Caliban’s Andy Dörner Happy Go Lucky Interview

German metallers Caliban have been around for 15 years tops having dished out seven albums with an eighth on the horizon entitled "I Am Nemesis" these guys are surely not going to be forgotten anytime soon. Frontman vocalist Andy Dörner caught up with me to discuss the band's upcoming release, how the current tour out in Europe is going, and what else these guys have up their sleeves between now and the upcoming months.

1. Caliban has been around for 15 years can you believe that?

Andy: I never could imagine something like that when we started making music.

2. You guys have got a total of eight albums under your belts, how does that make you feel?

Andy: It makes us happy of course and a little bit proud...a big thanks to everyone who has bought our records we appreciate it. : )

3. How has the band’s sound evolved from Say Hello to Tragedy to I Am Nemesis?

Andy: The sound is more powerful, aggressive, modern and innovative then before...we used a lot of new effects and tried to combine different music styles.

4. On this new album you don't just have one but two guest vocalists from Heaven Shall Burn and Suicide Silence why them?

Andy: We have even more, we have the guys from As Blood Runs Black for the group shouts and we have Christoph Koterzina who did background vocals and full chorus for "Broadcast To Damnation"...We started a poll for "We Are The Many", and asked our friends what guest singers they like to hear on "I Am Nemesis" and Marcus and Mitch were the most voted.

5. Was your songwriting and recording process any different than usual for this CD?

Andy: It was way longer than before, it took us about 10 months to write and produce the record. We tried new sounds and techniques, music wise and singing wise.

6. What inspired the album title? Is it a concept album?

Andy: The whole record in a few words, that’s the title and yes, it’s a concept album, it’s the next step after "Say Hello To Tragedy" the record is about things that are not right in our world, about things that piss us off, about our corrupt and greedy society.

7. What are your expectations for the CD?

Andy: We hope that our fans will like the record as much as we do.

8. You’re currently out on the Get Infested Tour in Europe how is that going for everybody?

Andy: Great so far!!!! The German shows were just amazing and Scandinavia was good, too it’s always a little bit harder in Scandinavia, but like I said, the shows were great!!!!

9. When will you be making your way to the states?

Andy: We are waiting for a good offer, but I’m looking forward to it. It´s about time to tour the states again!

10. What are your favorite things about touring in both places?

Andy: I like almost any tour we have, so I don’t have any favorite place.

11. What are the largest and smallest crowds you've played in front of?

Andy: The smallest was about 10 (years ago) and the biggest crowed was about 450,000 people.

12. Back in December of last year you released a music video for the song "Memorial" are there anymore videos in store?

Andy: We will put out another video for "I Am Nemesis", but I can’t tell you more at the moment, sorry ;)

13. Anything else you’d like to say or promote?

Andy: Thanks for your time and interest!!! We hope you like the new record and will keep in touch!!!! Don’t forget to get your copy of “I Am Nemesis" and check our websites for more info´s and tour dates!!!! Keep it real, bye.
