Sickrecy's Discussion of Formation, Music, and Future!

Grindcore band SICKRECY started in 2020, during the pandemic, picked from various members and other bands those members were a part of at the time. Over that said since, five years in fact, the band has gone on to release their debut EP, with a split release and two more split releases coming soon! The band's discussion of all of this is below.

1. Please tell us about the history of your band and its members.

The band was first started in 2020 as a side project by me (Martin) as an attempt to create something that reminded me of the Mentally murdered EP by Napalm Death. In my mind that is still the best extreme record with a perfect blend between grind, crust punk and death metal.  After the release of our First World Anxiety EP in 2021 it quickly evolved into a ``real´´band but the lineup wasn’t complete until late 2022 when Tobbe and Isac joined the band. Me (drums) and Marcus (git) came from the crustpunk/death metal band World in Ruins which were on a hiatus, Adde (vox) has the drum and vocal duties in General Surgery and Birdflesh. Those are still his first priority and very much alive . Tobbe (Git) is an old friend of Addes and has been in the band Jigsore Terror together with him whilst Isac (bass) has played in numerous bands and projects in different genres in the past.

2. What’s the origin of the band’s name?

I had come up with the name before i even started to write songs for Sickrecy. It’s a wordplay where sick and secrecy was put together, which came from me watching a documentary about the secrecy and cover ups in governments and such.

3. Where is the band based out of and what is your music scene like there? Are there any local bands you could recommend?

We are based in the south of Sweden but we all live in different cities therefor we don’t rehearse that much. Everyone is forced to practicing their stuff at home. There’s a lot  of people listening to extreme music like crust punk, grindcore, death and thrash around here and a lot of bands but to name a few… The Arson Project, Järnbörd, Hatchened, Crawl, Vilt. There’s not that many small club shows any longer. Which is very sad. Most small venues, music associations with rehearsal spaces and a small stage are gone now and this right winged government we have now doesn’t care for alternative expressions and don’t want to fund things like theatre, music, education and other things that may cause people to oppose their beliefs.

4. How would you describe your style?

Grindcore! Inspired by the early nineties extreme music underground.

5. What have you released so far and what can someone expect from your works?

We have released one 6 track EP - First world anxiety on CD, one album - Salvation through tyranny on Lp and CD, one split album with Barren on LP and CD and two split singles with SlothPhantomMoth and Distaste on 7inch vinyl. You can expect fierce, aggressive music with a good hook and lyrics that mean something.

6. Do you have any new music in the works?

Our split 7 inch vinyl with Distaste has just been released and we have 2 more split 7 inches coming out this year. Other than that we are working on new songs for our next album.

7. How about playing shows and touring, have anything planned out?

Since Adde has so much to do with General Surgery and Birdflesh we can’t do any touring but we have a couple of shows coming up later this year.

8. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

To play more live and to finish the songs for our second album so it can be released in 2026.

9. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

We are on all streaming platforms so you can’t miss us. If you want to buy any of our stuff just check us out on Bandcamp or write a mail to sickrecyband@gmail.com  and we will sort it out.

10. What is it you’d like a listener to remember the most when hearing your music for the first time?

That we play music that matters. - Cheers and thanks/Martin
