Project Skeleton Discusses Local Show Plans, New Music in the Works for All Sorts of Projects!

Gothic rockabilly artist PROJECT SKELETON has taken his music style around, not only grasping the goth, rockabilly style, but going into the country aspect with his own take of creating "dark country", with some 80's style inspiration as well. He has gone on to release an EP release titled "Eternal", with all new music in the works for this project, as many other projects he has been involved in. He has some shows coming up, and plans to release more music and keep busy! Check out the discussion he had with me below.

1. Please tell us about the history of you as an artist and why get into music.

Well to make a long story short… I’ve always been into music since I was a child. First was 50’s rock and roll, then alternative new wave bands in the 80’s, punk rock, goth/postpunk and psychobilly.

I’m a self taught guitar player. It was learning by playing along with songs I loved. I also was really into writing poetry and when I got better at playing my guitar it felt natural to song-write. Actually, my parents bought a guitar for my older sibling and he never played it, so I picked it up and never stopped playing.

It was an outlet from being a frustrated teenager I guess and it didn’t help by being one of the few punks in the small town I lived in, Modesto, CA.

From almost daily insults and threats, I didn’t want to be like everyone else even more. I had my close friends and music. That was in the 1980’s, so you could imagine how tough it was back then.

2. What’s the origin of the name?

Project Skeleton has this meaning to me by having been the main songwriter for all my projects, Rezurex and Neon Kross, was because I’m the backbone of the band. I thought it was fitting for an unplugged acoustic band, name

We started during the pandemic by having so much time at home I needed to make the best of my time and write music. When restrictions were lifted and you had to wear masks still in public places and show proof of vaccination to enter venues, we had our first show.

3. Where are you based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local acts you could recommend?

We are based in Los Angeles and I live in Hollywood. The music scene here of course changed over the years but I get surprised sometimes when I hear a newer good band. I do travel a lot and perform here in the USA and other countries, including Mexico, Germany, France, Italy and Spain so far with this project.

4. How would you describe your style?

That’s a difficult question because what I think is usually different from another person’s opinion haha. I would say. Goth, Rockabilly, Dark Country with some 1980’s style influences like Depeche Mode, The Cure and Morrissey. Which some people have told me I sound like Morrissey. Maybe a little I think. I sound like me!

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

I released on Bandcamp and other streaming platforms the EP called, Eternal. This was a more experimental project for me. That one is more of a dark alternative style, hard to explain. The single called, “Standing in the Shadows” is featured on that album and a music video. Also, I had a Mariachi band back me up on one song called, “Dance in the Moonlight”. Could be the first Mariachi Goth song?? And a Depeche Mode cover called, “Stripped“.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes I do! I’m currently preparing to record all new albums for all my projects.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

At the moment I’m just sticking around in SoCal and a few out of town shows in and near California. Next one is in Long Beach Aug 23rd at Secret Island. Free show!

8. What plans do you have for the future as far as music?

Just keep playing as I normally do. Like I mentioned, I’d like to concentrate on recording the new material. If you follow me on TikTok, I like to test out new songs there and some fun cover songs.

9. Where can we listen to your music and where can we buy your stuff?

Bandcamp and all other streaming services. I only have T-shirts available at my shows. I’m not good with online stores at the moment.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

Well, it comes from the heart and you can hear that if you listen to the EP.  I suggest they catch a full live show to get the best experience from my originals and fun covers I do. I get compliments from my cover from Siouxie and Banshees, “Cities in Dust” and “Mad World” by Tears for Fears.
