release material on and off, with current progress of new music in the works. In the mean time though, the band has recently released a new single "Captive to the Creation", off their latest offering "Digital Ritual", that has been making a lot of buzz as of late. Guitarist Danny Kenneally talks about said single, the new music in process, and what is ahead for them as a whole.

1. First of all, please introduce your band and band members to our readers.

Danny: Hey this is Danny Kenneally from As Paradise Falls, I play guitar in the band and we got Shaun Coar on vocals, Jon Messer on bass, Jimmy Upson on guitar and Christian Rady on drums.

2. So why go with a name like As Paradise Falls? Does the name have a meaning behind it?

Danny: We chose the name a long time ago, if my memory serves me right, the origin of the name stems from a game. So there isn't too much of a meaning behind the name itself, more of a nod to the gaming that each member likes to do from time to time.

3. Can you please tell us about the concept and lyrical themes of your material?

Danny: The concept of this album as a whole is how we, as people in the modern western world, are living an almost symbiotic relationship with digital technology. For some, it's the first thing we see when we wake up in the morning and the last thing we see when we go to sleep. Digital technology has immense benefits, especially with the massive progress it has made in the last decade alone. But the question is - are all the changes for the better?  Through the songs on Digital Ritual, we explore parts of us we may have left behind and some dark things we have created to fill the void in this technology-ridden world.

4. Tell us about your favorite bands, from whom you gain inspiration. Are you having any favorite artist/band that has emerged from metal/rock soil?

Danny: The bands we listen to and take inspiration from vastly range throughout the band. For this album we tried to take inspiration from many different bands we love to feed that all into a bunch of songs and see where we end up. So some songs have a very heavy Meshuggah/Thy Art Is Murder influence to them and others have a Tesseract/Northlane feel. Overall we take inspiration from so many bands; Alice In Chains, Architects, Chelsea Grin and a whole heap more.

5. Is there any special reason for choosing your music conception?

Danny: The concept of the lyrics came from Shaun as he was writing them for the album. We all inquired as to what concept was coming from his lyrics and the whole Digital theme appeared and it just worked. Its a very relevant subject at this point in time and I believe if you take the time to listen/read Shauns lyrics, you can take a whole lot from them and benefit from his message.

We also had a concept for our music and for the album as a whole. We wanted to explore the avenue of exploiting multiple genres throughout the ‘Metal’ category and sub categories. We wanted to try and combine the aspects of each that we love and turn them into 1 song or a handful of songs and not limit ourselves to 1 specific sound.

6. "Captive to the Creation" was made as a single turned video recently, tell me why this was chosen as such?

Danny: Captive is a song that we all love so so much. Its relentless, chaotic and I believe it represents the bands sound as a whole really well. We shot the video at our hometown album launch show in Brisbane and it was beautiful choas as you can see in the video. I believe anyone that enjoys Metal will love this track and wont be able to listen to it without tapping their foot or banging their head, yes, that is a challenge.

7. What are the plans for new music, have anything in the works?

Danny: We have been working away quietly around our shows and preparing new music. We’ve got about 6 songs that we’re liking and a bunch more in the works. There's constant energy and drive to create between us all so I'm very excited for our next studio session.

8. When can we expect to hear some all new music coming from you guys?

Danny: Well I don't really want to set a date, but right now we’ve got a timeline and schedule which does include going back to the studio for album number 2 in the near future.

9. What else do you have on the horizon in terms of plans for the next year or so?

Danny: We’ve been discussing alot as a band and we feel the need to play some more shows whilst we finish off this writing we’re doing so that's probably on the cards next.

10. Thanks a lot for your time! It s really nice to know more about you. Would you like to say anything to your fans and our readers?

Danny: Thanks for having me! I just wanna take this opportunity to thank every single person that has taken the time to listen to any of our music or watch any of our videos. An extra special thank you to all of you awesome fans that keep supporting us throughout our musical journey, you guys keep us focused and grateful for everything.
