The Downcast Talks of New EP and Single!

Pop punk band THE DOWNCAST have their debut EP along with a couple of single's and another EP in the works. Much more is talked about, including word about the all new EP and single!

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The Downcast started in 2018 with a hope, a prayer, and a hell of a lot of elbow grease. We've been lucky enough to work with some amazing people to bring our music to life through recording and live shows.

We're a 4 piece band:

Matt - guitar/vocals

Leo - guitar

Arthur - bass/vocals

Julien - drums

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I wish this was a better story….We just thought of a word we liked and stuck "The" on the front of it. Since "The Nirvanas" sounded a little derivative, we landed on "The Downcast". "The" bands weren't cool for a long time, but we're bringing it back!

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We're based out of beautiful (currently cold) Toronto, Canada.  The music scene here is great, especially for our genre. Not that being a new local band isn't tough, but we definitely appreciate the fact that there are a lot of opportunities here compared to other cities in North America.

Here are some local bands we would recommend:

Rival Town - @rivaltownband

Flight 97 - @flight97official

Gurth - @gurthagram

4. How would you describe your style?

We typically get categorized in the pop punk genre, and we don't disagree! I like to think we add some flare to it with modern metal influences in our guitar work.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

Our debut EP called "Trouble at The Surfcomber" came out in 2018, we've released 2 singles in 2019, and have our Sophomore EP in the works! The first single from this new release is due in February of this year!

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Yes! The first single from our Sophomore EP will be released in February of 2021!

This will be our second body of work produced by Alan Day of Four Year Strong. It's the best thing we've ever done and we're super excited to get it out to the world.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

With COVID, we can't make any plans. But we miss it dearly. As soon as we can, we will be planning a Canadian tour.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our plans simply consist of making the best music we possibly can, and playing it to people who want to hear it. That's all we have done thus far and it's been a blast.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

Our music is available on every major streaming site! We don't have a merch store but hit us up on Instagram @thedowncastto if you want a shirt. We'll set you up!

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That there is good music out there that doesn't come from a recognized record label. When I was younger, I loved finding underground bands. I felt like when I found them, they were just for me. We can be just for you. Love you too.
