Wythersake Discusses A Whole Lotta Music to Come Forth Soon!

Melodic metal brutality WYTHERSAKE released their debut album not that long ago, with them releasing some singles, then going on to write and record what would be their sophomore album expected out this spring! But that's not all, in face, they have already written material and demoed it as well for likely a third album! So a lot of material to go around, with some shows lining up here or there as well. The band discusses all of this music business with us below.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it something you planned, or did it come to you organically?

The name "Wythersake" emerged almost as a revelation. I had been waiting for something that would resonate with the essence of the band—something that would encapsulate the themes woven through our music and lyrics. "Wythersake" is derived from an archaic European term that signifies "Apostate" or "Adversary." It reflects a rejection of conventional beliefs and embraces the notion of rebellion and defiance. The alternate spelling we’ve adopted, "Wythersake," gives it more of a mystical quality - to me personally at least.

2. Why did you choose to play this genre?

It wasn’t so much a conscious decision as it was a natural alignment of creativity.  It allows me to express the full spectrum of my thoughts.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we’ve all been connected somehow long before Wythersake came into being. We come from the same city, and have a shared history from previous projects performing together.

4. Where is the band based out of, and what is the local music scene like? Are there any local bands you’d recommend?

We’re based in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. Another band that stands out and is doing something truly unique are our brothers in “Skaldr” (Avantgarde Music) Their recent album is something we highly recommend.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I find inspiration in the world around me—the complexities of life, my personal experiences, and the insights I gain through introspection. I’m constantly observing, and in many ways, it’s through music that I make sense of those observations. I do not always find fulfillment or joy in things, but through songwriting, I can channel my emotions and thoughts into something tangible and meaningful.

6. What are your songs about? (What specific themes do they cover?)

The themes in our music are deeply philosophical and introspective. I explore concepts like Theosophy, which examines the hidden truths of the universe; rebellion, in the face of established structures and dogmas; irreverence toward conventional ideals; and gnosis—the pursuit of knowledge that transcends the material world.

7. Do you write your own songs? (Discuss the songwriting process in detail.)

Yes, all music is written and produced by Wythersake. My process begins with crafting the music, which usually comes together quickly—I’ll have a demo within a day. Once the instrumental draft is in place, I listen to it repeatedly, until the words begin to form. Lyrics are written in my lyrics journal or in my phone’s notes app. From there, I demo the vocals, and if time permits, I can complete the full song within 48 hours. I can usually “feel” that I have a song ready to go before even sitting down in my studio to create it sonically.

8. What have you released so far, and what can someone expect from your works?

Our debut album Antiquity (2021) was our Full Length introduction to the world, preceded by several singles released between 2018 and 2020. Our sophomore album, At War With Your Divinity, will be released worldwide on March 21, 2025 (Scarlet records). Anyone who listens can expect a musical journey that blends profound thematic exploration with bold, atmospheric soundscapes.

9. Do you have any new music in the works?

In addition to the upcoming album, we’ve already written and demoed material for our third album. I never rest.

10. Do you have any plans for shows or touring?

We will be playing select shows, if everything aligns properly. Our band members no longer all live in the same state, so we must coordinate in a way that makes sense logistically. That being said, if the right opportunity arises, we will be ready to share our music live with our fans.

11. What plans do you have for the future as a band?

Our immediate focus is on promoting At War With Your Divinity, which includes releasing more music videos to accompany the album. We’ll do what we can to get the album in front of listeners, and then we will dive straight into recording our third album, with plans to have it ready within the next year.

12. Where can we listen to your band and where can we buy your stuff?

You can explore our music and stay updated on everything Wythersake through our website: www.wythersake.com. Thank you for your time and support.
